Christine schwebt im siebten Himmel. Sie ist überglücklich mit ihrem neuen Freund Burton. Aber als ihr Ex-Mann Richard den Vorschlag macht, zusammen mit seiner Freundin mit den beiden essen zu gehen, entwickelt sich daraus ein katastrophaler Abend. Richard und Christine schwelgen in alten Erinnerungen, und Burton und die neue Christine kommen sich ziemlich überflüssig vor. Christine macht Richard wegen seines Verhaltens große Vorwürfe, und als Richard zum Ende des Abends auch noch Burton über die Füße fährt, hat sie die Nase endgültig voll. Sie verlangt von Richard, dass sie der neuen Christine und Burton zuliebe ihre Beziehung ändern müssen. Ab sofort müssen die alten Geschichten ad acta gelegt werden, damit die beiden sich auf ihre neuen Beziehungen konzentrieren können.
Richard learns from a gloating Matthew that Christine is out enjoying her fifth date with a new beau, Burton, so he does what any self-respecting ex-husband would do: he sabotages the happy couple's goodnight kiss and insults Burton with lawyer jokes. But when he tries to make it up to them by inviting Christine and Burton to dinner with him and "new" Christine, his best-laid plans go awry.

Christine organizza un brunch a casa sua, invitando Richard e la nuova Christine e due suoi amici, Barb e Pete. Vedendo l’ex marito così affiatato con la sua ragazza, Christine chiede a Barb di combinarle un appuntamento al buio, dopo che per anni lo aveva escluso per la convinzione che due persone devono incontrarsi naturalmente per trovare la magia. Christine fa vari tentativi con molti ragazzi con lei combinati, per poi scoprire che quello giusto lo aveva già incontrato per caso. Nel frattempo Ritchie deve imparare a nuotare, e va in piscina accompagnato dallo zio Matthew; una volta che l’istruttrice chiede ai genitori di entrare in acqua con i propri figli, Matthew si spaventa, perché nemmeno lui ha mai imparato a nuotare, i due quindi prenderanno lezioni insieme.
