The story is set in the near future when GunPla Battles, competitions that pit Gundam plastic models against each other, have become popular worldwide in the "Second GunPla Boom." Sei Iori, a first-year middle-school student and the only son of a model shop owner, is talented at building GunPla, but inexperienced in the GunPla Battles. He encounters a mysterious boy named Reiji, who happens to be an accomplished Gundam Fighter. Together, they strive for the GunPla Battle world championships.

Dans un futur proche les Gunpla Battles, compétitions de modèles de Gundam en plastique dans une arène, sont devenus populaires dans le monde entier dans le «Deuxième Gunpla Boom». Purtroppo Sei non è altrettanto capace nel pilotare le proprie creazioni e viene perennemente sconfitto. Ma un giorno incontra Reiji, un misterioso ragazzo venuto da molto lontano, che promette di esaudire il suo desiderio. Che sia proprio Reiji il pilota ideale per il Build Strike, il modello che Sei ha costruito appositamente per partecipare al torneo di Gunpla Battle? ---Serie 2 GBF Try--- Sono trascorsi 7 anni dalla vittoria di Sei Iori nel Settimo Campionato Mondiale di Gunpla Battle. Le competizioni sono ora gestite dalla Yajima Trading, con nuove regole e battle mode che hanno fatto crescere ulteriormente la popolarità dei Gunpla in tutto il mondo.Tuttavia, l’Istituto Seiho, scuola un tempo frequentata da Sei, non è in grado di partecipare ad alcun evento. Le battaglie si combattono con squadre da tre, ma il Club di Gunpla Battle dell’Istituto Seiho conta un unico membro, la studentessa del terzo anno Fumina Hoshino. Ma la situazione cambia all’arrivo di un nuovo studente appena trasferito, il giovane combattente di arti marziali Sekai Kamiki. Da lì a poco, entra nel club anche Yuuma Kousaka, fratello minore di China.La squadra Try Fighters è nata! Fumina, con il suo Winning Gundam (un’unità SD originale), Sekai con il Build Burning Gundam (dalla serie G Gundam) e Yuuma alla guida del Lighting Gundam (basato sul Re-GZ del Contrattacco di Char) possono finalmente competere con altri Gunpla Fighters!

時は近未来。 アニメ作品『機動戦士ガンダム』のプラスチックモデル――通称『ガンプラ』が、1980年代に一大ブームメントを巻き起こしてから早幾年。 今、第２次ガンプラブームと呼ぶべき、新たな波が世界を席巻していた。 その人気を牽引しているのが、『ガンプラバトル』の存在である。 仮想空間のＣＧなどではなく、製作したガンプラそのものを操作して戦うという、画期的なバトルシステムの登場により、その人気は拡大、毎年、ガンプラバトル世界大会が開催されるまでに至っている。 本編の主人公、イオリ・セイも、ガンプラを愛し、ガンプラバトル世界大会への出場を夢見る、若きガンプラビルダー（製作者）である。 模型店の一人息子ということもあり、高いガンプラ製作能力を持つ彼だが、バトルの操縦には疎く、大会に出場しても初戦敗退を続けていた。そんな彼が、卓越したガンプラ操縦技術を持つ謎の少年、レイジと出会い、コンビを組んで世界大会に挑む！ ガンプラビルダー、セイ。 ガンプラファイター、レイジ。 セイが作って、レイジが戦う。 彼らが、噂のビルドファイターズ！ 目指すは、ガンプラバトル世界大会への出場――その優勝だ！

La historia se desarrolla en un futuro cercano en que las “Batallas GunPla”, competiciones entre gunplas, se han hecho tan populares que se habla del “Segundo Boom de los GunPla”. Sei Iori, es un estudiante hijo único del dueño de una tienda de modelismo. Quizás por eso su habilidad construyendo gunplas es notable, pero no cuenta con experiencia en Batallas GunPla. Un día se encuentra con Reiji, un misterioso muchacho que resulta ser un experto en las Batallas GunPla. Juntos intentarán alcanzar el prestigioso “Campeonato Mundial de Batallas GunPla”.

本作品为包含《SD高达FORCE》与《SD高达三国传》在内的“高达系列”作品，同时也是系列再次以将高达系列作品中的兵器立体化的塑胶模型产品，通称“GUNPLA”的系列为主题的作品。 2014年5月15日，万代公布了该系列的第二季新企划——“NEXT FIGHTERS STANDBY”，并于2014年7月17日宣布新作名为《高达创战者TRY》，预定于2014年10月放映。 第二季除了将历代高达以改装、改色或无变动的造型再度出场外，剧中还会看到前作大部分高达的角色作为路人出现，可以是驾驶员的长相与原作极为相似，或是前作角色在同一画面中出现作为路人背景。

Der Traum des jungen Schülers und Gunpla-Entwicklers Sei Lori ist es, eines Tages der beste Kämpfer in einem Gunpla-Turnier zu werden und seinen Vater zu überflügeln. Er ist das Einzelkind einer Familie, die einen Gunpla-Shop besitzt und somit sehr gut informiert, durch seine schlechten Fähigkeiten als Pilot, ist er allerdings schon öfter in der ersten Runde eines Turniers ausgeschieden. Im Laufe der Geschichte trifft er auf Reiji, einen seltsamen Jungen, der ihm fortan bei dem Ausbau seiner Fähigkeiten zu Seite steht. Er schenkt Sei einen Juwel, zusammen mit dem Versprechen, dass er ihm helfen wird, wenn er sich das wünscht. Zusammen mit Seis angepasstem GAT-X105B Streik Gundam, gehen sie in das nächste Turnier, um mit den besten Gunpla-Kämpfern zu konkurrieren.

作品的故事舞台為近未來，動畫作品《機動戰士GUNDAM》的塑料模型，通稱「GUNPLA」（鋼普拉）在1980年代引起熱潮後數十年的世界。在該時捲起了一股「第二次高達模型熱潮」的新浪潮。而帶動這個熱潮的便是名為「高達模型對戰」的娛樂。因為發現了新元素帕拉夫斯基粒子進而開發的技術讓「高達模型對戰」的出現，每年也都會舉辦高達模型對戰的世界大賽。主角伊織誠是個喜愛高達模型，並夢想著有一天能參加高達模型對戰世界大賽的高達模型玩家。 身為模型店的獨生子，擁有製作高達模型的高超技巧，然而卻不擅長對戰的操作，總是在高達模型對戰中的第一場就敗下陣來。這樣的他，遇見了一位戰鬥時可以將高達模型操控得出神入化的神祕少年-嶺司，於是兩人組成搭檔向世界大賽展開挑戰。
