Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a gamer in Japan? I bet you think it's heaven with a house full of games. Well, unless you are someone who is single or someone who cares more about their hobby than family, that dream could be true. For the normal guy with a family the idea of being a gamer in Japan isn't as great as you may think. For a start, Japanese homes are not so big plus the average woman isn't in to games unlike what the media will have you believe. So why am I telling you this? Well, in this volume of Retro Core I give you a quick tour of my home and gaming set up. Also featured in Volume 21 of Retro Core is a look at Saturn Virtua Fighter VS the Arcade version, Stun Runner for the Arcade, Moto Roader II for the PC Engine, Time Killers for the Arcade, Arrow Flash for the Mega Drive and finally Metamoquester for the Arcade. It's been a while in the making but finally I've put the 23rd volume of Retro Core 3 together. The video quality is slightly lower in this show (still 720p) and does corrupt twice due my my video capture card having issues with an updated driver. Anyway, There's some good stuff in this volume with Dead or Alive on the Sega Saturn, Toobin' from Atari for the Arcade, a VS feature for Night Striker, Kat's Run on the Super Famicom, Tri Formation on the Master System and a new feature called Modern Retro where I take a look at a current generation game that is a remake, improved or heavily based upon a retro classic. Season 4

  • S04E01 Volume 1

    • December 23, 2012

Retro Core 3 is over but that's no reason to be upset because Retro Core 4 is here to take over. This new series of Retro Core will feature less games per show however with luck there should be more shows per month rather than just the one show ever 5 or 6 weeks. So what can you expect to see in this 1st volume of Retro Core 4? Well, the main game this week is Jewel Master for the Mega Drive. Not such a widely known game and possibly a pretty good title that many may have over looked. I also take a video in the newly opened Hard Off. In fact it was only opened yesterday! So I headed off down there with my phone and grabbed a bit of video from their "Junk" section. Oh, and for fans of "Shite of the show" Don't worry. It will be back from volume 2 For more details see http://www.segagagadomain.com/RetroCorepage-main.htm

  • S04E11 JB King SFC Joystick - Sonic Blastman - Gynoug

    • July 29, 2013

Are you one of the many people that thought quality joysticks only came around in the last generation? well think again. Saturn had an Astro City arcade joystick! 100% same build quality as Japanese arcades. But even before that in the 16 bit days there were many good sticks. In this show I take a look at the JB King Joystick for the Super Famicom / SNES. This is one hell of a good stick. Game wise there's Sonic Blastman also for the Super Famicom and Gynoug for the Mega Drive. Better known as Wings of Wor in the US.

  • S04E12 Out Run 1209 - Korean Master System - Alien VS Predator

    • August 23, 2013

Have you ever wondered what games you may have missed for a very common system? Well, in Europe the Sega Master System was king of consoles unlike the US and Japan where the Famicom / NES ruled supreme. In Europe Sega had it big during the 8bit and 16 bit days. So it stands to reason that the European Master System library is massive! But that's not to say every game was released in Europe. Oh no. The Koreans were busy ripping off other peoples work and porting the games to the Master System as well as 1 or 2 original titles. Some of which are actually pretty good. Check them out in the special Korean Master System game round up as well as Out Run 2019 for the Mega Drive and Alien VS Predator on the arcade.
