Fushimi Castle is destroyed in a massive earthquake before its completion. Masayuki, who had been ordered by Hideyoshi to build the castle, feels he has nothing to live for and becomes depressed. Hideyoshi starts talking about invading the continent again. He also cracks down on Christian missionaries. Tama, with whom Kiri has become friends, faces danger together with other Christians. Hideyoshi's senility only gets worse and creates confusion among Ieyasu and the other daimyos. Nobushige desperately tries to hide Hideyoshi's condition.
大地震に見舞われ、落成を前に伏見城は倒壊してしまう。秀吉(小日向文世)から普請を命じられていた昌幸(草刈正雄)は生きがいを失いふさぎこむ。秀吉は再び大陸へ攻め込むと言い出し、さらにはバテレンへの弾圧を強める。きり(長澤まさみ)が親しくなった玉(橋本マナミ)らキリシタンたちに危機が迫る。秀吉の老いがますます進み、家康(内野聖陽)ら大名たちに混乱を巻き起こす。信繁(堺雅人)らは必死に隠そうとするが…。
