  • S2018E24 Green Lantern

    • May 16, 2018
    • YouTube

Long before Ryan Reynolds squeezed into the red spandex to play Wade Wilson in Deadpool and Deadpool 2 he starred in 2011’s Green Lantern… which bombed pretty hard. The movie was supposed to be the start of a DC film universe in order to compete with Marvel, but it fell on its face and Warner Bros tried again a few years later with Man of Steel. So what went wrong with Green Lantern? Why did the movie with the talent of Ryan Reynolds, Taika Waititi, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and more get so panned by critics and fans? Why was Parallax a CLOUD?! Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all!

  • S2018E25 X-Men Origins: Wolverine

    • May 19, 2018
    • YouTube

Did you ever wonder what in the world the studio was thinking when they created Deadpool for X-Men Origins: Wolverine? So were we! So we stepped into the pitch meeting that started it all, and broke down the entire thought process behind the movie to answer all the questions we know you've been asking yourselves for years. How does Deadpool bend his arms with two giant swords embedded in them? What is Wolverine's relationship with Striker and why did he allow him to experiment on him with adamantium? And perhaps most importantly, where did Wolverine get that TIGHT leather jacket?!

  • S2018E26 Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

    • May 23, 2018
    • YouTube

Star Wars has come a long way since the original trilogy, and most people really like the new films following Rey, as well as the standalone prequel films that Lucasfilm has been putting out. But in order to get here, we had to go through a painful prequel trilogy in the late 90s and early 2000s. George Lucas took us on a CGI-filled ride and not everyone liked it. How did the prequel trilogy go so wrong? Why is it so focused on politics? Why does Jar Jar Binks exist? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all!

  • S2018E27 Deadpool 2

    • May 26, 2018
    • YouTube

Deadpool 2 is out and people seem to really enjoy the return of Wade Wilson, The Merc With A Mouth. But can one joke about lazy writing make all the silly stuff about the movie’s plot okay? The answer of course is yes. Step inside the pitch meeting that lead to some of the weirdest moments of Deadpool 2 and some Juggernaut-sized plot holes.

  • S2018E28 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

    • May 30, 2018
    • YouTube

Disney seems to be in full-on Star Wars mode, releasing a new movie every year since The Force Awakens in 2015. 2016 brought us Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that followed Jyn Erso and her crew of Rebels as they tried to steal the plans to the Death Star. But how exactly did that movie come to be? How did they settle on making a movie about a little line in the text crawl for A New Hope? What about bringing Peter Cushing back from the dead via CGI? Why does every character die in an explosion? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all.

  • S2018E29 Solo: A Star Wars Story

    • June 2, 2018
    • YouTube

Solo: A Star Wars Story is in theaters, proving that Disney is committed to popping out Star Wars movie after Star Wars movie. The movie follows Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, Qi’Ra and more characters as they go on a bunch of heists and fly around in the Millenium Falcon. But how exactly did this movie come to be? Why did they have to give an origin to everything Han Solo has ever done? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all.

  • S2018E30 Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

    • June 6, 2018
    • YouTube

Smelling what The Rock is cooking is TIGHT! Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of the biggest movie stars working today (quite literally.) But what if somebody had never heard of him? How would you pitch him and describe his career? Would you mentioned that he’s done kind of a lot of JUNGLE movies (Jumanji, The Rundown, Journey 2) or movies where buildings fall (Skyscraper, San Andreas) -- or maybe movies where jungle animals make buildings fall (Rampage)? What about his similar kids movies, or his movies with Kevin Hart? Step inside a pitch meeting where an agent tries to pitch Dwayne Johnson to a studio exec from Disney!

  • S2018E31 Jurassic Park

    • June 9, 2018
    • YouTube

Ever wonder how Jurassic Park came to be? What was up with John Hammond being the worst person in the world. Or with the sudden 50 foot drop in the T-Rex enclosure-- or the super easy barely an inconvenience arrival of the ninja T-Rex to save the day from a group of raptors? Step inside the pitch meeting that led to multiple sequels and a new reboot ‘Jurassic World’ starring Chris Pratt!

  • S2018E32 Sausage Party

    • June 13, 2018
    • YouTube

Ever wonder how Seth Rogen’s insane animated comedy Sausage Party came to be? How was an R-Rated movie about talking sausages and food items approved by Hollywood. What are the two kinds of jokes that Rogen decided to go with? What’s up with the Great Beyond-- what is it a metaphor for? Why did they allow food to be ruined for us for eternity? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all!

  • S2018E33 The Lego Movie

    • June 16, 2018
    • YouTube

How did The Lego Movie come to be, let alone become a critically acclaimed hit? Is the entire movie just one big commercial and product placement? You bet it is! Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all, and launched the entire LEGO movie universe-- securing some voice acting work for Chris Pratt, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman for years to come!

  • S2018E34 The Walking Dead

    • June 20, 2018
    • YouTube

The Walking Dead is one of the most popular shows in television history, but despite cool characters like Rick, Carl, Daryl and Michonne, as well as a bunch of awesome zombies (sorry, walkers!) the show has started to struggle. Some fans are getting tired of the repetitive storylines, the constant mid-season and end-of-season cliffhangers--- and this whole mess with Negan just isn’t as satisfying as some earlier seasons. But what if all of that was by design? Step inside the offices of AMC for the pitch meeting that started it all!

  • S2018E35 Harry Potter Movie Franchise

    • June 23, 2018
    • YouTube

Harry Potter is one of the most beloved franchises of all time, based on one of the most beloved book series of all time. The world of wizardry is pretty insane when you take a step back and try to explain it, and that’s exactly what (probably) happened during the pitch meeting to Warner Bros. What’s up with Quidditch? The Time Turner? Why do students get sent into the FORBIDDEN Forest? Why is everything so dangerous, and why does Voldemort suck at planning? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all.

  • S2018E36 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

    • June 27, 2018
    • YouTube

Jurassic World was a massive box office hit in 2016, so naturally we now have a sequel. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom sees Chris Pratt and his character Animal-Loving-Navy-Guy reunite with Bryce Dallas Howard’s Money-Lady (who is now Dinosaur Loving Lady, because reasons) They head back to Isla Nubar to save the dinos from a giant volcano that’s about to erupt. Kind of a big oversight for John Hammond to have built Jurassic Park on a volcano, but whatever! There are a lot of plot holes and questionable decisions into Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom - and we’d like to think they all originated from the pitch meeting itself! So step inside the pitch meeting that led to the latest installment in the Jurassic Park franchise.

  • S2018E37 The Incredibles 2

    • June 30, 2018
    • YouTube

After 14 years, an Incredibles sequel is finally here. It was great to catch up with Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Dash, Violet, Frozone and especially Jack Jack. Incredibles 2 had some amazing action, incredible VFX and some pretty hilarious moments. But since this is Hollywood and nothing is perfect, there were also a couple of things about it that didn’t make too much sense. Like what was up with Winston and Elevyn Deavor? How come the movie had pretty much the same premise as the first one? Why did they just re-do Violet’s arc from the first movie, and what’s up with Dash and buttons? Let’s step inside the pitch meeting that started it all!

