In the present day, Dan is encountered by a boy named Magnus. Dan's Bakugan, Drago, tells Dan that they've been challenged to a battle. Dan looks at this red ball and throws it, which transforms into a dragon-like creature - a Bakugan. believes they should tell everyone the BakuCores and Bakugan, they should post their discoveries online, but apparently, they weren’t the only kids who found Bakugan who found at night, adults couldn’t open them though.
When the local Burger Joint is being threatened by a rogue Bakugan, Dan steps up to save the day and the burgers! Later at the burger joint, Dan is there with Lia and Wynton. Dan talks about how he stopped the antics of the Rowdy Reds. Rowdy Reds challenge Dan to a battle.
The AO must handle a neighborhood bully who is using his Bakugan to pick on the local kids. Wynton's constant practical jokes wear thin on his Bakugan Trox so the Bakugan decide to teach him a lesson.

When the AO report that they've been fighting the wrong fight, they discover that Benton has been corrupted by the villainous Tiko. The AO are forced to turn to Philomena Dusk for help, only to realize that they have led Benton/Tiko right to the AAAnimus Campus.
Benton misled the public about the V Virus Bakugan going on a rampage due to "negligence". This resulted in outcries by adults and caused Philomena replaced by Benton. The AO disguise their IP and post the video that the Bakugan and humans can coexist. Dan decides that they need to meet with everyone they know to cheer them up.
Lia battles with China Riot Benton/Tiko. China Riot has joined the AO in their secret treehouse, but they discover that they cannot see any Core Cell location, Tiko has controlled and jammed the signals so they won't remove the connectors.
Masato attacks, but the AO soon realize that Ichiro is keeping a Golden Bakugan captive. Then, Shun makes an impassioned plea to Ichiro, but it is too late as the Kazami compound is overrun by Bakuzon and the Visvus Cell is lost.
Abandoned in the Vestroia Labyrinth, the AO must deal with their personal losses. Then, when the AO and Magnus form an alliance to free the Golden Bakugan, their differences lead to a horrible sacrifice for Dan and Lia.
As the AO struggle to hold together, a discovery is made involving the Golden Bakugan. Then, while Dan and Drago enter the Golden Drome to heal Trhyno, the rest of the AO defend the Golden Drome from a militia.
As Dan and Drago battle to free Trhyno from Tiko's infection, they learn the history of Vestroia.
When Shun and Lia track down Ichiro and Masato on their quest for more allies, they are forced to battle a Bakuzoned Ichiro! Then, Shun, Lia and Masato must square off against the Dusk Forces.
As the Dusk Forces storm the Numena Core Cell, infighting between the Awesome Ones and their allies threatens to tear them all apart. Then, Tiko/Dusk Forces have joined into global power and are waging an assault on the Numena Core Cell.
The final showdown between Tiko and AO with the future of Earth and Vestroia in balance. Then, The Awesome Ones return home as heroes, wondering what battles await them in the future.
