Fear Itself

Bernard Selden, ein Eigenbrötler in den mittleren Jahren, leidet an heftigen Panikattacken, die von einem Trauma verursacht werden, daß er in seiner Kindheit durchlitt. Der Arzt Dr. Pike wendet an ihm ein neues Verfahren an, das mit Hilfe von Injektionen und Bestrahlungen diese Ängste bekämpfen soll. Und tatsächlich scheint die Behandlung anzuschlagen. Doch eine wirkliche Heilung kann nur durch eines herbeigeführt werden. Er muß sein Kindheitstrauma ergründen.

For as long as he can remember, Bernard Selden (AYRE GROSS) has been haunted by a paralyzing fear. It started when he was six, when he set a fire that killed his four-year-old sister and today, at 27, the fear clings to him like a blanket. But, Dr. Adam Pike (Jeffrey Demunn) has hope for a cure. He has diagnosed Bernard's condition and believes that if he can isolate the part of the brain responsible for fear, the amyglada, he can cure him. The series of injections and radiation designed to build a layer of calcium around the amyglada produces stunning results; Bernard's fear recedes. He even starts a relationship with his neighbor Lisa (Tanya Allen). But there are side effects. Now, Bernard can use his brain to make others feel the kind of crippling fear he used to feel. He is still a prisoner of the past, haunted by images of Mr. Wilkes (Alex Diakun), the owner of the foster home where Bernard's sister died.

Aussi loin qu'il se souvienne, Bernard Selden a toujours été hanté par une peur paralysante. Cela a commencé lorsqu'il avait six ans et qu'il tua, sans le faire exprès, sa soeur de quatre ans en allumant un feu... Le docteur Adam Pike a pourtant bon espoir de lui trouver un remède, il pense en effet pouvoir isoler la partie du cerveau de Bernard qui lui cause cette peur extrême. Après plusieurs injections, la peur de Bernard s'en va effectivement et ce dernier commence même une relation avec sa voisine, Lisa... Mais ces effets sont à double tranchant...

A consecuencia de un trauma infantil, un hombre no es capaz de llevar una vida normal debido a las constantes crisis de ansiedad que sufre. Su mente no deja de imaginar escenas aterradoras, y para él dichas escenas son sorprendentemente reales.
