Sydney wird überfallen und bekommt von der griechischen Kunstsammlerin Carson Inez eine geheimnisvolle Halskette umgelegt, mit der sie völlig unter Carsons Kontrolle steht. Diese ist nämlich auf der Suche nach der Statue der Athene, und Sydney soll ihr dabei helfen, das Kunstwerk zu finden. Beide reisen nach Griechenland, und tatsächlich gelingt es Sydney, den Standort der Statue ausfindig zu machen. Doch dann beschließt sie, den Bann der Halskette zu durchbrechen.

Sydney is grabbed by mysterious men, who lock a necklace on her. The next morning, under the influence of Carson Inez, she declares an indefinite leave of absence and departs for Greece with Inez. Karen and Nigel are shocked, and Nigel soon ascertains that the amulet has mind-control powers. He travels to Greece, where he finds that Sydney is willingly helping Carson to locate the tomb of Athena. Despite his best efforts, Sydney remains under Carson's thrall. Nigel is captured and reluctantly helps the two women. He later escapes, and Carson and Sydney make a try for the statue. Sydney realizes something is amiss and during moments of clarity manage to inscribe the incantation that binds the necklace wearer. Sent to kill Nigel, she manages to get it to him and he frees her. They capture Carson and avoid her men by putting her under the necklace's control.

Sydney viene aggredita da alcuni uomini che le lasciano una collana al collo. Il giorno dopo l'archeologa parte per la Grecia insieme a Carson Inez. Karen e Nigel sono scioccati. Quest'ultimo è convinto che Sydney sia sotto l'effetto del potere della collana che la sta influenzando. Nigel decide di recarsi ad Atene dove scopre che Sydney e Carson stanno cercando la leggendaria statua di Atena. Nonostante i suoi buoni propositi, Sydney rimane sotto il controllo di Inez. Nigel viene catturato e costretto ad aiutare le due donne. Subito dopo fugge, mentre Carson e Sydney si dirigono verso il luogo in cui dovrebbe celarsi la statua. Sydney realizza che qualcosa non va per il verso giusto: Inez le ordina di uccidere Nigel.
