One of Stan Ashleigh's schemes accidentally causes a widespread power cut in the hospital, interrupting operations, and trapping Anton Meyer in a service lift with James Campbell, who is becoming increasingly distraught over the death of his daughter, for which he holds the hospital staff responsible, despite Meyer's assurances and the conclusions of the in-house investigation. Victoria Merrick's murderer is identified.

Owen Davis confronts Alistair Taylor about his growing relationship with Chrissie Williams, but he claims nothing is going on. A young woman is brought in suffering from advanced liver disease. A woman prisoner is also on the ward, who, when she is fully diagnosed, wants to do something that Ric Griffin is sure will give the medical ethics board a tough decision.

On Darwin Ward, a blind man regains his sight after a relatively minor procedure on his lungs, and a cantankerous young homeless man causes problems for Simon Shaughnessy on his first day at work at Holby City, assisting Stan Ashleigh. A heart patient whose son appears not to want the burden of caring for him prompts a spat between Alex Adams & Samantha Kennedy, leading them to explore their personal experiences of caring for their fathers.
Chrissie Williams wakes up with Alistair Taylor in the Taylors' bed. Steve Waring's son is increasingly upset over his mother's death, and skips school to binge drink at home, causing Steve to have a stressful time sorting him out. On the wards, a young man is admitted with acute pancreatitis, but Tash Bandara's sympathy is more limited than the man's father's. A long-distance lorry-driver patient with a heart problem is visited by two women who each think that she is his wife. Marija has to have it pointed out to her than Danny actually fancies her.
Just before Christmas on Keller Ward, David Thomas, a young rugby player is brought in having sustained a bad leg fracture. Sandy Harper takes a fancy to him and stays late to decorate his bedside with extra tinsel. He dies during the night from complications from an unsuspected head injury. Chrissie Williams has to tell Alistair Taylor repeatedly that their affair is over. Janice Taylor finds out that she is pregnant again, but finds Chrissie's badge under the marital bed and sees husband Alistair behaving suspiciously with Chrissie. She confronts him, but he denies it sufficiently convincingly.
On New Year's Eve, Sophie, an ex-girlfriend of Alex Adams, arrives at Holby City, bringing with her a daughter he was completely unaware of. A strong-willed 77-year old, Annie Hackett, coerces Ric Griffin into doing an operation to remove part of her colon, against his advice. Simon Shaughnessy gets very drunk while still on duty, and has to be escorted off the premises by his family. Kath Shaughnessy's suspicions about Chrissie Williams and Alistair Taylor are as good as confirmed. Alex arranges to spend the evening with Samantha Kennedy, and she surreptitiously plies him with more drinks than he was wanting. He leaves temporarily to finish discussions with Sophie, but is then pressured into attending a road traffic accident. While driving back to rejoin Samantha, a child runs out in front of his car too late for him to avoid. He is then given a routine breathalyser on the spot.
Jamie, the child that Alex Adams knocked down, is starting to recover in Otter Ward when he suddenly worsens, needing an urgent operation, but dies in theatre. Blood tests confirm the positive breathalyser, and Alex is charged with drink-driving. Samantha Kennedy becomes increasingly remorseful that she was the one at fault, but still can't bring herself to confess to him or anyone. Dr Gupta's wife gives birth by Caesarian to their fourth child, and first son, in the Holby maternity unit, but almost at the cost of her life. Alistair Taylor prepares to leave his wife for Chrissie Williams, though she continues to consistently reject him. He and Owen Davis end up brawling in the car park, after Owen intervenes to stop Alistair hassling Chrissie. Janice sees them, and finally realises what has been happening.
Ric's Daughter shows up at Holby to ask for money and makes a date with Liam in the meantime, however he promptly cancells on her when he finds out whose daughter she is.
Marija has to make the desicion of going away with her first husband, Goran, or staying with Danny. Sam Kennedy confesses to Chrissie that she got Alex drunk and after seeing his mother's black eye, Danny beats up his father in the car park.
As Owen Davis discovers that his ex-wife is taking his daughter away to live in Sydney, Danny tries to persuade his mother to leave his father.

