    • Gaia

This Common Ground interview of Thich Nhat Hanh begins with a brief biography of his life including his movements between Vietnam and the United States during the Vietnam War. Joined by such forces as Martin Luther King, Jr and Thomas Merton, Thich Nhat Hanh spoke openly about the harm caused to innocent people in his home country and the need to end war, which ultimately led to his exile from Vietnam. He settled in France and established Plum Village where he continues to teach the practices of mindfulness to bring peace to our hearts and the world. Chantal Westerman interviews Thich Nhat Hanh who shares his insight on mindful walking, mindful eating, and mindful breathing. His core teaching is that all human beings can find peace and joy by living more mindfully.Sister Annabel of Green Mountain Dharma Center says although the teachings are simple and our intellect wants to reject them, they are effective. She says to start with loving, knowing and understanding yourself. From there you will embrace your darkness and move to a place of joy and peace, like the lotus that grows out of the mud.

  • S01E02 Power of Peace: Peace in Our Schools

    • Gaia

If we are to reach real peace in the world it will have to begin with the children. Children are too frequently the victims of violence from adults and from each other, and this occurs to an even greater degree among disadvantaged young people. Violence in all its forms has a huge impact on education, but violence is preventable, and in classrooms and in communities around the world new and determined voices are being heard.Educators, students, community activists and religious leaders joined Nobel Peace Prize laureates in an extraordinary conference on violence, in which participants exchanged ideas and strategies to transform our violent world into a more peaceful one. This documentary draws on those participants, with wisdom, for example, from the Dalai Lama, Daniel Goleman, Yolanda King, and so many others, all striving to save our children. Join host Uma Thurman as we engage the Power of Peace to create Peace in Our Schools.

  • S01E06 Power of Silence

    • Gaia

Noise is all around us, all the time, just about everywhere. Sounds can affect our moods and bodies in ways we may be completely unaware of. Unwanted sounds could cost us more than our hearing; it could cost us our lives. It is practically impossible to find a truly silent place, anywhere in the world. Meditation, whether it is sitting in silence, eating in silence, or walking in silence can help a person to be present, fully, with the body and mind united in peace. Different spiritual leaders speak about the power of silence with healing, centering, focusing and improving one’s over all being.
