At the time of King Sung Jong in 1482, a deputy officer delivers the order from the King to bestow poison on deposed Queen Yoon as a death penalty. Chief civil administration officer Lee, SeJoa and Royal Military Guard Seo, ChunSoo visit deposed queen Yoon’s house to execute the death sentence. 때는 1482년(성종13년). 내금위 훈련장에 서리 복장을 한 서리 하나가 급히 뛰어와 폐비에게 사약을 내리라는 어명을 알리고, 종사관을 비롯한 군관들의 얼굴이 창백해진다.
좌승지 이세좌와 군관 서천수는 폐비윤씨의 생가로 가 어명대로 폐비윤씨에게 사약을 내린다. 폐비윤씨는 "오늘 너희의 이 짓거리는 똑같이 너희들에게 돌아갈 것이다."라는 말을 남기고 죽어간다.
천수는 밤에 산길을 걷다가 발을 헛디뎌 벼랑으로 떨어지는 사고를 당하고, 자신을 구해준 도사에게 우연히 자신의 운명에 대한 이야기를 듣게된다. 사약을 받은 폐비윤씨로 인해 자신이 죽게 된다는 말에 천수는 말문이 턱 막히고 갈수록 근심이 싸여만 간다.
세월이 흘러 1496년(연산군 2년). 기미상궁의 직무실로 찾아온 나인 박씨(김혜선)는 기미상궁에게 나인 최씨(견미리)의 이상한 행동을 보고를 한다. 하지만 나인 박씨는 수랏간 실세 최씨 집안의 음모에 휘말려 음란죄로 몰리고 강제로 독약을 먹고 산에 버려진다. 산에 버려진 나인 박씨(김혜선)는 군직을 그만두고 낙향하던 서천수(박찬환)에 의해 목숨을 건지게 된다. 박나인은 천수에게 고마움의 표시를 하고 암자를 떠난다. 천수는 박나인의 뛰를 몰래 따라가는데...