Samantha Kennedy vows that she's off men for ever. A young woman with learning difficulties, Chloe Edwards, is in the maternity ward for complications with her pregnancy, and her mother is concerned. Stan Ashleigh's wife collapses in the hospital car park while delivering him to work, and she is admitted to one of the wards for tests and treatment.
Ben invites his parents to dinner with the intention of telling them that he is a homosexual.
Ric Griffin's day goes from bad to worse when Samantha accidentally bumps into his car in the car park and his daughter shows up again asking for more money. He says no and makes her get a job as Owen's new PA.
When Tash's girlfriend shows up at work for a coffee, Tash puts her hand in her bag and gets pricked by a needle. Tash fears for her life and future when she learns that her girlfriend has HIV and Tash might have contracted it. Kath gets into another arguament with Simon which leads to him abusing her worse than ever before and her being admitted to Holby and in need of an operation on her spleen.
As Danny and Father Michael try to set up a new flat for Kath, Steve trys to start a relationship with Lisa but changes his mind.
Tash Bandara finaly gets her HIV results and she is negative.
Philippa Calcutt, a woman with an advanced intestinal cancer, is visited by both a friend from church and her sister, who fears the friend is having an undue influence on her. On the children's ward is an 8-month-pregnant 15-year-old girl with an overbearing mother and a young boyfriend, Dean Flynn - Steve Waring's attempts at advice don't help smooth things for any of them. Samantha Kennedy holds a joint 30th birthday and flat-warming party, even summoning up the courage to invite Alex Adams, who declines. He in fact meets up with Jess Griffin, not knowing who she is, and awkwardly ends up at the party anyway. There, Steve gets into a brawl with an old school-friend Craig Campbell, resulting in a serious injury, and the calling of an ambulance and the police, who search Ric Griffin and find his considerable stash.
The morning after the party, Ric Griffin is released from police custody, and, after an unofficial reprimand from Anton Meyer, reconsiders his application for a lucrative administrative job at the nearby Hadlington private hospital. Janice Taylor is suffering from dizziness, which Owen Davis deduces is anemia, but also the stress of the impending divorce. Teenager Oliver Gordon is in for a check after a fall at home, when Steve Waring finds a lump in his neck. It is an anxious time for his mother, until Ric can do a biopsy. American cardiac surgeon Alan Fletcher returns, with his wife, who is in the final stages of rejecting her transplanted heart. They beg Anton Meyer to use an experimental artificial heart pump to save her life.
A case of the Norwak virus is discovered on Darwin Ward, but Ric Griffin decides to try to stay open and contain the outbreak. At the flat, Liam is disturbed by noise from next door, and going round to complain, finds an unconscious, bleeding woman in the open doorway. A man with a bat ties Liam up, but he is released when the woman comes round. In tackling the man to prevent him harming his son, Liam is badly injured in a fall.
Liam comes round from his operation, and is in pain. It is then discovered he is suffering from Peritonitis and was rished back into theatre. He then finds that he is paralysed from the waist down.
As Liam finds it hard to accept that he will never walk again, Sandy tries to comfort him.
A decision must be made whether a young woman or a boy with down syndrome will recieve a heart that has become available.
Liam returns to find his life turned upside down. A young mother learns that her unborn child is terminally ill and must decide whether to abort the pregnancy. Alex is thrown by the news that Jess is pregnant with his child.
Kath meets up with Fr Michael and makes it clear that she regrets their moment of passion. Devastated, he attempts to take his own life. Meanwhile, Alex pleads with Jess to think about the future and their baby.
Jess gives Alex several opportunities to talk her out of the termination, but he accepts none of them, and Jess goes ahead with the procedure. Meanwhile, her father Ric is busy trying to organise his birthday drinks, oblivious to his daughter's predicament.
Owen has to decide whether the time is right to move back in with Laura, while he struggles to support a prisoner who could be separated from her newly born baby. An old flame of Liam's returns, and he finds himself questioning whether he has a future at Holby General.
Owen Davis is tempted by Chrissie Williams's advances, and the two are soon brought together by a woman forced to re-evaluate her relationship because of deteriorating health. Keri McGrath's past comes back to haunt her when her man-eating mother turns up. Holby City gets sexy when the eligible men are auctioned off for charity.
Mubbs puts a baby's life at risk and endangers his career. The reappearance of an old girlfriend forces Tash to re-evaluate her priorities.
Mary Harrow, a successful novelist who needs two operations, tests the loyalties of Darwin Ward's junior doctors to their senior colleagues. Sam Kennedy's subsequent need to prove her feelings for Ric Griffin to him culminates in an unusual request. Mubbs Hussain gives Keri McGrath the date she won at the auction, but when they get back home, her mother Pam arrives and Mubbs feels awkward in the light of what they had been doing earlier. Parents Kelvin & Marcia Lyme have their desire to adopt a child tested when he is diagnosed with sickle-cell anemia. Owen Davis visits Chrissie Williams at home to tell her he's getting back with his wife, but then proceeds to jeopardise it.
Registrar Diane Lloyd, an old girlfriend of Ric Griffin's, joins the team on Keller Ward, where preparations are nearing completion for Sam Kennedy's wedding to Ric. Owen Davis is getting more involved with Chrissy Williams. Alex Adams takes up the invitation to join the poorly-attended stag night, and Diane suggests moving to the casino next door, where Ric wagers the £20 000 cheque that Sam is giving him to clear his debts. A young man, Gary Sullivan, is admitted to Keller with abdominal pains, which Ric finds is advanced cancer, and is put in a moral dilemma when the patient asks him to disguise the fact that it predates his taking out a large life insurance policy in favor of his fiancée. Maternity deals with a young mother-to-be who is diagnosed with herpes, and the consequences for her relationship with the father.
Sam Kennedy & Ric Griffin's wedding day dawns, and the final preparations are in hand. But Alex Adams is in a quandary about whether to tell Sam what Ric has done with her money, and what his true feelings for her are. Ric can't summon up the courage to tell Sam, and is beginning to have doubts about the wedding. Sam realises that she wants Alex to rescue her from her situation, but nevertheless goes to the Register Office. Gary Sullivan is found to be in a much worse condition that thought, and he has to find the courage to tell his fiancée the truth, while she has something to tell him; they decide to get married on the ward.
Alistair Taylor is back at Holby on another temporary assignment, and proposes divorce to Janice who is nearing the end of her pregnancy. On the day after the events of the wedding day, Sam Kennedy confronts Alex Adams about their relationship. Keri McGrath makes a shocking discovery when she walks in on a meeting between her mother and Mubbs Hussein. A woman is brought in after collapsing in the street from a heart condition; her husband, who hasn't seen her for a year, is very keen to see her, and even more so when Alex lets slip that she has recently had a baby. A road traffic accident brings in an injured woman, Liv Woods, and her daughter, Natalie, who is pronounced brain dead; her husband is already there having brought in their other daughter who needs a kidney transplant. Janice has to persuade them to let Natalie be a transplant donor.
Owen Davis's day goes from bad to worse. Sandy Harper is less than pleased when Danny Shaughnessy asks Lisa Fox to move into their flat.
A dying child needs a risky operation in order to survive. However, Sam does not have faith in Meyer's ability to carry out the procedure as he performed it before a little girl died. She voices her concerns to the child's parents who then discharge their son from the hospital. The boy returns in a critical condition. Meanwhile, Janice is thrown into turmoil when her unborn baby is in danger. And Chrissie is forced to care for Owen's runaway child.

This is all due to the brother's father liking the younger and (slightly) healthier brother. The changover takes too long and the organs are taken to another hospital. In a fit of rage Tom damages the theatre and blames his problems on his father. Terry Fox and Kath Shaughnessy have to get married in hospital as Terry is too ill To go to the Registry Office. Ric Griffin also has to tell terry that he only has weeks to live.

But the strain of having another of his patients die prior to the operation, and having to do the operation while being watched by a group of seinior medics, is too much to handle, and he turns to the vodka (again). Ed Keating finds Tom drunk and covers-up for Tom again, but later Ed gives Tom an ultimatum. The operation is a success and the party of medics leave happily.
Tom continues his drinking habits despite Ed's pleas. Tom is later called into theatre for an emergancy operation where he collapses from severe intestinal bleeding. When Ric discovers how bad the condition of Tom's liver is, Tom's life and career are in Ric's hands. Meanwhile, Owen desperately tries to find a best man for his wedding and ask Ed.

Tony Vincent spends much of the episode looking for his boyfriend (Ben Saunders) and manages to get cover at work so he can join him later for celebration Drink. However Ben meets up with Greg Townsend, the paramedic from the ambulance and they go off together for a bit. Tony arrives after this has finished so it appears Ben is off the hook.

Sean blackmails Sandy and she resorts to stealing from the locker room but Danny catches her in the act. She explains the situation and Danny tells her she's probably been caught on camera. He sneakily manages to hide the evidence before Chrissie gets her hands on it. Jess, meanwhile, is enjoying giving Ric a guilt trip about her cheap and pokey accommodation. Ric decides it's time to face up to his responsibilities as a parent. When an old colleague offers him the chance to go private and earn more money, he accepts, despite his principles.
Chrissie's homeless, Owen's still fuming and Ben's got some bad news for Tony. Chrissie's been off work for days, and she's alarmed when she returns to find all her worldly belongings in her office. Ed's shocked to learn she's homeless and offers a bed at his but she flatly refuses. Things are less than rosy for Sandy, too. When Sean turns up blackmailing her again, she resorts to desperate measures and steals from a deceased patient. Danny catches her in the act again and tells her enough is enough and lures Sean into a trap. When he's confronted by Danny he scampers off like a coward. Tom pays a visit to the hospital therapist as part of his AA programme. When he fails to admit he has a problem, he's brought down a peg by the therapist and is forced to face up to the reality of his alcoholism. After Lisa's given an ultimatum by Owen to leave maternity, she goes for an interview at AAU. Jess isn't too happy with the prospect of working with her!
Tom's finding his sessions with Dr Forbes extremely therapeutic—he fancies her but he's careful not to disclose too much about his turbulent past. When he plucks up the courage to ask her out, he's interrupted by a phone call. Jess, meanwhile, is determined to sort out everyone's love lives as well as her own. When she sees Diane flirting with Alex, she concocts a plan to wean her off him by fixing her up with Steve. Steve fancies Diane but it looks like both Diane and Jess fancy Alex. Alex's shakes have returned: when Diane catches him taking relaxants, he nervously dismisses he has a problem, further arousing her suspicions. Tension mounts between Alex and Ed again when Alex tells him he's needs to sort out his attitude if he's to continue working with him.
Kaths trial for the assistance of Terry's suicide begins and everyone is surprised when she is charged with murder.
Kath's trial continues with unflattering revelations about the pasts of her and her son. Chrissie gives her a good character reference and she is let off on all charges.
After the crash, Ben and Steve are trapped in a car severly injured. When the medics get to the scene, Ric realises that Steves leg is too damaged to save and they can't get to Ben because Steve is in the way. So Ric deides that Steve needs an amputation. When they get Steve out they can get to Ben but when they get Ben out, they discover that he is too badly injured to save and he dies.
While Kath starts her first day back after the trial, Lisa's Plans to go to Ben's funeral are thwarted.
Lisa's first day working in AAU proves to be difficult and Chrissie can no longer stand living with her mother.

