Obiettivo di Overland 5 è completare il giro del mondo, rientrando in Italia da Pechino entro il 24 dicembre 1999. A pochi giorni dalla conclusione di Overland 4 nella capitale cinese, la spedizione riprende la strada che la portera attraverso il Sud Est asiatico, l'India, il Pakistan, l'Afghanistan dei Talebani, l'Iran, il mondo arabo, Israele e la martoriata ex Jugoslavia. Overland 5 raggiunge Roma dopo 4 mesi di viaggio e 26.000 km.
