Buffy, Willow und Oz beginnen ihr Studium am College von Sunnydale, und schon bald ereignen sich dort seltsame Dinge: Studenten verschwinden spurlos, darunter auch Eddie. Als Buffy Eddie wenig später in Gestalt eines Vampirs wieder sieht, wird ihr klar, dass böse Mächte hinter den Vorfällen stecken. Buffy moves into her dorm and attempts to adjust to college life. Everything around her seems to have changed without the constant interaction with the gang she had in High School. With Giles becoming a 'gentleman of leisure', Willow getting more and more excited about college and Xander still away on his road trip, she again believes that she must fight and survive on her own when she discovers a gang of tough vampires operating on campus.

A tentativa de ajustar-se aos rigores da vida na faculdade prova ser mais difícil do que Buffy imaginava. No campus, Willow está super entusiasmada com a sua vida na faculdade e seu firme namoro com Oz, e Xander inesperadamente retorna de sua aventura (mal sucedida) de auto-descoberta. Giles aparenta se divertir com sua nova vida de desempregado, bem diferente da antiga vida de bibliotecário e sentinela.