A new nurse Kelly Yorke starts work in Keller and Elizabeth Woods is admitted after a suppossed mugging. Her husband tries to convince her to say that Zubin raped her. When she does, Tom suspends him.
While Tom juggles Anita and Diane, Alex has to decide if he should have Charles Merricks operation. Kath gets suspicious when she notices that Elizabeth Wood's Husband won't leave her side and Zubin manages to persuade her to tell the truth.
Charles Merrick operates on Alex Adas and Diane comes along for support. Meanwhile, Sammi Sattar is in for a sperm test to see why they aren't able to conceive.

Chrissie finaly finds out about the relatioship between Owen and her mother and after a fight between the two, they both get suspended. As the police investigations continue a forensic psychologist is brought in to interrogate the murder suspects.
Ric is served with a reposession notice as he gambles away more od his money and Nic Yorke is still being held at the police station for the murder of two.
As Jess and Kelly go to visit Nic at the police station, Ric tries to hide his gambling debts and the fact that his home has been repossessed.
Having lost his home, Ric Griffin has been sleeping in his office.
When the police realise that Nic couldn't have been the murderer, he is released. Meanwhile, Rosies daughter is admitted to AAU after overdosing on her mother's iron tablets.
Jess finds out that her father has been sleeping in his office and she insists that he stays with her. Ric defends Kath from the board who want to suspend her and she is arrested.
Kelly wants Nic to run away with her, she finaly tells him the truth.
Nic and Kelly's mother is admitted with severe stab wounds and Nic thinks Kelly is responsible. Kelly promises that she will hand herself in to the police but later she trie to kill her mother again. Kath interrupts her and she chases her through the hospital until they are in a room alone together and Kelly stabs Kath.
Zubin Khan finds Kath bleeding to death in a room and Nic's mother finaly confesses to him.
There's a dramatic start to the festive season in Holby following the gas explosion, which has left siblings Nic and Kelly fighting for their lives. The pair are rushed into hospital, where Jess keeps a vigil by Nic's bedside, while Kelly is rushed into theatre—and for Ric, who knows his colleague is a deranged murderess, this proves a real test of his professionalism, as he resists the temptation to just let her die. Things get violent when he admits that he stole her keys and delibrately caused his girlfriends death. He gets pushed through a window which causes him severe bleeding and he is taken to Holby where Ric operates on him unaware of the situation. Meanwhile in maternity, Mubbs and Owen treat a pregnant woman with syphilis.

Meanwhile, Lisa is offered the position of Ward Sister on Keller.

Diane's pregnant sister is brought in to Holby after being in a car crash. As she deteriorates, her and her unborn baby's life are hanging in the balance.
Rosie gets some good news but Mubbs does not seem as enthusiastic about it. Meanwhile, Diane's sister's condition worsens and her baby must be delivered by cesarean. After the baby has been delivered, Joanna dies.
Diane struggles on her first day back after her sister's death. Will's bedside manner needs improving, and Connie digs around in his past.

Meanwhile, a plastic surgeon is treating a patient on the ward and Lisa is forced to evict Donna when she fails to pay the rent.
As Zubin starts making plans for the hospital, Donna confides her problems in Chrissie who is very upset after being set up with Carlos by Tricia. Meanwhile, Diane discovers that Jack's father wants custody of his son.
Zubin and Ric give a lecture at Holby City University which is attended by Ric's son, Leo and his pregnant girlfriend who happens to be a drug addict. She goes into premature labor and the baby must be delivered by cesarean section.
Connie observes Will for the day after receiving numerous complaints from patients about his attitude. The situation is made worse when a patient makes a complaint to the board.

Chrissie's father mark decides to leave the hospital after he discovers that neither Tricia or Chrissie want him to stay. But later Tricia has a change of heart and decides to tell him he can stay after all, but can't speak for his daughter Chrissie.
Jess notices she's bleeding slightly and is taken to Maternity. she is later rushed in to surgery where she has a reaction to a drug. will she and the baby be ok? Jodie tells Mickie why she doesn't like Will. she later drives to him him causing a lot of scaffolding to fall on to him.
Will was left impaled on a pole and trapped underneath the scaffolding after Jodie crashed into him. Another man, Dermot was impaled by the same pole trapped under Will. Casualty's Comfort arrived at the scene. Meanwhile, Jodie ran off and eventually caught up with Mickie. She lied and said she lost consciousness and her foot slipped. Later, Mickie discovered she'd been deceived and shopped her to the cops. Jess was still recovering from her operation and was surprised when Sean asked her to marry him. Zubin told Jess he wanted to take care of her but Jess wasn't convinved. The fire-fighters moved Will and Dermot together and they were taken to Darwin. Connie fought to save Will and took him off bypass to see if he could sustain himself. Suddenly his condition detoriated and he died.
It is the day of Will's memorial service but, as Connie gives a reading, Will's wife, Susan, tells her to shut up and tell the truth. Susan claims that Connie made Will's life a misery by bullying and harassing him. Later, Holby Chief Executive, Peter, informs Connie that Susan is making an official complaint about her bullying to the board. Peter suggests that Connie resigns quietly… Owen and Diane are back from their honeymoon. Chrissie tells Owen that Diane should know about her husband's infidelity. Later, Owen sees Diane and Chrissie speaking and wonders if Chrissie will tell Diane about their night of passion. Sean talks to Jess about wedding plans, but she says she wants to take things slowly. Sean decides to ask for Ric's blessing. When he receives it, an overjoyed Sean tells Jess the news. He takes out a ring and proposes, but they are interrupted by a patient. Later, Sean pesters Jess for an answer and warns her that he will not wait around for ever.
Jess and Zubin talk and Sean realises she does not love him, so they decide to end their relationship and call off the wedding. Meanwhile, Chrissie persuades Connie to consider Mark for a permanent position, and she says she will interview him that afternoon. Mark says he will go but he later changes his mind and tells Connie he does not want the job. Connie is furious and berates Chrissie. She uses her skills from theatre to keep him alive, but it is Maria who gets the credit. Linden is delighted when Callie finally wakes from her coma and tries to protect her from the truth about the accident and the police, who want to speak to her about drink driving.
Mark calls the police when Daisha goes missing, but as they focus inquiries on him, he begins to fear the worst. Faye tells Joseph their relationship is finished, but Elliot tries to intervene. Michael is still discovering how working with Annalese will affect his personal and professional lives, and Linden realises he has become too involved with Callie and her problems.

