Do města přijede paní Olive s nemocným honákem, který s sebou přinesl španělskou chřipku. Lidé netuší o závažnosti nemoci do té doby, než začnou umírat první lidé. Michaela se snaží zvládnout epidemii karanténou v Charlottině ubytovně a sama se smrtelnou nemocí nakazí.
Paní Olive je tetou dětí a má pocit, že ví, co je pro ně nejlepší. Michaela se bojí, že jí Olive děti vezme.
Noch immer kämpft Dr. Quinn, mittlerweile Dr. Mike genannt, gegen die Vorurteile der Bewohner von Colorado Springs, die sich von einer Frau einfach nicht ärztlich versorgen lassen wollen. Doch als Olive, die Schwester des Ladenbesitzers Bray, von einem längeren Mexiko-Aufenthalt zurückkehrt und die Grippe in Colorado Springs einschleppt, ergreift Dr. Mike entschlossen die Initiative: Sie macht der Bevölkerung eindringlich klar, dass eine Epidemie nur verhindert werden kann, wenn man die an Grippe erkrankten Bewohner von den Gesunden trennt.

Auch mit Nachschub ist so schnell nicht zu rechnen, da die Postkutsche aufgrund der Grippeepidemie einen großen Bogen um Colorado Springs macht. Da hat Sully die rettende Idee: Er lässt Cloud Dancing, einen Medizinmann der Cheyenne, kommen, der Dr. Mike mit indianischen Riten und einem speziellen Kräutertee wieder auf de Beine bringt.
Miss Olive arrives back in town and believes that she should be the one looking after Matthew, Colleen and Brian. She brings with her a sick cowboy who had contracted influenza but everyone is unaware of the exact nature of his illness. Michaela attempts to try her hand at cooking but is unsuccessful. After the cowboy dies and his child becomes ill with the same thing Dr. Mike discovers that it is influenza. People in the town were dying and Dr. Mike wanted to quarantine people who are sick in Charlotte's boarding house. Brian comes down with the influenza and Colleen begins to think that Dr. Mike only wants to treat people instead of being their guardian and starts to resent her. Dr. Mike is running out of medicine and Sully suggested Cheyenne brewed tea but she does not want to administer a drug she is not familiar with. Dr. Mike uses the last bit of medicine for Jake, Brian and Horace. Brian's fever finally breaks and Dr. Mike is relieved but she herself now has influenza. Sully had Matthew go for Cloud Dancing, Medicine Man. Will they get back in time?
Une épidémie de grippe mortelle s'abat dans la région de Colorado Springs. N'ayant aucun endroit où soigner ses malades, Michaela, aidée par Sully, rouvre la pension de famille de Charlotte Cooper saisie par la banque. L'épidémie s’étend et prend une ampleur inquiétante alors que Michaela commence à manquer de médicaments et qu'elle-même présente des signes d’affection laissant présager qu’elle est atteinte de la maladie.
Una terribile influenza colpisce la città di Colorado Springs e il dottor Mike deve stare a contatto con i malati per curarli, ma non ha una clinica per i suoi pazienti. Quella che prima era una pensione tenuta da Charlotte, viene trasformata temporaneamente in una clinica. I cittadini si chiedono però se una donna sia in grado di gestire una situazione simile. Dopo un po' anche Michaela si ammala di influenza e Sully, preoccupato, manda a chiamare uno dei suoi più cari amici indiani: Nube Che Corre. Grazie alle medicine di quest'ultimo Michela e gli ammalati del paese riescono a guarire.
Mientras Matthew, Colleen y Brian están pasando tiempo con Olive, hermana de Loren, Michaela trata sin éxito de aprender a cocinar. Michaela se impacta cuando ella descubre que Olive le ha obsequiado un arma a Matthew. Sin embargo, el verdadero horror llega cuando una epidemia de influenza llega a Colorado Springs. La gente se cuestiona si Michaela de verdad puede tratar la enfermedad al ser una mujer doctor.
