The fox-hunt fiasco becomes noisy, with a very drunken Bert and Jack urging Bert's dog, Boomer, on the trail of what they think is the fox, but is in fact Derek. Mavis sees the fox in her yard, and rushes out, banging on a saucepan to frighten it away. When Derek arrives home, Bert and Co. are not far behind, and when Bert tries to climb the fence, Mavis clocks him one with the saucepan. Next day, the Wiltons confess to Jack what had happened. Emily comes home from a hospital visit looking worried. Vera receives a phone call from her sister, and learns that their mother has died. Phil Jennings moves in as a lodger at the Rovers', but has not told Deirdre of this development.
