Die sechzehnjährige Jennifer During aus Montreal macht mit ihrer Klasse einen Ausflug nach New York City. An einem Abend geht sie zusammen mit Ihrer Freundin in einen Club und trifft dort auf ihre Cousins Nick Pratt, Doug Waverly und Jason King. Nick und Doug wollen, dass Jason seine Jungfräulichkeit verliert und Jennifer hat nichts dagegen, sich mit ihm in seinem Wagen zu vergnügen. Doch hinterher wird sie von Nick und Doug vergewaltigt. Als sie wenig später in ihr Hotel zurückkommt, telefoniert sie sofort mit ihrer Freundin, um ihr alles zu erzählen. Kurz darauf verlässt sie das Hotel wieder, von diesem Zeitpunkt an fehlt von Jennifer jegliche Spur. Die Polizei verhaftet die drei Jungs, kann ihnen aber nichts nachweisen. Außerdem wird Jennifers Leiche nicht aufgefunden. Doch unerwartet meldet sich Jason bei den Ermittlern der SVU und gesteht, dass Nick und Doug damit gedroht hätten, Jennifer umzubringen. Jason hat schreckliche Angst, weil er seine Cousins verraten hat und seine Eltern bringen ihn an einen sicheren Ort. Doch Nick und Doug finden raus, wo er sich versteckt hält und entführen ihn. Vor Gericht werden die beiden freigesprochen, da die Polizei weder Jennifer noch Jason finden konnte. Erst als einige Zeit später die Leiche von Jason King an einem Flussufer angespült wird, kann den beiden jungen Männern der Prozess gemacht werden.

Doug Waverly and Nick Pratt are charged with rape and murder in the disappearance of Canadian student Jennifer Durning after Nick's cousin, Jason King, claims that while he had consensual sex with her that night the other two raped her. A stray pubic hair leads Novak to Keith Willis, a drunk who was paid off by the boys to get Jennifer out of the hotel and who later saw the boys kidnap her, but Willis exactly fit to be a witness as his mind has gone after years of alcohol abuse. Jason King disappears. Although they are able to find a bug in Donnelly's office, they are not able to prove that it was placed there by Pratt or Waverly. Judge Donnelly is forced to dismiss the case against the two boys since there is no case without Jason's testimony.