  • S2018E38 Chris Pratt

    • July 4, 2018
    • YouTube

What if you had to explain the success of Chris Pratt to someone who had never heard of him? The superstar has had a pretty great career, but before stepping into the MCU as Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and the Avengers, he actually spent a whole lot of time playing lovable dummies on TV -- not to mention living in a van in Hawaii. Check out his agent describing everything the actor has done and his massive weight gains and losses throughout the years. Will the movie executive cast him in something new? It WOULD be super easy, barely an inconvenience if he did!

  • S2018E39 Ant-Man And The Wasp

    • July 7, 2018
    • YouTube

Ant-Man and the Wasp is Marvel’s first film to come out after the insanity that was Avengers: Infinity War just a few months ago. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena and Michael Douglas provide us with some pretty hilarious moments and action scenes in this sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man… just don’t think about it too much. The quantum realm is the latest plot tool that Marvel is throwing our way after the magical Vibranium in Black Panther and the millions of timelines in Infinity War. How did this movie come to be exactly? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all.

  • S2018E40 Game of Thrones

    • July 11, 2018
    • YouTube

Game of Thrones on HBO is one of the most popular shows in television history based on the massively successful book series A Song of Ice And Fire by George RR Martin. Fans can't wait to see what lies in store for Season 8-- will Jon and Danearys realize that they're related? Will someone finally take down Cersei? How much damage is the Night King going to inflict with that ice dragon. Despite the shows popularity though it's not without its flaws. Especially in recent seasons the show has gone off the rails a little bit-- and we'd like to think that could be traced back to the pitch meeting for that stated it all!

  • S2018E41 The Big Bang Theory

    • July 14, 2018
    • YouTube

After more than a decade on TV, The Big Bang Theory is still one of the most popular comedies in the world. Week after week, people tune in to see the nerdy and QUIRKY antics of Sheldon, Leonard, Raj and Howard, coupled up with the funny reactions of Penny, Bernadette and Amy. But is the show actually smart, or is it just pretending to be? What are we actually supposed to be laughing at? What’s up with that insane laugh track?

  • S2018E42 Iron Man

    • July 18, 2018
    • YouTube

Step into the Pitch Meeting that started Iron Man (and Marvel's Cinematic Universe!)

  • S2018E43 The Dark Knight

    • July 21, 2018
    • YouTube

It’s been 10 years since The Dark Knight hit theaters and Heath Ledger blew everyone away with his portrayal of The Joker. Christian Bale’s Batman growl has now become iconic, as have many other moments from Christopher Nolan’s hit film that changed the superhero genre forever. But what about the sillier moments of The Dark Knight? How were both Bruce Wayne and Rachel Dawes totally fine after being thrown from a high-rise building? What’s up with Harvey Dent AKA Two-Face not being able to recognize The Joker just because his mouth was covered?

  • S2018E44 Guardians of the Galaxy

    • July 25, 2018
    • YouTube

James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy might be in the headlines these days for very different reasons, but just a few years ago they were introduced to the world and helped turn Chris Pratt into a global phenomenon. People instantly fell in love with Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord as well as Gamora, Drax, Rocket and of course Groot. Although we all know and love these Marvel characters now, can you imagine how weird it must have been to actually pitch the first movie? A talking tree that just says his own name? A foul-mouthed gun-toting racoon?

  • S2018E45 Man Of Steel

    • July 28, 2018
    • YouTube

After Man Of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice led the DCEU down a super serious and gritty path, Warner Bros has been looking to mix things up a bit with a lighter Justice League, a charming Wonder Woman and the upcoming Aquaman and Shazam movies. But why did the DC Extended Universe head down such a dark path in the first place. Were they really trying to capture the essence of The Dark Knight but with a much more colorful character? What’s up with all the strange decisions that the Kryptonians, Pa Kent and Superman himself make?

  • S2018E46 Iron Man 2

    • August 1, 2018
    • YouTube

Step into the Pitch Meeting that started Marvel's Iron Man 2!

  • S2018E47 Mission: Impossible Franchise

    • August 4, 2018
    • YouTube

Tom Cruise has been playing the role of super-spy Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible since all the way back in 1996. With over two decades of crazy stunts and epic action scenes, there have also been some weird decisions made by the filmmakers. What was up with all the slow motion and doves in mission impossible 2? Why did they bring Jeremy Renner on board? What's up with Henry Cavill reloading his arms?

  • S2018E48 Tom Cruise

    • August 8, 2018
    • YouTube

Tom Cruise is one of the most popular actors in the world. From Top Gun, to Mission Impossible to Jack Reacher and A Few Good Men and other classics, he’s definitely made his mark on Hollywood. But how would you explain him to somebody who’s never heard of him? He plays hot shots kind of a lot? For some reason he insists on doing his own stunts. He has the laugh of a crazy person and is a leading member of Scientology?

  • S2018E49 Teen Titans Go! To The Movies

    • August 11, 2018
    • YouTube

With so many superhero movies out there now, it’s only fair that Teen Titans Go! Gets their own shot on the big screen (although some would argue that Teen Titans deserved it more.) The movie features a star-studded voice cast including Nicolas Cage, Will Arnett, Kristen Bell and more. But what’s up with the movie itself? Why is the plot so thin? How does it BARELY qualify as a feature film? Why are there SO MANY poop jokes?

  • S2018E50 The Incredible Hulk

    • August 15, 2018
    • YouTube

Step into the Pitch Meeting that started the MCU's Incredible Hulk movie!

  • S2018E51 Hotel Transylvania

    • August 18, 2018
    • YouTube

Hotel Transylvania 3 hit theaters recently… That means that Dracula, Mavis, Jonathan and the gang are at it again for some new monstrous adventures. But how did this Adam Sandler franchise come to be? How come the entire premise falls apart once you start asking a couple of basic questions, like why do the monsters have money, what’s up with Frankenstein’s fear of fear, or everyone’s fear of humans for that matter?

  • S2018E52 Rick and Morty

    • August 22, 2018
    • YouTube

Rick and Morty from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland is one of the most popular shows on TV right now. Some members of the Rick and Morty fanbase are pretty much crazy, so we thought we’d step inside the pitch meeting that led to the hit Adult Swim animated show. What’s up with Rick Sanchez and his constant use of portal guns? Why is everything solved with portal guns or random inter-dimensional devices. Why is the show so very meta? Why did the Honest Trailers guys say “Super Easy Barely An Inconvenience” in their Deadpool 2 video?

  • S2018E53 Thor

    • August 25, 2018
    • YouTube

Before the MCU was the absolute beast that it is today, Marvel was popping out little origin movies for characters as a lead up to the first Avengers movie. With the first Thor movie, they took us on a very tilted adventure to Asgard and introduced the God of Thunder, played by Chris Hemsworth. Although it was a fun time, there were a lot of weird decisions that must have gone into making the movie. What was Loki’s plan exactly? Why did Odin make such weird decisions? What’s up with Jane and Thor immediately falling in love for no apparent reason?

