Kommissar Larosière macht Urlaub am Meer. Dort trifft er auf Joséphine, die ihm ihre Familie vorstellt und ihn zu sich einlädt. Ihre Eltern leben nicht mehr, der Vater hat sich erhängt, weil er verrückt wurde bei der Suche nach einem angeblichen Diamanten, den dessen Vater in dem Haus versteckt haben soll. Außerdem sind noch Joséphines Cousine Eléonore, ihr Bruder Abel, dessen Freundin Suzanne und der Antiquitätenhändler Paul zu Gast.
Larosière verliebt sich in Joséphine, kurz bevor ein Mordanschlag auf sie verübt wird. Larosière fängt natürlich sofort an zu ermitteln.