Connie hijacks Ric's attempts to gain the public relations initiative after the murder of the security guard, by planning to perform a high profile operation. Maddy saves the day when the excesses of the night before put Tom under stress, and the opening of the new creche fails to solve Daisha's problems with Joe, so Rachel offers to take care of the infant to allow her a night off.
Ric's initiative for zero tolerance of patients who refuse to help themselves or abuse hospital staff makes it clear to Connie he has no intention of quitting as director of surgery. Joseph continues to be distracted by fears that Jac is pregnant, Maddy suffers after her night out with Tom, and Maria makes use of Sam's car but is upset by the realisation he has no plans to return from America.
Annalese suspects Michael is being unfaithful and rummages through his belongings, hunting for evidence. Lucy is allowed to go home following the success of Elliot and Tara's operation. Tara's contract is extends by Jayne and they work together on a case. After Elliot tells her the truth about his wife's death, Tara considers her future at the hospital. Mark thinks that Chrissie is too old for Oliver. Connie is determined to become the new director of surgery. When she ignores Ric's instructions and operates on a patient he ends up dying of complications caused by the surgery.
Ric finds it hard to contain the press attention and has to decide if he want to be Director of Surgery or just a doctor. Joseph's paranoia about Faye continues.
Connie wants the director of surgery job and is surprised when Jayne uses the affair with John against her. Jayne is able to persuade the board to give the job to Michael before resigning and leaving the hospital. Maria lets Donna down on her return to work. Maria ends up being hit by a car outside the hospital. Joseph finds out that Faye called Linden on the day of the wedding.
Following Maria's accident, Ric tries to save her life. Ric isn't happy when he finds out that Michael is the new director of surgery but they are forced to work together to help Maria.
Chrissie celebrates her birthday and Oliver invites her out for a drink. Chrissie finds out that she is pregnant and decides to have dinner with her father instead of going out with Oliver. A fracture is discovered in Maria's spine. When Maria wakes up she has no feeling in the lower part of her body.
Michael is not happy when Connie undermines him. Connie is given the green light for her robotic surgery project. Donna tries to lift Maria's spirits and tries to get her to make friends with another patient on the ward.
Faye attempts to win over Joseph but when Archie becomes sick and is admitted to the hospital she finds her priorities changing. Linden is confronted by Joseph about the kiss he shared with Faye on their wedding day. Elliot manages to save Archie's life. Maria learns that she could be paralysed for life and that her only chance is an operation which could cost her everything.
When Mark see Oliver flirting with Daisha he is not happy. Oliver learns that Chrissie is going to have his baby but she ends up miscarrying the baby. Ric and Henry Miller operate on Maria. Penny is given the chance by Connie to impress her but she ends up getting side tracked by Elliot.
Maria is determined to stay positive about her future. Connie attempts to impress Vanessa Lytton, the new CEO on her first day at work but she finds it hard to deal with a crisis on the ward. Mark tries to find a new man for Chrissie to date and she thinks he should get a date too.
Faye finds it hard to cope after Archie's condition gets worse. Lauren the nurse who is looking after him makes a big mistake when she administers his medication. Vanessa is introduced to the team by Michael and he lays out his plans for the future. Mark wonders if the wards need a matron but he is soon won over. Judith begins to wonder if Mark is needed though.
Vanessa suspects foul play after Archie suddenly dies. Connie, Ric and Faye are dismissed from the hospital so that there can be a full police inquiry. Mark is able to get Chantelle to confess to Maddy's murder.
Donna finds herself having to deal with Derek's meagre effects and sets off on a trip that ends with her having to confront some serious responsibilities. Joseph is determined to get to the bottom of Faye's suspension and he ends up confronting Lauren. Judith ends up realising that Mark is really needed at the hospital after he saves the day.
Elliot finds it hard to run the ward without Connie. Penny discovers that he is suffering with angina. Vanessa appoints a new locum registrar. Joseph, Faye and Faye's mother attend Archie's funeral. Judith is given bad news about her divorce settlement. Maria returns to work.
Linden's daughter, Holly, comes back into his life after her grandparents learn that she plans to leave college and move out. Jac manages to earn Oliver's respect. Penny decides to avoid Thandie and act on Elliot's advise.
Joseph leaves Thandie and Elliot to look after the ward as he attempts to get his hands on Archie's notes. Chrissie clashes with Judith after finding out that put Mark's job under threat. Oliver realises that he has to accept help something.
Penny's plan to impress Elliot doesn't go the way she hoped. Oliver spots something crucial that Jac has missed when he works on a case with her.
Joseph is determined to prove to both Vanessa and the police that potassium killed Archie. Elliot finds himself loosing confidence in Joseph. When Judith tries to improve the relationship between herself and Chrissie she ends up making thinks worse.
After Joseph accuses Lauren of being responsible for Archie's death he is accused of bullying of her by Vanessa and is threatened with a suspension. After he tells his theory that Archie died after being given potassium, it soon becomes clear that Lauren could be responsible after all. Vanessa manages to disappoint Michael.
Mark offers Judith his support after her teenage son is admitted to the hospital with alcohol poisoning. Elliot accuses Penny of being too close to Scott. Maria attempts to impress Daisha.
Linden and Holly makes plans for Christmas at home together. Their plans are ruined though when Linden's past memories come back to haunt him after Holly gives him a present. Linden tries to deal with not being able to have saved his wife's life. Before shes leaves for the Philippines, Dais ha gets cosy with Oliver. Chrissie announces that she is expecting a baby.
The police arrest Faye for the murder of her son, Archie. Joseph still suspects Lauren of making a mistake over his medication; Thandie realises Joseph is right, and risks her own reputation to get Lauren to confess. Oliver is amazed when Jac lets him help on an exciting operation, saving a patient's life. They are both so hyped-up on adrenaline post-op that they get it on in the locker room together, missing the New Year's Eve party - all photographed by Penny. Having taken Maria for granted all day, Donna realises the man she fancies is gay. Perhaps friends are more fun after all.
Faye is back at work and trying to get on with her day but can't resist confronting Lauren who tries to blame the hospital system for Archie's death. Ric returns from 'gardening leave' with a new relaxed attitude to work, but it doesn't last long when he disagrees with Jac over the treatment of a patient. Chrissie is shocked when a previous one-night-stand turns up at Holby and she has to admit he's the father of her child.
Lauren receives a visit from her mother. In the relatives room Sandra tells the whole story from her daughter's respective. Faye realises she needs to stop blaming Lauren for what happened and release the anger she feels. The board decide not to renew Judith's contract when they need a scapegoat. Oliver tries to stop Daisha from seeing pictures of his dalliance with Jac after they are posted around the hospital.
Linden tries to be friends with Faye again and help deal with her loss. When Faye has to deal with the death of a young child whilst at work she finds it difficult. Thandie hopes to be reunited with Ric but when she mishandles a case at work that no longer seems possible. Maria finds the going tough when she has to run the ward and comes to a few realizations.
Donna finds herself having to make some difficult decisions about the welfare of her young niece. Jac finds herself being to pleasant to Joseph for a change. Chrissie thinks that the new locum George is too good to be true.
Ric wants to get rid of Thandie. He tries to prevent her being considered for a full time post, but realises he would do better biding his time. Penny wants to impress Elliot, but when she gets emotionally involved in a case she compromises herself professionally. Holly upsets Faye and causes trouble on the ward, but Faye eventually softens and they bond.
Penny admits that she had been seeing Scott but denies mishandling the case on the day he is due to have his heart surgery. Penny finds herself having to choose between a relationship with Scott and her career. Jac is determined to prove to Michael that she is the right person for the consultants job. When Oliver lets Jac down she ends up blowing her top at Penny. Dalisha finds out about Oliver and Jac's fling.
(Crossover with Casualty; part one is S24E24: Love Is a Battlefield (1)) In theatre, Elliot struggled to save Charlie's life due to tiredness and being overworked. He looked to have given up when Jordan suggested a new American treatment. Elliot caved in and the new treatment saved Charlie's life. Elliot realised that he needed to take care of his own health. He took the rest of the day off, ignoring Vanessa's reports that needed doing.
Michael could see Connie looked better than ever; immaculate, confident, and on top of the world. However, he discovered that Connie was no longer queen bee in her new job, and saw an opportunity to tempt her back to Holby. He wasn't successful and neither was Elliot. Refusing to return Connie couldn't help but feel guilty about the people she'd left behind.
Thandie and Ric's relationship is put to the test when her brother Moses, who is terminally ill, arrives at Holby. Ric is persuaded to treat Moses in secret, but then Moses takes things one stage further, he asks Thandie to help him die.
Faye tells Joseph their marriage is over. While Faye turns her attentions to Linden, Joseph becomes involved in a major incident in town, making Faye regret what she has done and pray for his safe return.
Joseph appears to self-destruct after he and Daisha find themselves involved in a shoot out. Daisha ends up being fatally wounded. Will Daisha survive this? The team struggle to deal with two major incidents. Michael tells Vanessa that she must remove Toby Geddes or they will lose both Elliot and Jac. As Daisha's life hangs in the balance, Ollie finds it hard to cope.
Joseph works out that something is going on between Faye and Linden and he ends up attacking Linden. Mark finds his loyalty torn between Daisha and Judith and in the process loses both of them. Chrissie isn't too happy when she finds out that Sacha is back at the hospital.
After Daisha says goodbye, Mark has to deal with a difficult shift. After Maria is sent home by Vanessa because of her back injury, Mark decides to try and get her some compensation. Faye and Elliot work out that Linden's injuries were caused by Joseph. After he begins to doubt Faye, Linden decides to end their relationship.
Jac hides the fact from the rest of the team that a new patient at the hospital is her mother. Jac has to break the news to her mother that she is going to need a new kidney. After arriving late for a session, Oliver is determined to impress both Connie and Elliot. New nurse, Roberta tells him a few home truths after he passes Penny's research off as his own. Mark decides to with the claim for compensation for Maria when he learns it could cost her career. Mark resigns after becoming fed up with Vanessa's interference.
After Michael finds out about Mark's resignation he accepts that Vanessa needs to go. His plan doesn't go to plan though when Vanessa makes him look stupid in a board meeting before she leaves the hospital. Joseph apologises to Linden and lets Faye move back into their flat in an effort to sort things out. Not everything goes to plan though and he ends up in somebody elses arms.
Jac attempts to remain unaffected by her mother's situation. After her condition deteriorates though Jac is forced to admit to Michael and Joseph that she's the mother who left her. Jac ends up offering her mother a new kidney. After Chrissie goes into early labour she has to have an emergency C-section. Mark finally learns that Sacha is the father of the baby.
Chrissie finds it hard to embrace Sacha's family especially when his mother, Esther starts talking about wedding. Chrissie ends up telling Sacha they wont be a family but he will always be a father to the baby. Michael, Ric and Joseph battle to save Paula’ when the operation for the kidney transplant hits some problems. After Paula pulls through, Jac celebrates her birthday with her mother for the first time in many years. Michael isn’t happy when Cunningham says he wants him to share the Director of Surgery responsibilities with Connie. Michael attempts to convince him to let him job share with Ric instead
Paula goes missing whilst Jac is caring for her at home. When Jac finds her she also meets also her grandfather and half-sister too. Jac realizes she has been conned by her mother and vows to move forward with her life without her family in it. When Faye finds out she is pregnant she has to decide whether to tell Linden or not
The porters have gone on strike and the hospital has come to a halt. Cunningham is impressed after Mark manages to sort the problem out single handily and he later suggests that Mark should consider applying for the CEO post at the hospital. Connie finds out about Ric and Michael's director of surgery job-share and she tries to get involved with Joseph's research project. Michael realises he has to let Ric in if he is to save his marriage.
Mark still wont apply for the CEO position because he is not happy with the politics involved. When he discovers a patient whose quality of life could be enhanced significantly by new laser treatment he has a change of heart about applying for the position. After Oliver gains a promotion things go wrong. Penny is moved back to AAU after it comes out that she slept with a patient. Maria has to cope on her own when Donna disappears for the whole day.
The hospital finds itself full of patients following a flash flood in the south west of the country. The basement is is danger of flooding. As Connie and Joseph operate on Elaine the back-up generator fails.
Mark finds himsef in demand when everyone turns to him for advice on the emergency flood situation. Donna and Maria are stuck in a lift with a critical patient following the power cut. Connie finds her patient going into crisis in theatre. A visiting doctor supports Penny.
Mark learns that he has got the CEO job and informs the staff that he will be helping out with day-to-day duties as it is his last day. Connie feels guilty after Elaine is diagnosed with brain damage. Donna is determined to prove herself in her new position.
Greg Douglas, the new registrar arrives on Darwin Ward much to Elliot's surprise. When Greg's thinks that paediatrics patient Ben could have his life-saving operation in America with out having to wait it makes Elliot question him. Linden finds out that Faye is pregnant and she tells him she isn't sure who the father of the baby is. Linden offers to stick by her but she still has to tell Joseph.