  • S2018E54 Wreck-It Ralph

    • August 29, 2018
    • YouTube

Kind of like a Toy Story for a new generation (as long as you don’t think about it too much) Wreck-It Ralph was a smash hit when it came out in 2012. With the sequel ‘Ralph Breaks The Internet’ hitting theaters soon, we thought we’d take a look back at the weird decisions that probably led to the first film! Like why is the logic tying the video games together so flimsy? Why is King Candy basically a clone of Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. How come the movie does a 180 half-through through and starts making candy-based jokes instead of the video game jokes we were promised?

  • S2018E55 Captain America: The First Avenger

    • September 1, 2018
    • YouTube

Step into the pitch meeting that started Captain America: The First Avenger!

  • S2018E56 Avatar

    • September 5, 2018
    • YouTube

James Cameron’s Avatar took the world by storm in 2009, securing its spot as one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Isn’t it kind of weird then that it barely seems to have had any impact on pop culture? To find out why that is, let’s step inside the pitch meeting that led to the world of Pandora, the Na’vi, and a whooooole lot of thinly veiled racial stereotypes. What led to the decision to have giant blue kitty kats? Why don’t the multi-million dollar Avatars have ANY tracking capabilities? What’s up with the super generic villain?

  • S2018E57 Iron Man 3

    • September 8, 2018
    • YouTube

Coming hot off the worldwide phenomenon that was the first Avengers movie, fans were super pumped to see Tony Stark in action once more in Iron Man 3. What they got was a movie where Tony deals with panic attacks and barely suits up and an iconic comic book villain turned into a plot twist. But at least expectations were subverted, right? Step into the pitch meeting that led to the third installment in the Iron Man franchise and led Marvel to be like “yeah maybe let’s just put Tony in other people’s movies from now on.” Also, where were the Avengers during this movie?

  • S2018E61 The Meg

    • September 22, 2018
    • YouTube

JAWS really set the bar high for shark movies back in 1975, and THE MEG tries to bring the shark genre into a new generation. It does this by basically having Jason Statham fight a 70 foot long prehistoric Megalodon shark in hand-to-hand combat. With a description like that, how did this movie manage to drop the ball? Why did the whole basis of his character make no sense? How did he “see” a giant shark BEFORE it was set free from the Mariana Trench? Why don’t we get to see a shark for like 45 minutes of the movie? Why does it feel like a high budget version of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus or Sharknado?

  • S2018E62 The Predator

    • September 26, 2018
    • YouTube

1987’s Predator film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is a classic in its genre, and Hollywood has been trying to squeeze more money out of the franchise for years. The latest attempt is called ‘The Predator’ and it stars Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn. A LOT of questionable decisions went into making this movie. Why does that Predator want to help humans. What’s up with the weird global warming message and Super Predators? Why does shooting a Predator dog in the head make it your best friend?

Steven Spielberg ventured into the world of Virtual Reality with Ready Player One this year, bringing us into the OASIS. Wade AKA Parzival teamed up with Olivia AKA Art3mis to take on the big bad guys from I.O.I in order to go on an Easter Egg hunt. This movie raises a WHOLE lot of questions. What’s up with the inconsistent VR tech? Why did Halliday try to get people to go into the real world by making them dive into the world of VR? What’s up with the thousands of pop culture references? Why are I.O.I. and Nolan Sorento considered super evil when the OASIS is ALREADY profiting off of gamers and taking over their lives?

The Nun is a spin-off of a sequel, so right off the bat you KNOW it’s gonna be good. Based on the popular Conjuring series by James Wan, the Nun takes us to Romania in 1952 to show us the origin story of… you guessed it-- The Nun. Sister Irene, Father Burke and Frenchie spend an unnecessary amount of time investigating the suicide of a nun as an EVIL nun plays super spooky pranks on them, but doesn’t kill them for some reason.

Coraline is the perfect movie for children. If your children enjoy movies where terrifying spider-needle-ladies want to rip your eyes out and replace them with buttons-- then trap your soul in their evil magic realm for so long you forget who you are. In terms of kids movies, Coraline is pretty much at the top of the list of the creepiest out there. So how did the movie come to be? Why is it is so weird and creepy? What’s up with Other Mother agreeing to vague plot device games? Or creating entities that have free will and an understanding of good and evil?

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 was such a disaster that the character has already been rebooted twice since the movie came out in 2007. From emo Spider-Man to Eric Foreman playing Venom, the superhero film was chock full of strange decisions from the filmmakers. What’s up with Sandman getting a free pass? Or Peter Parker dancing in the street to no music? Or that crazy church scene?

Venom starring Tom Hardy is dividing critics and audiences. While most this incarnation of the character is a big step up from the Spider-man 3 version, the movie definitely has its weird elements. What's up with Eddie Brock being invited to the lab by that scientist? Why did the Riot symbiote wander around Malaysia for six months? What the hell happened during that final fight?

LOGAN was apparently Hugh Jackman’s last outing as his iconic character Wolverine. Whether or not that ends up being true, it certainly seems like the movie wrapped up the storyline of the most popular member of the X-Men. But what exactly led to some of the stranger decisions in this movie? Like what was up with all the swearing? Or Logan’s plan to buy a boat for him and Professor X? Or X-23 only using her powers AFTER Gabriela is killed by the Reavers? Or the secret barrier that makes Canada incredibly safe?

Spider-Man fans were pretty excited when Andrew Garfield stepped into the role of Spidey with The Amazing Spider-Man, and apparently the movie made enough money to warrant a sequel! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 brought us a whole lot of villains and relationship problems, apparently learning nothing from Spider-Man 3. A lot of questionable decisions went into making this superhero movie. What’s up with Electro’s motivation and randomly fixed teeth? Why is Harry Osborn dying so much faster than his dad. Why does Gwen Stacy rush to her death?

John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween movie introduced the world to the iconic serial killer Michael Myers, his crazy William Shatner mask, and of course, to Jamie Lee Curtis. The film revolutionized horror movies and spawned a ridiculous number of sequels, spin-offs and reboots. But what kind of decisions went into making the original? Why were there SO many lingering long takes and filler moments? How was Michael able to survive the crazy stuff that happened to him? The movie raises a lot of questions, like why does it have the same title as the movie it’s a sequel to? Why does Laurie still live in Haddonfield? What exactly is her weird strategy with the lights? Why didn’t she make sure that Michael was dead?

