Tony und Doug landen in der Mongolei zur Zeit Dschingis Khans. Mongolische Reiter nehmen die beiden gefangen. Deren Anführer hält sie für Verbündete Marco Polos. Durch Folter will er aus Tony und Doug Informationen herauspressen.
Doug and Tony are captured by the Mongols in 1287, led by Genghis Khan's grandson Baku. Tony is tortured until Doug stages a rescue, where they meet with Marco Polo, who is aiding Kublai Khan. Tony falls in love with Sahib, daughter of Kublai Khan that Polo is aiding and who is kidnapped by Baku. The guys rescue her by using black powder that Polo has discovered in China. When Baku launches an assault on the fort where Polo is staying, the Project staff try and send artillery back to the guys. They thwart an attack on the fort while Tony considers staying with Sahib. In the end she returns to her duty and the two part. Doug provides the necessary ingredient to turn the black powder into gunpowder, while the Project try and send detonator caps to assist them. Tony et Doug arrivent en 1287, et se retrouvent impliqués dans les violents combats opposant les hordes barbares de Mongoles et les troupes de Kubla Khan...
A tatárjárás idején vagyunk, dúl a harc az egyeduralom megszerzéséért Dzsingisz kán örökösei között. Tony és Doug egy ilyen konfliktus kellős közepébe pottyan: Batu kán csapatai elkeseredetten ostromolnak egy erődöt, melyet nem kisebb történelmi személyiség véd, mint Marco Polo. A nagykán kegyét elnyerő olasz utazó bizalmi feladatot kapott: ő felel Kublaj kán lánya, Sarit biztonságáért. S ezzel vívta ki a trónra áhítozó Batu kán haragját, aki a lány kezére pályázik, hiszen ezzel a fríggyel már ő követelhetné magának a nagykán címét. Az előbb mongol fogságba kerülő amerikai tudósok átjutnak Marco Polo táborába, majd sikerül megszöktetniük a Batu fogságába került herceglányt is, aki iránt Tony egyre gyengédebb érzelmeket táplál...
Nel 1287 Doug e Tony vengono catturati dai Mongoli guidati da Batu, il nipote di Gengis Khan. Riusciti a fuggire, si uniscono a Marco Polo, che sta conducendo in salvo la figlia di Kublai Kahn, Sarit. Non appena posa gli occhi su di lei, Tony si innamora perdutamente e la donna ricambia il suo amore, affascinata da questo straniero. Tony confida a Doug di essere stanco di tante avventure e di volersi fermare per sposare Sarit e mettere su famiglia. Doug è allibito, insiste perché Tony si renda conto che il suo presente è il 1978 e che non potrà mai essere felice con una donna che per lui deve essere morta già da secoli. Anche al quartier generale le opinioni divergono. La Dottoressa MacGregor pensa che Tony abbia ragione, mentre il Generale Kirk e il Dottor Swain temono che una simile decisione possa avere conseguenze disastrose...
Tony y Doug se ven atrapados entre las hordas mongólicas del Kublai Khan, siendo confundidos con emisarios de Marco Polo (John Saxon).
