While Yoichi is trying to think of what to do to get Takizawa to forge a knife for him, he receives a challenge from Shokichi. Takizawa will be the judge, and whoever loses the chawanmushi contest will have to give up the knife.

滝沢老人に包丁を打ってもらうにはどうすればよいか悩む陽一に、章吉から挑戦状が届く。滝沢を審判とし、茶碗蒸し勝負で負けたほうが包丁から手を引くという条件だ。陽一は章吉を超える茶碗蒸しを作ろうとするが…。
