Unter mysteriösen Umständen kommt nachts der Bankangestellte Carson Briggs ums Leben. Gleichzeitig sieht der schlafende Liam im Traum, wie Briggs von einer bläulich schimmernden Erscheinung gejagt und getötet wird. Mit Liams Hilfe findet die Polizei am nächsten Tag Briggs' Ring, dessen Motiv dem Logo der Bank nachempfunden ist, aber auch als alte Taelon-Hieroglyphe als "Unreinheit" gelesen werden kann. Kurz nachdem Zo'or Sandoval anweist, die Untersuchung schnell abzuschließen, hat er ebenfalls eine Begegnung mit der mysteriösen Erscheinung.
Auch Liam sieht das blaue Licht, als er sich in Briggs' Haus umsieht. Dann nimmt die Erscheinung die Form des toten Taelons Ku'don an. Er bringt mühsam das Wort "Exil" hervor und verschwindet dann wieder. Von Da'an erfährt Liam Einzelheiten über das spirituelle Leben der Taelons nach dem Tod. Dazu gehört, dass ein Taelon, der seinen Geist mit Geld "verunreinigt" hat, für immer aus der Gemeinschaft ausgeschlossen wird. Kurz darauf erfährt Da'an von Zo'ors blasphemischer Geldgier. Ku'don war als Buchhalter an den geheimen Geschäften Zo'ors beteiligt. Nun kann sein Geist nicht ruhen. Erneut greift er Zo'or an.
While Carson Briggs works overtime at the New World Commonwealth Bank, a hopeless cry introduces a blue light that swirls around him. The energy light chases and tortures Carson, pushing him onto the floor. The energy whirls in circular motions around Carson, setting him on fire. At the same time, Liam dreams of the exact horrifying events that Carson experiences. Liam goes to the death scene. Recalling the events of his dream to a investigater, he offers a piece of evidence that had not yet recovered - Carson's ring, which designed with the bank's logo and the ancient Taelon symbol for impurity. At Carson's home, Liam discovers circular burn marks throughout the house. The blue energy appears, which leads Liam to a Taelon datalog.