Greg and Joseph have to retrieve a heart for a transplant but when they arrive at the hospital it quickly becomes apparent that everything is not well. After Elaine dies, Connie attempts to make peace with Kevin but she believes he is out for revenge. After Kevin ends up rescuing her from an attack by an ex-patient's relative Connie's hopes of them sorting out their problems are dashed by Kevin's subsequent character assassination of her. Connie ends up turning to Greg for some support.
Faye discovers that the baby she is expecting is a boy and finds herself caught between Joseph and Linden's opposing views on a Chorionic Villus Sampling test.
Michael is determined to keep his marriage break-up a secret and he throws himself into his work in an effort to forget about it. After he becomes frustrated with a tricky patient he ends taking his irritation out on Elizabeth and Donna. After he looses a patient in theatre, Michel ends up hitting rock bottom. Elliot is determined to raise the remaining funds that are needed to treat Ben.
A complaint is given to Mark about Sacha making inappropriate comments about a patient. After checking up on Sacha's past he discovers he was accused of sexual harassment at the last hospital he worked at. After Mark confronts Sacha, he complains to Michael that Mark has abused his power. Mark remains suspicious about Sacha even after all the charges are dropped. Elliot works out that he has been scammed by Maggie when the laser fails to show up and is then forced to perform a laser-less interim procedure on Ben.
Elliot is finally able to perform Ben's life-saving laser surgery. It is revealed that Elliot paid for the laser himself with the proceeds from his house after the truth about him being scammed by Maggie is revealed. Mark reports the crime after Elliot refuses to call the police. Linden attempts to stop his personal issues with Joseph from affecting his work. Sacha and Jac compete against one another to get a rise out of Elizabeth but Jac takes the joke a step too far.
Kate, a Trust member with the task of allocating funds left in a will, is shown around the hospital by Ric. Ric comes up with the idea of the funds be invested in the NHS rather than Holbycare. Michael isn't happy when he realises that Ric is getting the better of him both professionally and personally sand he ends up announcing on the ward that he and Annalese are finished and that he's having dinner with Kate. Elliot doesn't like all of the attention that his OBE has received.
Linden is fed up with Joseph and his constant involvement with Faye and the baby. Joseph decides that he wants to be present at the birth which results in Linden announcing that he and Faye are moving to Scotland. When questioned by Faye, Linden admits to her he doesn't know how much longer he can go on with things as they are at the moment.Kate turns turn Michael offer to be his date for a charity event and their affair comes to an end. After Michael defends her, Connie ends up agreeing to go with him.
Ric is concerned about some test results and ends up clashing with Michael over the Moyles Fund. The continued sexual tension between Greg and Connie interferes with their care of some patients. Faye ends up alienating Linden by pushing Joseph for a divorce.
With the battle for funds reaching new levels, Michael and Ric both must pitch their ideas to the board. After Ric runs into Annalese their connection becomes more conspicuous by the minute. Greg who is suffering with a hangover has to teach Oliver all day much to Connie's amusement. Penny is pleased to be made the unofficial boss on the Acute Assessment Unit, but her happiness soon wains when she and Frieda encounter disturbed patient.
Greg attempts to make Connie see that they need to be discreet about their relationship. Connie ends up teasing him though in front of a visiting American surgeon. Michael's continued resentment of Annalese ends up seeing him have a night of hard drinking. Linden is not happy when he learns who has been named as the third party responsible for breaking up Faye's marriage.
Ric realises that Michael's break-up with Annalese has hit him hard, after witnessing his increasingly chaotic behaviour. Ric decides to end things with Annalese. Michael continues to feel down. Oliver ends up standing up to Greg over a patient and ends up making a bad error of judgment. Oliver ends up managing to gain Greg's respect though.
Michael learns from Annalese that she has been seeing Ric following their separation. When Michael confronts Ric about the affair he ends up getting a surprise. Penny begins to have doubts about her career choice during her first day as an F2.
Ric ends up resigning from the board and he tells Annalese that she should stay with Michael. Ric finds his life ending up in Michael's hands. Oliver's attempts to please Greg leave him overestimating his abilities.
Frieda is riled by Penny who sucks up to a lazy and arrogant locum called Glyn. When Penny sees Frieda performing a procedure that only a doctor could do she ends up realising that Frieda is a trained doctor. Lady Byrne offers moral support to Joseph as Faye prepares to receive the Lowes test results. The results come back as being negative. After Lady Byrne reveals that she's been making plans for the baby, Faye informs her and Joseph that she wants nothing from either of them.
Jac is made acting consultant on Keller ward but ends up clashing with Ric over a difficult patient. Greg finds out that Oliver has been telling tales to Connie, blaming him for Oliver's botched procedure. Greg comes up with a way to get even with Oliver though.
Linden returns from his religious retreat and he ends up avoiding Faye. Instead he finds himself turning his attention to a young doctor's development. Jac attempts to sort out her problems with her Keller team-mates after losing their trust over the way she treated Ric.
Annalese wants Ric to come stay with her while he is having his chemotherapy. Michael finds it hard to contain his growing frustration after Connie steps on his toes at work. Joseph worries that he is becoming a doormat again after Connie hands over a case to Greg instead of him. Joseph's plan to assert himself doesn't go the way he hoped.
Linden tries to ignore Faye and he tells her that the AAU is no place for a pregnant woman. Faye ends up taking extreme action to try and gain his attention. Oliver's confidence is crushed following another disagreement with Greg.
The relationship between Faye and Linden breaks down as Linden discovers a number of lies she has told in her desperation not to lose him. Michael is called into work on his day off to explain some figures he's lied about in his plans for Holbycare. Frieda is in a good mood after Oliver asks her out for a drink to say thank you for bailing him out.
Connie feels on top of her game, but when the stranger in her office turns out to be the new joint Director of Surgery, Hanssen, Connie is defiant - she doesn't job share. Setting out to make sure Hanssen knows who is top dog, she outlines her visionary presentation to the Board. But when Hanssen publically dismisses her plans, Connie is humiliated. When Connie watches from the wings as Hanssen gathers the hospital together, telling them that there will be tough times to come, she realises a new King of Holby has been born. Joseph can't help but feel compassion for the grieving, pregnant Faye, and dismisses Jac's cynical view of her. But Joseph can't ignore Faye's capacity for manipulation, and is shocked when she tells him Linden is the father of her child. Reeling from this lie, Joseph knows he can not trust Faye, and decides to treat her with kid gloves. Social pariah Michael finds it hard to keep his spirits up when the Spence charm doesn't work on Hanssen. Vowing not to be beaten, Michael sets his sights on selling himself as the saviour of the hospital via Holby Care. But Hanssen has a different plan for him.
Michael basks in the luxury of Holby Care, leaving Penny in the lurch on the frontline on AAU. But with Hanssen arriving on AAU just in time to witness the mess, Michael realises he may have pushed his luck. Will Michael step up to be Penny's knight in shining armour? Connie is shocked to hear that Ric could be made redundant and wants to try and protect him from Hanssen. Connie struggles to fight the system and realises the financial realities the hospital is facing. With the odds stacked against her, will Connie find another solution to save Ric and beat Hanssen at his own game? Elizabeth is sure she'll be on the redundancy list - last in, first out. More nervous than ever in Hanssen's presence, Elizabeth is worried about making a mistake. With Ric's help, Elizabeth may be able to swing things her way, but will it be enough to secure Hanssen's good opinion and secure her job?
Ric is clinging onto work, despite his declining health. His daughter Jess has important news, but he refuses to make time to listen. When his denial starts affecting his work and the people who love him most, can he swallow his pride and accept that he needs to slow down? Sacha is overjoyed that Chrissie is back from maternity leave, and he tries to play the hero at work to win her affection. But he's made jealous by the instant attraction between Chrissie and Greg. Will Sacha just be left holding the baby? Jac warns Joseph not to get sucked in by a grief-stricken Faye. But when he realises Faye needs psychiatric help and is putting their unborn child's health at risk, will Joseph intervene and protect her?
Penny is put out when Michael is completely distracted by a job interview, as she needs him to write her annual report. Ollie mishandles a terminal case, underlining his own repeated unprofessionalism. Elliot, while appalled at the full extent of Ollie's immaturity, covers for him. Donna meets an attractive new agency nurse, Kieran. After an initial spark, things go downhill as Donna becomes suspicious of his laddish ways.
Hanssen warns Connie that cuts still have to be made on Darwin and he ends up putting Elliot in the firing line. Jac feels like she has to be completley indispensable so that Hanssen will be impressed. When she makes a wrong choice in theatre things don't go to plan. Frieda is encouraged by Penny and Michael to come back on to the day shift on a permanent basis.
After Faye goes into labour she refuses to leave the psyche ward which causes Joseph to panic. The baby is in a breeched position and Faye needs a Caesarean performed quickly. Jac ends up getting a call from Joseph asking for help. Chrissie looks forward to her date with Greg but she is worried that its not the right time to start dating again. Donna is determined not to give into Kieran's charms.
Elliot and Connie argue throughout a difficult shift, as Elliot attempts to remain detached from a patient and Connie's father is admitted to Keller ward. When Elliot walks out of an operation, Connie cannot defend him to Hanssen and admits that he has become a liability. Faye is injured attempting to leave the hospital. Joseph halts their divorce proceedings in an effort to support her, and Faye decides to name their son Harry, after Joseph's deceased brother. However, when Joseph realises that Faye intends to return to the psychiatric unit with Harry, he seeks comfort from Jac. The patient Jac almost killed by neglecting his pre-op checks intends to make a formal complaint, and Chrissie panics, believing she is at fault after being set up by Jac.
Connie's father undergoes an operation which proves more difficult than expected. Struggling to deal with his worsening condition, Connie seeks respite in her work. Having completed his surgical rotation on Darwin, Oliver is posted to the AAU. He loses his confidence in theatre and embarrasses himself in front of Michael. Greg is frustrated to be working with Elliot on Darwin, but comes to respect him when Elliot diagnoses an obscure condition. He is shocked to learn of Connie's plan to push Elliot out of his job, and confronts her over her treatment of her former friend.
Chrissie, tired out from looking after Daniel, has to face the board over a mistake Jac framed her for. Sacha turns into Chrissie’s knight in shining armour and she at long last wonders whether he could be her "Mr. Right". Penny gets above her station when filling in as registrar for the shift, upsetting Oliver in the process before coming back down to earth after a talk from Michael. Joseph tries to get Faye re-admitted to the psychiatric ward but she declines. Joseph, left with no choice, decides to invite Faye and Harry to spend Christmas with him, upsetting Jac after promising to spend Christmas with her. Faye makes a mysterious phone call.
Connie faces tough choices when her dad is rushed into Holby on Christmas Day and she is brought face-to-face with consequences of the cuts. Faye attempts to escape abroad with baby Harry, but is forced by Jac to be honest with both herself and Joseph and make an important decision regarding her future.
A new registrar, Antoine Malick, arrives at Holby and immediately rubs Penny and Michael the wrong way. Donna and Kieran's future together looks shaky after Kieran delivers some shocking news to her. Mark abuses his power to save Chrissie's job.
Joseph has it all figured out. He will pull back his hours to spend more time with his infant son, Harry. But when Hanssen offers Joseph a promotion, it becomes more difficult to put family first. Joseph avoids getting sucked back into long hours at the expense of his son when he decides to leave the hospital for good. Sacha has tried everything to get back on Chrissie's good side. He has apologized, bought her shoes, and now he has volunteered to supervise her on her first week after her hearing. But Chrissie is not having it, and Sacha's apologetic efforts sideline his patients, putting their health at risk. When Frieda learns she is being laid off, Penny begs her to consider applying for an F1 position; she has been a doctor before, after all. Frieda refuses at first, but a day under the wrath of the unforgiving Malick may just jumpstart her motivation.
When Elliot discovers Greg and Mary-Claire in a compromising situation, Greg's position is in jeopardy. Greg goes out of his way to prove to Elliot how talented he is, but at the risk of a patient's life. Donna is back on the ward, angry and bitter about Kieran. Her actions alienate her staff, anger Mark, and ultimately cost a colleague their career in Holby. Chrissie and Sacha are getting closer, but Chrissie fears that Sacha still has feelings for her. She distances herself from him, leaving him devastated.
Mark is torn between maintaining his friendships and his duty to the hospital when Hanssen tells him he must drop a consultant from the rota. However, when Elliot bends the rules to help a patient again, the choice appears to have been made for him. Meanwhile, Kieran returns, desperate to win Donna's affections before he leaves for Afghanistan.
After Malick is left in charge of the AAU, Michael thinks that he should use his team. Malick ends up managing to upset everyone and in particular Penny, whose diagnosis and advice he decides to ignore.
When patient Aislinn Marsh tells Malick she would like a consultant rather than a registrar, it soon becomes apparent that this is not entirely the truth when his replacement is Ric. Malick accuses her of being racist and she uses this as a reason to delay her operation by making a formal complaint against him, saying that he was aggressive towards her. Even though this isn't true, it is Malick's word against hers. Therefore Ric tells him that he isn't allowed to operate on her. However in theatre Aislinn goes into crisis and the team need his help. He walks out of theatre and they assume he's abandoning them, although he swiftly returns with a crash team and saves the day.