The Harry Potter movies were an absolute global phenomenon, so you can’t really blame Warner Bros. for wanting to cash in on that whole universe with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them just a couple of years later. The studio brought us back into the wizarding world of Harry Potter with a new era, a new continent and a whole lot of magical beasts. Instead of Hogwarts, the movie brings us to New York City and brings a whole lot of questions along with it. Like why is Newt Scamander so reckless with his beasts? X-Men The Last Stand is seen as one of the worst entries in the X-Men franchises and definitely had fans scratching their heads over some questionable decisions. Spider-Man 2 is seen by many as the best Spider-Man movie ever made, or even to some the best SUPERHERO movie ever made. That being said, the movie does raise a couple of questions. 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot aimed to breathe new life into the classic franchise by introducing us to a brand new take on the concept, while still shoving as much nostalgia our way as it could. The movie bombed pretty hard at the box office and it seems unlikely that we'll see this version of the team again. The movie was kind of a mess and raises a ton of questions. Like… was there a script? Did Paul Feig just point a camera at Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones and let them come up with stuff? The film isn’t exactly getting stellar reviews, and definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why didn’t Kevin ever shut his eyes to prevent the flashing lights from stopping him? Although the movie features some beautiful cinematography, it definitely raises some questions. Like… who even are the main characters? Why did Mason Weaver or James Conrad even have to be in this movie? Why did the soldiers in helicopters fly directly at the giant gorilla, instead of anywhere else? After Val Kilmer stepped away from the role (because he didn’t know how to skate) George Clooney stepped in as the caped crusader and, along with Joel Schumacher, gave us what many consider to be one of the worst movies of all time. Batman & Robin features Chris O’Donnell being super annoying as Robin, Arnold Schwarzenegger delivering as many ice puns as he possibly can, and Uma Thurman doing… something. The movie raises a lot of questions, like why does Batman have a credit card? Why is Batgirl even in this? Why do they have retractable skate blades? How did this movie even get made?

After pretty much everybody hated X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Fox was stuck with an X-Men character that everyone loved, and a need to make something that was quite a bit better than Origins. That’s how The Wolverine was born. The James Mangold directed movie came out two years after X-Men: First Class and brought fans to a place we’d never seen Logan before… Japan. Despite having some cool sequences, the movie raises a lot of questions. Like what was the point of Yashida faking his death? Why introduce Wolverine’s reduced powers if it’s barely going to affect the plot? How did they get Poison Ivy in this movie?

We’ve gotten a whooooole lot of Spider-Man movies over the past two decades. From Tobey Maguire to Andrew Garfield to Tom Holland, there have been a ton of incarnations of the Marvel web-slinger. So apparently Sony took it upon themselves to cram as many NEW incarnations of the character into a single movie as humanly possible. The Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse brought us Miles Morales, an older chubby Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Peni Parker and Spider-Man Noir. The movie is great, but it does raise a few questions… Like what was Gwen doing for a full week? Why didn’t Kingpin ever finish Miles off when he had the chance? How does that machine even work, anyway?

Tim Burton is bringing Dumbo the elephant back to life this year in a live-action adaptation featuring a bunch of human actors played by Danny Devito, Michael Keaton, Colin Farrell and more. The original is a Disney classic, but it seems like a lot of people might not remember it. It definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the storks all delivering baby animals on the same exact night? Why are some of the songs so blatantly offensive? Why do Dumbo and Timothy Q Mouse drink so much?

  • S2019E28 Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones

    • March 30, 2019
    • YouTube

Attack of the Clones had the difficult task of proving that The Phantom Menace was a fluke and that the prequel trilogy was still a super good idea. If you ask most people, it failed pretty hard at that. The movie brought us Hayden Christensen as an Anakin Skywalker in his late teenage years, transformed from a tiny little pod-racing enthusiast into a creepy guy that stares at women for far too long and whines about everything. George Lucas also put the pedal to the metal in terms of CGI, using some in virtually every single shot. The movie also raises a ton of questions… like why was Anakin assigned to protect Padme when there were so many qualified Jedi just sitting around? What exactly does she even see in him? Why does Yoda walk into a fight with a cane and suddenly bounce around like a pinball?

After many years of development, Shazam has joined the DCEU! Billy Batson gets chosen by a wizard to take on the mantle of Shazam and develops the ability to turn into a full-grown superhero. The movie is a ton of fun, but definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the bullies being absolute psychopaths? Why is the villain so generic? Why was it so easy for Billy’s mom to just abandon him? Why was the Shazam family so good with their powers?!

Just as superhero movies were picking up steam with hits like X-Men and Spider-Man, Columbia took an unconventional comic book character out for a spin in his own movie. Hellboy was directed by Guillermo Del Toro and was enough of a success to justify a sequel as well as a 2019 reboot starring David Harbour. Although the 2004 film is stylistically impressive, it raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the bad guys throwing up their banner at secret locations? Why wasn’t Broom afraid of Hellboy when he didn’t know anything about him? Why does John Myers even exist? What’s up with Abe Sapien’s inconsistent breathing? On that same note, what’s up with Guillermo Del Toro being fascinated with mer-men?

Since Emperor Palpatine will be making his big return in Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker, we thought we’d take a look at the last time we saw the big bad guy on the big screen - in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. This third movie in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy certainly raises a ton of questions. Like what’s up with nobody realizing that Palpatine is the evil Darth Sidious? Why did Yoda go hang out with Chewbacca and the Wookies? Why was it so easy to convince Anakin to turn completely to the Dark Side and murder younglings? Why was this trilogy even made?

Before Marvel kicked off the MCU and changed the superhero genre forever, the early 2000’s were trying to capitalize on the genre as well, given the success of Spider-Man and X-Men. The problem is, they didn’t really know exactly how to do that. 2003’s Daredevil starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell, is the perfect example of this. The movie is kind of a mess and raises a whole lot of questions. Like how Daredevil’s powers so inconsistent? What’s up with that weird playground fight between Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios? Why don’t the villains have any defining character traits other than just being evil?

Pikachu and a bunch of Pokémon are set to hit the big screen in Detective Pikachu starring Ryan Reynolds, but it’s not the first time these pocket monsters hit the big screen. Back in the 90’s at the height of the Pokémon craze, Pokémon: The First Movie was released and introduced the world to the raw power of Mewtwo. Re-watching the film raises a lot of questions. Like why is it so short? What’s up with the “no fighting” lesson the character learn? Why does it get erased from their memory? Why does Mewtwo even want an army? Why are Brock and Misty there?

It’s only natural then that a Pokemon movie soon went into development, cashing in on the Pokemon-mania. Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Pokemon, and certainly raises some questions. Like why is the first part of the movie so depressing? What was the bad guy even trying to accomplish by putting everyone in their Pokemon? How did Tim get down that skyscraper so dang fast?

Why did Obi Wan Kenobi pick such a bad fake name for himself? Why why the devil hanging out at a space Cantina?

Are scorpions more powerful, or are dragons?

Disney has fallen in love with making live-action remakes of their animated classics, taking our nostalgia all the way to the bank. The original Beauty and the Beast is one of their all-time classics, so it makes sense that they would want to cash in on that as well. Although the movie was a huge hit, it definitely raises some questions. Like was there any other reason to make it other than money? Why does the Beast look like a Snapchat filter? Why was the castle randomly crumbling in the final scene? Why does everyone hate Belle so much?

