Mendicant Orders (12th - 16th Cent.)

The church of Santa Maria in Via, Rome , is considered a " little Lourdes " : the Romans , in fact , they come here to drink water from the Well of the Blessed Virgin . Retracing the history of this miracle allows you to make a journey in the history of the Church of the Middle Ages : the heresy, the Crusades and the courageous choice of saints like Dominic , Francis of Assisi , the seven lay Florentine Servite, who founded the mendicant orders of the thirteenth century. To guide us in this journey the famous historian Franco Cardini, a leading authority on medieval history , which in a real keynote explains the reasons that led one of the main movements of these heretics , the Cathars , to take over Christian Europe . P.Franco Azzalli O.S.M. and Father Antonio Cocolicchio O.P. help us to get into the heart of these saints , a strong Marian devotion that in these times is at its best , have supported the Church, as well depicted in the famous fresco by Giotto in the dream of Innocent III , painted in the upper Basilica of Assisi .