But when Sahira proves not only is she a match for Jac but has history with Hanssen, Jac realises all may not be what it seems. Jac knows she has competition - but there's nothing she likes better - bring it on!

When a difficult patient has a phobia of doctors, Frieda is forced to rely on Chrissie, and realises that alienating the nurses isn't the best way forward in her new career.
Penny looses her rag with Ollie when she thinks he's not taking responsibility for landing her in it but when a patient dies unexpectedly, Ollie spirals out of control and admits something monumental about his past. When Greg tires of Sahira throwing her weight around he decides to get her back, by intimating that she can't juggle motherhood with her job. Hanssen is far from impressed when Sahira loses focus in an op and berates her, leaving Greg feeling guilty. Sacha has to do some serious back peddling when he is bamboozled into telling Dan about the first time he met Chrissie. He reveals way too much, and Dan gets the wrong impression of her.
Ric rallies the troops against Hanssen when the latter instructs that all Upper GI cases should be transferred to another hospital. Unwell with cancer, Ric fights on to save his livelihood but when Hanssen learns he's dying, he offers to save his life by removing his tumour. Elliot's efforts to keep a controversial patient's case from Hanssen goes awry and he creates waves when he mistrusts Jac thinking that she was largely to blame for a patient sawing his hand off on her watch. But it's not long before the tables are turned on him and he is stuck in the middle of a storm. Jac's fierce ambition to bag the consultant's jobs gets her into trouble when she goes above Sahira's head, and goes into theatre with a young patient. When the patient dies on the table, Jac has a lot of explaining to do.
As pressure on him mounts, will Ric finally accept he has to go under the knife? Hanssen is insistent that he can save Ric's life in theatre, and puts forward a convincing argument to the team. Ric is less than pleased to find his case under discussion with his colleagues, but Hanssen cunningly manipulates Jess, Ric's heavily-pregnant daughter, into persuading Ric to go ahead with the operation.
It's the day of the consultant interviews. Sahira is tested when a patient, Gary, whom she's previously diagnosed with a benign tumour, is readmitted with serious complications. She soon discovers that the tumour is now malignant. When he demands a second opinion, Sahira turns to Jac, suggesting they operate immediately. Jac disagrees, arguing it is too late. Sahira has to accept this when Elliot reiterates the diagnosis. When Jac tells Gary that his days are numbered, he can't hide his disdain for Sahira. He leaves the ward, taking some drugs from the trolley, and Sahira discovers him slumped at the wheel of his car. She resuscitates him, and is then faced with the challenge of helping explain to Gary's son, Thomas, that his dad is going to die. Consequently she misses her interview slot, and Jac gets the consultant job.
When news of a train crash comes to Holby, Penny leaves to join the team onsite, leaving Ollie with an ultimatum: he must tell Hanssen he failed his exams, or Penny will. Ollie struggles to cope on AAU and gets himself into a sticky situation with a vulnerable patient. But how will that affect his decision to confess all?
Michael is determined to up his game, and not let Penny's death bring him down. In a bid to take a professional risk he aligns himself with an old classmate, but is he selling his soul to make a fast buck?
Greg struggles to reconcile Ellie's bad feeling about the operation in the face of medical arguments to the contrary. Peter remains convinced that surgery is the best option for Ellie, and Greg finds it hard to speak up for her. Greg becomes more isolated when Jac decides to take him off the case. Will Greg do the right thing by Ellie and support her, or remain detached?