The X-Men franchise has been running for nearly two decades, and it all culminates with Dark Phoenix, a storyline that the movies already covered in 2006. Once again, Jean Grey goes absolutely bonkers with power, but this time Wolverine isn’t around to stab her. The movie has a pretty awful score on Rotten Tomatoes and definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s the deal with the aliens, are they bulletproof or not? Why was Quicksilver dismissed from the movie so quickly? What was up with that Phoenix moment in X-Men Apocalypse? Why do these movies keep jumping forward a decade each time? Is Magneto supposed to be 62 years old, and if so, why is a 42-year-old with no make-up playing him? Why did they show Mystique dying in the trailer?

The movie was directed by someone who just goes by the name “Pitof” which really should have been a red flag for everyone involved. The movie is cut at a dizzying pace and definitely raises a ton of questions. Like what’s up with all the cat puns? Why did that cat burp in Patience’s mouth? Why is her name not Selina Kyle? How BAD is this detective guy?

Why did Ben switch back to The Thing?

Avengers Endgame had one of the best theatrical runs in the history of cinema. But not quite… THE best. In a pretty transparent attempt to dethrone James Cameron’s Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time, Marvel decided to re-release Endgame in theatres with a little bonus content to try and entice people to see it again. But is an intro from the director enough to get people to come out? What about a deleted Hulk scene? Did they include a Stan Lee tribute just to try and tug us by the heartstrings all the way to the movies? Do they really think people will pay for a movie ticket just to see a few minutes from Spider-Man: Far From Home which is set for release a week after the Endgame re-release?

The original Star Wars trilogy revolutionized the world of cinema forever-- but did the final movie stick the landing? While not as universally loved as Empire Strikes Back, the movie is definitely a classic. That being said it does raise a few questions-- like what exactly was Luke’s plan to rescue Han? Why did the Emperor leak the actual plans instead of decoys? Why did the Empire include another thing in the Death Star that blows the whole thing up if you shoot it? What’s up with Obi Wan being such a sassy ghost? Speaking of ghosts, is Anakin turned into a Force Ghost, doesn’t that mean that Palpatine is probably still out there?

Director Jon Favreau brings to life our favorite characters like Simba, Nala, Timon and Pumbaa in a way that’s… maybe a little too realistic? The movie raises a lot of questions. Like why did they decide to go SO realistic with the visuals? Why did they cut out all the fun cartoony parts? Why is Beyonce hitting so many notes in a single song? What emotions are these lions even feeling?!

The Fast and Furious franchise has come a long way from its roots. What started out as a low-key storyline about underground car racing is now about a team of super spies that take on global threats. Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Jason Statham have been standouts entertainment-wise in this insane franchise, and so their characters now have their own spinoff movie. The movie is nuts and raises a ton of questions. Like what’s up with the age difference between Shaw and his sister? Why are these two guys the best people to do this job? Why didn’t the movie end after the Ukraine scene? Why on Earth would they fly to Samoa for the help of a mechanic?!

The Hunger Games was a massive hit when it came out in 2012, right when the “young adult” genre of movies based on book series was going strong. The movie helped shoot Jennifer Lawrence to superstardom and introduced us to the world of Panem and their crazy Hunger Games Battle Royale ritual. The film definitely raises some questions though. Like what’s up with that “lucky” mockingjay pin? Why doesn’t anyone look hungry? What’s up with Peeta’s makeup skills; what kinds of cakes was he making in that bakery? How did Haymitch instantly get over his alcoholism? Why did they divide this into four movies?

This time around, the full-grown Losers have to head back to their hometown to defeat Pennywise once and for all. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s going on with the memory haze and future-telling powers coming from the deadlights? Why did they bring Henry Bowers back exactly? Isn’t Bill going to end up in jail after that house of mirrors scene? Why are there so many jokes in this one?

Breaking Bad was one of the most celebrated shows of all-time, and really showcased how good TV can really be. Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, shook audiences to their core with his decisions and the lengths he went to in order to reach his goals. Characters like Jesse Pinkman, Gus Fring, Skyler, Tuco Salamanca and more all brought this great show to life in an unforgettable way. Although it’s awesome, the show definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why don’t it’s best scenes sound as cool when you try to explain them out loud? What’s up with the yellow tint in Mexico? What happened to Walt’s goatee? What’s up with that El Camino spinoff that’s coming to Netflix?

  • S2019E54 Maleficent

Disney has been taking over the box office in recent years with it’s live-action remakes of animated classics. While several of these have practically been shot-for-shot remakes, Maleficent at least offered us something a little different: a look at the classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, from the perspective of the villain - the evil fairy godmother Maleficent as played by Angelina Jolie. That being said, the movie definitely raises a ton of questions. Like why is she named “Maleficent” which literally means evil? How come she has seemingly unstoppable magic powers, but can’t give herself new wings? Why does King Stefan send his newborn baby to live with strange pixies he literally just met instead of protecting her himself? And why does Aurora become queen?!

Hangover director Todd Phillips has taken a swing at an origin movie for the clown prince, and we get to explore Gotham City in 1989 before Bruce Wayne even put on the cowl and became Batman. Although Phoenix is absolutely mesmerizing on-screen, the movie itself definitely raises some questions. Like are there any parts of it that aren’t inspired by or lifted from Scorsese movies like The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver? Who was even filming in that comedy club? And what exactly is this movie trying to say?

The script for Ang Lee’s Gemini Man starring Will Smith and… Will Smith, has apparently been floating around Hollywood for an incredibly long time. Several stars have been attached to the project before like Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford. Now that de-aging technology has improved a whole lot, the movie has finally come to life… Kind of. The film definitely raises a whole lot of questions. Like why does this movie feel like it should have come out in the 90s? What’s up with the world elite assassin having a best friend who’s a pilot/chauffeur? Why does Clay Verris not use his most powerful weapons right away when trying to take out his most powerful enemy? And what the heck was that motorcycle fight scene?

The movie is a horror classic and led to a whole lot of sequels and even a reboot. However it definitely raises a lot of questions. Like how exactly do Freddy’s powers work exactly? Is there any consistency to what he can and can’t do? Where did Nancy get that insane library book that helps her defeat Freddy? Why is her mom so chill about this whole thing? Why doesn’t anyone believe her when obviously supernatural stuff starts happening around town? Does this movie hold up?

The movie follows Malcolm Taylor, a totally alive child psychologist that’s trying to help Cole Sear, a little boy with the ability to see dead people. The film was a cultural phenomenon, but it definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what exactly ARE the rules of being a ghost in this world? Why do they only seem to apply to Malcolm? Why are all the ghosts so hostile towards Cole if they actually just want to talk? How is Cole going to help ghosts that don’t have currently active easy-to-solve cases? A remake of the spooky Japanese film Ringu, The Ring starring Naomi Watts was a massive hit in the early 2000’s. It not only made the phrase “seven days” a creepy part of pop culture but also inspired Hollywood to remake a ton of other Japanese films thanks to its success. Although the movie is undoubtedly creepy, it also raises a bunch of questions. Like what happens if you’re not anywhere near a phone when you watch the tape? What happens if you’re standing next to a Jumbotron when Samara decides to crawl out of the screen? Why didn’t Rachel ask her son, who was communicating with Samara, for a bunch of information? Why did Samara’s dad bonk Rachel over the head before having his electricity party? And why did this ghost leave so many clues?!

