Auch Son-Goku gewinnt seinen ersten Kampf mühelos. Danach kämpft Jackie Chun alias Muten-Roshi gegen den Bären und schlägt ihn nach einem einzigen Schlag KO. In einer Pause zwischen den Kämpfen kommt es zur Konfrontation zwischen Yamchu und Tenshinhan, die handgreiflich zu werden droht, bis der alten Jackie Chun beschwichtigend eingreift. Son-Goku trifft Nam wieder. Kurz darauf verliert Nam seinen Vorundenkampf gegen Tenshinhan. Wieder erweist sich Tenshinhan als erstklassiger, aber auch als brutaler Kämpfer. Am Schluß der Vorrunde sind sowohl Jackie Chun als auch alle seine Schüler für die Finalkämpfe qualifiziert. Aber auch die Schüler des Herrn der Kraniche haben sich durchgesetzt.
In his first match of the preliminaries, Goku coincidentially gets one of the most dangerous opponents in the world, King Chappa. He is said to be the single greatest warrior of his time, once winning the World Martial Arts Tournament without his opponents laying a single hand on him! Goku has an uncanny smirk, not affected by the rumors.
Ready! Set! Go! Goku gets in the first punch and has King Chappa eating his words. It seems Goku is no ordinary child. Things heat up and the two show no mercy. Finally, one of Goku's combos get through and knock the legendary King Chappa down. But judging from his angry roar, he isn't happy!!! King Chappa is about to use his pantented eight-handed technique. Nicknamed, for it is so quick-his onslaught appears to be comprised of eight hands! Malgré les techniques de son adversaire, Son Goku remporte facilement son combat. Jacky Chun se rend compte que Son Goku le surpasse désormais. Lui aussi remporte facilement son combat. Après d'autres combats remportés par nos héros, c'est l'heure de la pause déjeuner. Une nouvelle altercation entre Yamcha et Ten Shin Han a lieu mais Jacky Chun empêche le combat d'avoir lieu. Peu après nos héros constate que Nam est également présent pour ce tournoi. Malheureusement pour ce dernier il est éliminé par Ten Shin Han qui lui inflige de graves blessures. Cela met Son Goku hors de lui et la encore Jacky Chun calme un de ses élèves.
Durante le eliminatorie Goku si trova di fronte il temibile avversario Re Chapa (King Pasha), conosciuto per avere vinto un torneo Tenkaichi senza essere toccato da nessun combattente. Il ragazzino però non si intimorisce e sconfigge facilmente l'uomo, contrastando addirittura il famoso colpo delle otto mani di Re Chapa. Durante una pausa Tenshinhan fa il prepotente con il cuoco del locale, facendo adirare Yamcha; fortunatamente l'arrivo Jackie Chun e Nam calmerà i ragazzi. Continuano le eliminatorie e tutti gli allievi di Muten si qualificano: soltanto Nam subisce una violenta sconfitta a opera di Tenshinhan durante l'ultimo scontro di qualifica.
Goku es mucho más rápido y más fuerte que el Rey Chappa, y le gana sin problemas. Jackie Chun entra entonces en lucha, y aunque es completamente distraído con los pensamientos de una nueva fuerza de Goku, derrota a su oponente con un solo golpe. La ronda preliminar continuará después de un breve receso. Durante la comida, Yamcha y TenShinHan están a punto de entrar en una pelea, pero una vez más, Jackie Chun se lo impide. Nam, participante de la anterior edición del Torneo aparece para luchar, esta vez por diversión. En la ronda de selección final, Nam es derrotado violentamente por Ten Shin Han. Goku, Krilin, Yamcha y Jackie Chun son proclamados finalistas, junto con los dos discípulos del Maestro Cuervo.
