The Gallagher family will once again face the harsh winter cold in Chicago and await the medical fate of Frank, their patriarch constantly drunk. With the eldest, Fiona anchored in a position and a stable relationship, and Lip freshly graduated in university, it seems that happiness and the American dream would be at hand of Gallagher. But Ian is still missing, Debbie and Carl have to manage their teenage hormones and their neighbors Kev and Veronica have glowing fertility. Ways to get out of it are scarce when you are broke.