Ever since then, Hollywood has been trying to breathe new life into the franchise and make some money off of it. Now James, Arnold and Linda are all back to take matters into their own hands. Terminator: Dark Fate definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why kill off John Connor only to bring back someone with the exact same function as him? Why are these new machines also called Terminators? Why didn’t “Legion” send them back to before people had access to advanced weaponry to defend themselves? What the heck’s going on with Carl?

With classic animated movies, Star Wars and Marvel films and TV shows, they seem to be taking this thing really seriously. Millions of people have already signed up for the service, but it still raises a lot of questions. Like how did they come up with the name? What’s up with that new Macklunkey scene in A New Hope? What are they going to do about some of their… outdated animations?

Frozen 2 brings Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven back to the big screen for another adventure. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions though. Like how do you follow up a film that ended with “they lived happily ever after?” Why is Kristoff even in this movie? What’s Olaf up to other than trying to sell merch to kids? Why is this movie filled with so much exposition? What’s up with all the Northuldra and Arendelle soldiers being introduced, only to do practically nothing story-wise?

Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black, this new movie takes the players inside the game to survive in the jungle of Jumanji. The movie was a massive hit, but definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the game establishing video game rules only to abandon them later? Why is Ruby REALLY dressed like that? Is Kevin Hart trying to play his character or is he just doing his usual shtick. And what’s up with the avatars having accurate human anatomy?

Starring Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Aykroyd and more, Christmas With The Kranks follows Luther and Nora Krank as they decide to skip Christmas. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why aren’t any of the characters likeable? Why does anyone even care if they go on a cruise or not? Why not put up the decorations if it’ll get everyone off their backs and cost them no money? What’s up with their daughter landing in Peru only to come directly home? What’s this movie’s message, anyway?

The first two Home Alone movies starring Macaulay Culkin as Kevin Mcallister are absolute holiday classics (although they don’t have a ton to do with Christmas.) So it’s understandable that 20th Century Fox wanted to keep the property alive even after Culkin aged out of the role. The result of that was Home Alone 3-- a movie that has nothing to do with the first to in the slightest (except vaguely copying the formula.) The movie raises a ton of questions-- like why are the stakes suddenly so high? How did the bad guys get all their spy tech through airport security? Why did they steal a dog? Why did they rent a house? And maybe most importantly-- how are the bad guys surviving all these insanely precise traps?

That attempt took the form of the Star Wars Holiday Special, a made-for-TV movie that’s set in the Star Wars universe and featured Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and Chewbacca’s family. Okay, MOSTLY Chewbacca’s family actually. The special raises a ton of questions- like why isn’t Luke blinking? Why does Chewbacca’s family have so many screens? How are they accessing live feeds of private establishments? Why did do the bad guys watch a full Jefferson Starship music video? Why is Bea Arthur here and why is she singing? What’s up with that weird virtual reality fantasy lady? And most importantly WHAT IS GOING ON?!

Like how exactly is Palpatine alive? Was he really pulling the strings this whole time? Is this movie just trying to course correct after The Last Jedi? Why doesn’t anything seem to have lasting consequences? What’s a force dyad? How can Rey suddenly heal everybody now? Is this a video game? Who did Emperor Palpatine make a baby with? Now that the movie is out, the few people that paid money to see it probably have a few questions. Like what is “Jellicle” and why do they keep saying it?! What’s up with all these cats introducing themselves and then leaving. Why are some cats magic and others not? Why are all these cats competing in a singing competition where the prize is dying?

Before J.J. But from what people could make out, it seemed pretty good! Although the movie was a critical and financial success, it definitely raises a few questions. Like why didn’t Chris Hemsworth abandon ship if he was just setting it on a collision course? What was the point of the young Kirk scenes? How was Kirk qualified to be promoted? The Twilight Saga took theatres by storm when it premiered in 2008, with die-hard fans lining up to see Edward Cullen, Bella Swan and Jacob Black do super melodramatic vampire and werewolf stuff on the big screen. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will forever be associated with these roles. The movie definitely raises some questions. Like why are the Cullens even going to high school-- isn’t that a terrible way to blend in? What’s up with vampire baseball? What does everybody see in Bella? What’s so romantic about almost puking and awkwardly staring at her? Why is a 100 year old vampire so into a teenage girl? Why is she okay with him watching her sleep every night?!

In the early 1990’s, Mario and Luigi were all the rage. The Nintendo video game franchise had become a massive worldwide phenomenon, so it only made sense for Hollywood to try and cash in on it. The Super Mario Bros movie was the first movie based on a video game ever made, and it did not exactly inspire confidence in the genre. Starring Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper and Samantha Mathis, the movie is completely bonkers and raises a whole lot of questions. Like how did dinosaurs also evolve into humans? Why do none of the characters have anything to do with their video game counterparts? Why did they go all-in on the plumbing aspect? Why does President Koopa not just go through the portal? How did they think this would get a SEQUEL?!

Suicide Squad wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but most people can agree that Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn was a standout. So it’s only natural that Hollywood wanted to feature her in another movie! Rather than a straight up solo movie, Warner Bros has delivered Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which is… pretty much a Harley Quinn movie. The film raises a lot of questions. Like why don’t any of Harley’s enemies use their guns? Where is the Joker and all the other Gotham villains? Where’s Batman for that matter? How is this Roman Sionus guy running the show? Is this the first comic book movie in which the problem is solved via laxatives? Why is there a hyena?! What is going on?!

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most famous video game characters of all time, so it definitely makes sense that Hollywood wanted to cash in on this little blue guy by bringing him to the big screen. Voiced by Ben Schwartz, Sonic has now come to planet Earth and has to go up against the evil Doctor Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why is there suddenly an owl here? Why does Sonic run into someone’s garage to use his portal ring? Why doesn’t he run to San Francisco to retrieve it, instead taking a slow-paced road trip when time is of the essence? Why does this little blue alien floss so often? Why did they want to give him so many teeth?

Indiana Jones is one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. Along with his role as Han Solo, playing Indy is one of the defining works of Harrison Ford’s long career. So, in an age of constant reboots and sequels, it was kind of inevitable that Hollywood wanted to bring Indiana Jones back to the big screen. And with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg both on board, this had the makings of something great! Unfortunately yeah no it didn’t work out that way. The movie definitely raises some questions. Like why are we focusing on aliens? Why do the good guys and the bad guys have the same goal? How did they think the nuke fridge scene was a good idea? How does Shia Laboeuf befriend monkeys so quickly and swing through the jungle faster than speeding vehicles? Why did the FBI decide to stop investigating Doctor Jones despite absolutely nothing changing from their perspective? What’s going on with Cate Blanchett’s voice?

