Bastian comes to Fantasia with a cold and accidentally infects Falkor who becomes deadly sick. The Blue Djinn tells Bastian that he must find a Tarkus flower found on the Dead Mountains, where no one has returned from, that might help him before the Luck Dragon dies, but has an encounterment with a spider creature called Ygramul, the horror of horrors along the way.
Bastien a la grippe, mais il n'écoute pas son médecin qui lui conseille de rester au lit. Il préfère se rendre à Fantasia pour voir ses amis. C'est un voyage qu'il va vite regretter, car il transmet sa maladie à son grand ami Falkor qui n'était jamais tombé malade auparavant. L'unique moyen de le sauver c'est une potion préparée avec les Fleurs de Vie. Mais on ne les trouve que sur le plus haut pic des Montagnes de la Mort, un endroit redouté par tous les Fantasiens...
