Ash und seine Freunde machen Rast in einem Pokémon-Center in der Nähe des Silberberges. Dort treffen sie auf Sammy, der Ash zu einem Übungsmatch herausfordert. Ash nimmt natürlich an, aber Sammy kann mit seinem Magby das Match gewinnen. Ash bemerkt, dass alle starke Pokémon haben und er noch eine Menge tun muss, um gut vorbereitet zu sein. Er beschließt also mit seinen Pokémon zu trainieren, so wie die anderen Trainer es auch tun. Da taucht Team Rocket auf und klaut eine ganze Gruppe von Pokémon. Als Ash das verhindern will, wird er von Team Rocket eingesperrt und gefesselt. Doch Larvitar hat sie heimlich verfolgt. Es gelingt Larvitar sowohl Ash als auch die anderen Pokémon zu befreien. Es kommt zum Kampf zwischen Team Rocket auf der einen Seite und Ash und Sammy auf der anderen Seite. Team Rocket verliert, und Sammys Magby entwickelt sich weiter zu Magmar. Es ist nun noch stärker. Ash und Sammy trennen sich und hoffen, bei den Silbermeisterschaften wieder aufeinander zu treffen…
Ash and friends reach the base of Mount Silver, where they hope to return their Larvitar to its birthplace. On their way, Ash faces a young trainer in Pokémon battle, pitting his Cyndaquil against the trainer's Magby. After the battle, Ash has thoughts about trying to make his Cyndaquil evovle. Following behind, Jessie and James note the trainers and their rare and valuable Pokémon preparing to battle in the Johto Championship. Setting aside their usual plans for capturing Pikachu-they capture Larvitar and many other Pokémon.