For Universal, that attempt came in the form of the Dark Universe. It didn’t work out. Even with a superstar like Tom Cruise in the forefront, the movie raises a ton of questions. Like why did Princess Ahmanet need help from Set, the god of death, to take out a baby and a sleeping dude? How are two known artifact thieves still in the military? What exactly are the Mummy’s powers? Why is Doctor Jekyll so reckless with his Mr Hyde medicine? Why does Prodigium make it so simple for people to escape? Disney and Pixar have put out a whole lot of classic animated films over the years-- but in the past decade the majority of them have been sequels, prequels or spinoffs of their most popular properties. With Onward, they’re making a return to the world of original concepts. They’re bringing us into a world of magic that’s lost its magic, featuring the vocal talents of Star-Lord himself Chris Pratt, as well Spider-Man himself Tom Holland. Onward does raise some questions though-- like how did the invention of planes lead to creatures not flying down the street, or to reach things on shelves? Why are all their technological inventions human-sized if the creatures are the ones that made them? Why doesn’t anyone consider how the mom character feels? Why does every single road trip movie need an encounter with a biker gang? Why are the Simpsons here?

James Bond is one of the most popular franchises of all time. In recent years with Daniel Craig in the titular role, it’s been kind of a mixed bag. Casino Royale was critically acclaimed for its gritty perspective on 007, but then Quantum of Solace seemingly dropped the ball. Then Skyfall picked the ball back up again, and Spectre… well it raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with all the wardrobe changes? Where are they getting all these clothes? Why didn’t M tell James about the rogue mission while she was alive? Why is Q so nice to Bond? Why don’t any of the bad guys take the shot when they have it? How and when exactly did Madeleine fall deeply in love with James? When did Blofeld do so many arts and crafts?

The only problem is, it clearly wasn’t really designed to be a trilogy. The Matrix: Reloaded definitely raises some questions. Like how exactly is Agent Smith now free and able to copy paste himself? Why are we spending so much time in Zion talking about philosophy and politics? How is anything actually a problem, now that Neo is straight up Superman? How can Agent Smith travel through phone lines into the real world? How can Neo control machines in the real world? Why does the Architect use so many big words?!

Like why was the Abbott family so irresponsible in the opening scene? Why are the alien/monsters so inconsistent in what they can hear and how they attack? What’s up with that waterfall scene, and that nail scene on the stairs? Did Lee really have to sacrifice himself at the end? And what’s up with the happy quirky ending?

How does he keep meeting new husbands? How does a tiger attack barely register as something of note in this show? How is literal Scarface one of the most relatable characters? Why does Jeff Lowe dress like that, and why does everyone call him Jeff Lowe? Did Carol Baskin feed her husband to some tigers? Why can’t we stop watching this show?!

Like why does Johnny sometimes take damage from his Ghost Rider fights and other times doesn’t? Why can’t the devil deal with his son on Earth, why are his powers so weak? Why is Roxanne so obsessed with Johnny when he keeps ignoring her? What’s up with the Caretaker turning into a Ghost Rider and then not helping at all? But The Lost World: Jurassic Park definitely raises some questions, other than the strangely structured title. Like why have we never heard of this secondary island before? What kind of a person secretly goes to a dinosaur island knowing the her boyfriend has lived through very significant dinosaur-related trauma? Why is there a little girl in this movie? What’s up with all the characters making insane decisions leading to death-by-dinosaur? Why are we in San Diego?

Like did anyone actually want to see Neo, The Chosen One, stuck in a train station for 25 minutes? What’s up with all the real-world superpowers that Neo and Agent Smith have? How exactly do program make babies? Why are the machines using humans as batteries when the sun is accessible? Like what’s up with the completely new visual style? Why does Batman adopt a fully grown man? What’s up with those… things on the batsuit? Why is Chase Meridian so obsessed with Batman? Why is the circus being broadcast on live TV? Why does Two Face want to kill Batman, exactly? Why the The Riddler pick the worst spot in the world for his showdown with Batman?

Like how did they manage to get the producers to get off their back about worldbuilding details and love interests? How does anyone feel safe at the Continental Hotel? Why didn’t Viggo stick around to make sure his men took care of John Wick, and why did John make a deal with Viggo just moments later? Also, why didn’t anyone Google Baba Yaga?

The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why didn’t anyone check that Paul Kirby had any money before accepting his job offer? Why does anyone think that yelling into a megaphone on Dinosaur Island is a good idea? How are we supposed to be rooting for the Kirby couple? Why does this movie have a talking raptor dream sequence? How did Eric get a jar of T-Rex urine? Why did this movie introduce the Spinosaurus, and why is it a ninja? With each passing film, the stakes get higher and the stunts get crazier. Many people think the turning point for that evolution was the fifth installment of the franchise - the bizarrely named Fast Five. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like how did the good guys know they weren’t going to kill anyone when they got Dom off the prison bus? Why did they even care that some of the people on the train heist wanted a particular car? How did any of their associates get into Brazil? How did they buy a vault, steal police cars, participate in a street race and joyride cop cars around town without raising any flags? Like why are we spending so much time on a wedding? What are the Silver Surfer’s powers exactly? Is Sue Storm focusing on her forehead pimple for the entire duration of the movie? How do Johnny’s new power-switching powers work? What’s Victor Von Doom’s plan exactly? Why would the military trust him on a mission like this? Why is Galactus a cloud?

Like did the writers actually read the books or just glance through a wikipedia page? Why is there so much exposition in this thing? Why does the whole thing take place in a house? Why isn’t Artemis an evil genius like he was in the books? What exactly is going on with all this magic stuff? Then came “The Last Airbender” in 2010, which not only solidified the new, negative public opinion of Shyamalan, but also enraged fans of the animated series around the world. The Last Airbender definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why rush through twenty episodes in ninety minutes? Why is there so much narration and exposition? The movie was extremely popular, but definitely raises some questions. Like how did nobody spot a massive ship until it reached the moon? Why did aliens choose landmarks? Why did she suddenly flip-flop from wanting to kill millions of people to thinking that’s too intense? Why was she so reckless with her daughter’s life? Why did everyone send the Godzilla expert to blow himself up? Why did that one pilot eject his seat directly into the mouth of a monster? Why is it always raining? Or snowing? Or smokey? The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring raises a few questions (aside from the question about how many times the word “the” appears in the title.) Like why did Sauron try to grab Isuldur instead of smashing him like everyone else? Why didn’t Elrond try a tiny bit harder to stop him? Why does Frodo keep getting stabbed? Like why did Goku fling a fly in his grandpa’s mouth. How did Piccolo escape? Why does Goku carry a Dragonball to a teenager party? Why does Piccolo go to Goku’s home if he can sense that the ball isn’t there? Why didn’t Goku just explain himself to Roshi instead of fighting him? Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief raises lots of questions. Like why do Greek Gods hang out in the United States? Why does everyone think that Percy stole the lightning bolt? Why does Zeus pick such a specific time for war? Why keep Percy in Camp Half-Blood if Hades can just pop up in the campfire at any time? The Twilight books were incredibly successful, so it’s only natural that Hollywood wanted to cash in. And cash in they certainly did. Eclipse is the third of the YA novels written by Stephanie Meyer, and in 2010 was adapted for the big screen. Like the other Twilight movies, Eclipse raises a ton of questions. Like why is literally everyone obsessed with Bella Swan? Why are people raising armies to track her down? Why are ancient monsters ignoring century-old conflicts just to help her out? What’s up with Victoria’s army of newborn vampires being so slow-moving? Why does Jasper suddenly have a southern accent in this movie? Why does Rosalie’s story sound more interesting than this entire vampire saga? Why are we still stuck on whether or not Bella is going to marry Edward, after she’s already agreed to be an immortal vampire with him for eternity?

