Beim Versuch, einen Fassadenmaler vor einer abstürzenden Arbeitsbühne zu retten, fällt Gary plötzlich selbst in die Tiefe. Ein Passant, Dr. Nick Sterling, ein bekannter Kinderarzt und Frauenschwarm, bremst seinen Sturz mit einem vollen Müllcontainer: Es stellt sich heraus, dass Nick und Erica alte Bekannte sind und sich erst kürzlich wiedergetroffen haben. Dabei scheint eine heftige Liebe entbrannt zu sein - auf die Gary ausgesprochen eifersüchtig reagiert.
In seiner Zeitung liest Gary von einem Unglück, das sein Gewissen auf die Probe stellt: Das Krankenhaus, das Nick am nächsten Tag einweihen soll, wird abbrennen, der Arzt dabei ums Leben kommen. Als Gary während der Gala den Feueralarm auslösen will, überrascht ihn Erica. Sie glaubt, er wolle Nicks Party sabotieren. Während die beiden streiten, bricht der Brand aus.
Erica reunites with a childhood friend, Nick Sterling, who seems to be the perfect guy. Gary is jealous of their relationship and reads in the paper that Nick is going to propose to Erica. Gary also reads that the hospital that Nick just got done building is going to catch on fire at the opening party so he goes to the party but the building still catches on fire and he has to save Nick and Erica.
Gary rencontre Nick Sterling, un médecin renommé, dont les manières un peu affectées l'agacent.