After a visit from Sir Fraser, Hanssen chooses to showcase a multi-disciplinary operation. In doing so he ignores the real challenge, and when the showcase doesn't go his way he is forced to make some ruthless decisions about a way forward for the hospital. Chrissie is determined to do better at her studies for the nurse practitioner assessment. She snaps up Malick's offer of help. When Dan hears of their budding friendship he makes an effort to pull her back into his arms. But will Chrissie be so easily swayed? When Sacha hears that Chantelle is no longer required, he offers to be the one to tell her, fearing that Eddi might not have the tact he does. But Sacha soon realises that telling Little Miss Sunshine that she doesn't have a job anymore is not quite as easy as he had hoped.
Sahira is furious with Hanssen for snubbing the cardiac trauma unit before it has even got going. In an attempt to prove its worth, Sahira smuggles a patient into Holby without Hanssen's consent. Hanssen realises just how far she is willing to go to save Darwin, and he realises just how far he is willing to go to keep her at Holby. Dan is keen to keep as far away from Malick as possible. He certainly doesn't want to end up operating with him, so he ignores Malick's advice on his patient. But when the patient gets into trouble, he is forced to face the consequences - or at least the ones he admits to. Sacha can't help but be the nice guy, even if it means losing out for himself. He learns to put himself and his son first, but how will Chrissie take the new Sacha?

