With a "do or die" determination, Fatty Wang paddled furiously toward the shore. Some of the piranhas had been injured, and the scent of blood drove the rest into a frenzy—they turned on each other, tearing their companions apart in a brutal cannibalistic frenzy. This gave the trio a brief respite from the attack. Seizing the opportunity, Shirley Yang used the Flying Tiger Claw to hook onto the rocks at the cave entrance. With help from Hu Bayi and Fatty Wang, they desperately hauled the bamboo raft toward the shore. Just as they reached safety, the raft’s ropes snapped completely, and their gear scattered across the water’s surface.
Risking his life, Hu Bayi dove in to retrieve the equipment, skillfully dodging the snapping jaws of the fish and narrowly escaping danger.
