Veronica, Challenger, Marguerite, Roxton und Malone sind begierig, von den Errungenschaften einer Welt zu hören, die sie selbst nicht mehr erleben werden. Sie helfen der Familie, den Hubschrauber zu reparieren. Dabei kommt Marguerite der Gedanke, dass sie damit selbst vom Plateau herunterkommen könnten ...
Challenger is trying to harness the energy of lightning when a gigantic bolt splits the sky. In a blinding flash, the ground is scorched, and by some miracle, no one is injured. In the silence after the thunder, the sputtering sound of a small engine is heard, and a small plane appears in the distant sky. It drops from view, crashing into the jungle. All survive: four modern day tourists - a couple, a middle-aged man and a gorgeous young woman. The group are set upon by a hostile tribe and taken prisoner. Our explorers arrive to find only the disabled plane, which Challenger and Malone set about trying to repair. Kenner, the leader of the hostile tribe, is fascinated by his captives but keeps them in a dungeon. Roxton and Veronica devise a plan to save them.
El professor Challenger construeix un molí per generar electricitat aprofitant l'energia del vent. Enmig d'una sobtada tempesta, el molí genera un vòrtex i apareix una extranya llum al cel, que acaba impactant contra l'aerogenerador. La tempesta es dissipa en pocs segons quan de sobte, apareix en l'horitzó un helicòpter que efectua un aterratge d'emergència. Per sorpresa de tothom, surten de l'aparell tres turistes moderns i el pilot, que diuen haver sortit d'un hotel en una excursió turistica, però el més estrany de tot és que asseguren haver-ho fet l'any 2000. Els nostres aventurers els expliquen on són i en quina època es troben i s'enfronten al dilema entre ajudar-los a reparar l'helicòpter i retornar-los allà d'on vingueren o fer servir l'aeronau per poder tornar ells mateixos a casa.