Despite the running of his 'Doctor Idol' contest with sidekick and fellow judge Eddi, Sacha struggles to maintain an impartial contest.
When Simone is transferred from St James's in a serious condition, Elizabeth forces Ric to do everything in his power to save her. Jac doesn't want to help Elliot out with a difficult patient, until Elliot attacks her for her selfishness, and she realises that she can play as part of the team when she wants to.
Mo is back at work after giving up her baby. She insists to Jonny that she is fine, but Jonny is not so sure whether Mo is physically or mentally strong enough to be back at work yet. When Emily, a young farmer, is brought in with serious injuries, the new non-referral system has Chrissie concerned; will her patient still receive the best care possible? She clashes with Serena over getting Emily the right treatment, but earns Serena's respect in the process. Serena mentions there is a nursing position going - she thinks Chrissie would be the perfect person. Will Chrissie leave AAU? Hanssen still needs to get Holby into shape financially. He has hired fresh blood, George, to help him achieve his goals, but will he and George see eye-to-eye on the best way to run Holby? Eddi is annoyed by Chrissie, and grows closer to Max
Michael is ready to throw in the towel on the no-referral policy as AAU reaches breaking point. However, when he finds out that new business manager George Binns is carrying out a financial appraisal on all wards, he determines to buckle down and impress the 'money man'. But, with AAU theatre full, Michael is forced to take desperate action with a patient's care in front of George. What will this mean for the future of AAU? Tara is so desperate to prove she can cope with Jac's brutal regime that she rejects any help from Elliot or Ollie. Her pride then stops her from then admitting she is struggling with a patient's diagnosis, resulting in a routine test going very wrong. Chantelle is struggling to believe she will be the best candidate for the permanent nursing position on Keller. Her confidence is further undermined when an old 'friend' from college turns up as a patient and jealously makes a complaint against her.
Michael is at his wits end with the, now permanent, no referrals policy. Ordered by Hanssen to send a guest patient to another hospital rather than transfer them to Keller, he decides to personally ensure they get there. But when there are no ambulances available, Michael decides on drastic action with devastating consequences. Serena is less than impressed when she discovers that a recovering alcoholic is the primary candidate for a liver transplant. But when it appears that they are no longer suitable to receive the organ, Serena clashes with Ric as she fights for her patient to be given a second chance. Mo is disappointed when Jonny reveals he can no longer go to her family do because of his auntie's birthday. Feeling bad, Jonny decides to try and set Mo up with Mr Thompson (her obstetrician). Mo is furious when she finds out what he's been up to, especially when she realises he lied about his auntie's birthday too
Mo feels isolated from Jonny after he lied to her about seeing Jac. A complicated medical dilemma shows up in the shape of a Jehovah’s Witness who wants a bloodless operation. Mo and Jac can not agree about how best to proceed. Following Ritchie Mooney’s death, Hanssen has closed the non-referral scheme and is demanding answers.
When drugs go missing on the ward Max is quick to cover and absolve Eddi, but Sacha is not convinced and has serious concerns about Eddi's mindset. When a Sickle Cell patient then arrives in need of a heavy dose of painkillers, does Max have her best interests at heart, and is Eddi putting her faith in the right friend? Jac refuses to read Tara's research project until she has solved the guest case, but when it takes longer than expected it interferes with her date with Ollie. Tara realises she will have to face up to Jac. Can she solve the mystery of the guest case and will she have the courage to turn down Jac's help in order to go out with Ollie tonight. Malick naively thinks that his new students will be a breeze, but is thrown when he realises they get to mark him on his ability as a teacher. Malick tries his own techniques, but an old master has to show him the way
Jac is worried that the hospital staff are gossiping about her and Jonny. When she sees Ollie and Mo whispering, she jumps to conclusions and takes it out on Mo when they have to work together on a case. She doesn't need help, and her relationship with Jonny doesn't mean anything. Will Jac be able to admit the truth? Max and Eddi have snuck down to the lab for a moment alone. They are interrupted by none other than Luc. When Luc discovers Eddi has found herself a new man, he is quick to assure Sacha he has only returned for his research documents and will soon be gone. Sacha begs him to stay, telling him they need his help. Can Luc work alongside Eddi after everything that has happened? It is Chrissie's birthday, but she doesn't want a big song and dance, despite Sacha's desire to spoil her on her big day. Chrissie's annoyance mounts as she deals with difficult patients and Chantelle gets underfoot. Will Chrissie be able to see the bigger picture and enjoy her day?

When Jonny and Mo find Ollie's phone left in the locker room, they cannot resist pulling a prank on Tara. But when things get out of hand, who will be the first to break?
Hanssen receives yet another life-threatening phone-call from a mysterious caller; this time, the man has come to the hospital to make his threats real. Not happy with the compensation money he received after his father's death, Nick Mooney takes Hanssen hostage in the back of his van... Jac is in a foul mood and Jonny assumes it is work-related, but he is soon put straight when she tells him she might be pregnant. Whilst he is desperate to know if this is the case, Jac is in no hurry to find out. She finally decides to take the test, but what will the outcome be? When Sacha suggests he and Chrissie tie the knot sooner rather than later for tax reasons, Chrissie is less than happy. Refusing to talk to him, he tries his hardest to make it up to her, announcing his feelings more publicly than he planned. But will this be enough for a demanding Chrissie?

Luc discovers what she's been doing and confronts her, but will he report her, or will he keep quiet and help her overcome her addiction? As Ollie and Tara's relationship strengthens, he accidentally tells her that he loves her. Tara struggles to come to terms with it, but a patient makes her see that they are soul mates. She overcomes her fear of commitment and gathers the courage to tell him she loves him too... albeit in Chinese!
Hanssen is struggling to cope with the fallout from last week's interview. When a patient is then admitted who has contacted the press about his treatment at the hands of the NHS, Hanssen is determined to silence the critics. Tara is paranoid about her own condition when a patient arrives on Darwin and refuses the lifesaving treatment offered to them. Emotionally fragile, Tara lays into the patient as Elliot looks on horrified. Elliot tells Tara enough is enough and goes to see Hanssen, determined to transfer Tara off his ward. After Eddi's drunken behaviour at Chrissie and Sacha's wedding, Luc has taken drastic action, determined to make Eddi face up to her problems.

The arrival of new CT1 Lilah Birdwood causes ripples in the AAU playground as Michael and Serena do battle for her respect.
