Eine Routine-Geschäftsreise nach Los Angeles hat romantische Konsequenzen für Privatdetektiv Thomas Magnum: Er verliebt sich in die attraktive Anwältin Cynthia Farrell. Thomas arrives in Los Angeles to deliver lawsuit papers to a small film company on behalf of Robin Masters, and during the trip befriends a stand-up comedienne. But when he finds her murdered in his hotel room, he investigates to find who is behind the killing. When he goes to deliver the subpoena to the film company, he strikes up a relationship with the attractive young attorney, and the pair work together to find the murderers... Meanwhile back in Hawaii, one of the players on T.C.'s baseball team is mixed up with some small time car thieves, who witnesses his friends being shot dead after stealing a car...
Magnum se rend à Los Angeles afin d'apporter des documents au nom de Robin Masters à Cynthia Farrell, une juriste engagée par une maison de production cinématographique. Mais Magnum se retrouve bien vite en train d'enquêter sur le meurtre de Marti, une jeune comédienne assassinée dans sa chambre d'hôtel. Pendant ce temps, à Hawaï, Rick, T.C. et Higgins recherchent Kenny, un adolescent membre de l'équipe de baseball de T.C., qui a été témoin du meurtre de deux de ses amis...
Thomas arriva a Los Angeles per consegnare dei documenti a una compagnia cinematografica per conto di Robin Masters. Durante il viaggio fa amicizia con una ragazza che però ritrova assassinata nella sua camera d'albergo. Thomas si mette in cerca del killer insieme all'affascinante avvocatessa della compagnia cinematografica. Nel frattempo alle Hawai, uno dei giocatori della squadra di baseball di T.C., rimane coinvolto in un traffico di auto rubate ed assiste all'omicidio di alcuni amici dopo aver rubato un'automobile.
