The first leg of the journey starts on the Atlantic shore, exploring the Costa Verde, one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country. But it’s not long until the bus crosses into Mato Grasso, the agricultural heart of Brazil, where soy fields and sugar cane plantations dominate the landscape.
The region is also the home of the rodeo, a regular event in the villages along the Transoceânica route. We even find female rodeo riders here in spite of all the cultural prejudices.

Die peruanische Busfirma Expreso Ormeño ist spezialisiert auf lange Routen. Die Verbindung von Rio de Janeiro bis nach Lima wurde erst 2010 möglich, erst dann wurde das letzte Teilstück der Transoceânica in Peru fertig gestellt. Die wichtigsten Fahrgäste des Busunternehmens sind Peruaner und Bolivianer, die in den brasilianischen Metropolen arbeiten. Die Tickets sind günstiger als Flugreisen: Umgerechnet 200 Euro kostet die gesamte Strecke. Auf seiner Fahrt passiert der Bus zunächst die Costa Verde - eine der schönsten Küsten des Landes. Hier trifft das brasilianische Bergland auf den Atlantik. 24 Stunden später fahren die Passagiere durch den Sojastaat Matto Grosso - das Herzstück des brasilianischen Agrobusiness.