  • S2020E41 The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

After the massive success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Hollywood understandably wanted to find another way to cash in on the works of JRR Tolkien. That came in the form of The Hobbit trilogy, starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. The only problem? While The Lord of the Rings trilogy was based on a trilogy of books, The Hobbit trilogy was based off a single one. So yeah-- there’s a lot of filler. The Desolation of Smaug definitely raises some questions. Like why do these dwarves keep getting captured every few minutes? Is Bilbo really going to have to use the ring every time to help them escape? Why does he keep removing it in key action scenes? Why is Legolas here? How did they think they’d be able to take down a dragon using heat? Why does this movie just kind of end?

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, based on the Roald Dahl book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a classic movie that audiences still come back to today since its release in 1971. Starring Gene Wilder as the wacky (sometimes terrifying) factory owner Willy Wonka, the movie is full of yummy-looking candy and the occasional terrifying imagery. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory definitely raises lots of questions. Like what’s up with Grandpa Joe suddenly getting out of bed after being stuck there for twenty years? Why is that Candy Man just throwing candy at kids? Did Wonka know that one of the kids was going to fall into the chocolate river? What was up with that boat scene? Are these kids going to be okay? Why is Grandpa Joe such a sketchy guy? What’s Charlie going to do as the owner of a candy factory?!

The Twilight Saga took the world by storm and became an incredibly successful movie franchise. The “love story” between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan was one for the ages. Maybe. Probably not. Unwilling to give up on some extra cash, Hollywood actually decided to split up the final Twilight book into two movies: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2. Both movies raise a lot of questions. Like why was this made into two movies?! Like why didn’t Edward and Bella push their honeymoon back a little? How did Edward get Bella pregnant? Why is everybody so mad about this baby? How is Bella so good at being a newborn vampire? What’s going on with the baby’s face, and why did Jacob immediately fall in love with it? Was the only entertaining scene of this whole franchise really just a vision?

About a decade after the acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy, Hollywood decided it was time for another trilogy set in Middle Earth. But this time, they only had one book to base it on. Well, with a lot of padding, they managed to make it work. Kind of. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies raises a lot of questions. Like why did they put the end of the Desolation of Smaug at the beginning of this movie? What’s up with Thorin suddenly being sick and a jerk? Why do the elves hold off on their attack when it’s literally thousands of them versus a dozen dwarves? Where did those worms come from and where did they go? Why are we spending so much time with Alfrid? What was the point of that whole Gandalf storyline? How is Legolas moving like that?

JJ Abrams’ 2009 reboot of Star Trek on the big screen was a massive blockbuster hit, and you know what that means… sequel! Star Trek Into Darkness was the follow-up movie that continued the adventures of the Starship Enterprise and brought along Benedict Cumberbatch for the ride-- who they tried very hard to pretend wasn’t playing Khan. Star Trek Into Darkness raises a lot of questions. Like why did both Marcus and Khan have such convoluted plans to get what they wanted? Why did Alice Eve’s character need to be shown in her underwear? Why did they decide to swap Spock’s sacrifice for a Kirk sacrifice? How does kicking a warp core a bunch of times fix it? Why would Khan think that torpodeos would be a safe place for his family? How are people beaming to other planets and beaming explosives to other ships? How is there any tension when SUPER-BLOOD exists?!

Back to the Future, starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Llyod as Marty McFly and Doctor Emmett Brown is an absolute cinematic classic and regarded as one of the best movies of all time. It spawned two sequels, countless memes, and remains an incredibly popular film to this day. Back to the Future does raise some questions though. Like how is Doc Brown so lovable while also being so sketchy (animal testing, dealing with terrorists...) Why is this movie so focused on Marty’s mom trying to seduce him? Is this really a family movie? How did Doc and Marty even meet? Why did Doc flip-flop on his passionate speech about not learning things about the future? What happened to the Marty from the new timeline that “our” Marty replaces?!

In the early 2000’s, years before the Marvel Cinematic Universe came into existence, superhero movies were starting to pick up steam. Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire was a massive success, and so it made sense to start tackling some other Marvel properties. However, studios didn’t exactly know what to do with comic book movies just yet. Thus was born Ang Lee’s slow-burn, slow-paced Hulk movie in 2003 with the weirdest editing transitions known to man. Ang Lee’s hulk definitely raises some questions. Like why does it take so long to see the Hulk? Why is a movie about a giant green monster that smashes things so slow-paced? What’s up with Hulk fighting dogs? Why is everybody surviving these catastrophic attacks from the Hulk? And seriously, what’s with this editing?

In the midst of that big Disney-Fox merger though was one final movie set in that universe… The New Mutants. The New Mutants definitely raises some questions. Like why did this take three years to see the light of day? How is there only one person working at this facility? Is Dani’s power supposed to be a surprise? What’s actually going on in this movie? Why isn’t Illyana teleporting away? Why is Roberto doing dishes in every scene? Was this supposed to be a pilot for a TV show? What’s up with the bear ex machina?

With franchises like The Matrix and John Wick under his belt, Reeves is an absolute action star. But thirty years ago, he was still trying to prove himself as a viable lead for those kinds of movies. And Point Break did just that! Point Break definitely does raise some questions though. Like why is the famous football star with a bad knee Johnny Utah chosen to go undercover, while ALSO using his real name? What were the odds of the very first person he encountered on the beach having a direct connection to the bank robbers he’s looking for? How many terrible decisions can Utah make in a single movie? Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors working today, and one of the few filmmakers who still makes high budget original movies. With movies like Inception, Dunkirk, Interstellar and more under his belt, he’s firmly established himself as one of the most visionary directors of our generation. That being said, TENET is super confusing. TENET is awesome to look at, but raises a lot of questions. Like what are the exact implications of moving backwards through time? Why is the music so much louder than the vocal tracks? What is going on? Why does The Protagonist spend an hour going from conversation to conversation? Who are those army guys shooting at? This movie makes sense, right?

Critics seemed to change their tune a little when the pair brought “The Polar Express” to life, based on a short children’s picture book of the same name. The Polar Express movie definitely raises some questions. Like why did they think they could make a non-horrifying animated kids movie using entirely motion capture? What’s up with that hobo? Why does “Hero Boy” spend a bunch of time trying to give a girl her ticket back? What’s up with Tom Hanks playing all these characters? How does the kid still not believe while standing in the middle of the North Pole? Why is this all so unsettling and scary? Wonder Woman was received as one of the best DCEU movies when it came out in 2017, so naturally Warner Bros wanted Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins to make a sequel. That sequel comes three years later in the form of Wonder Woman 1984, which in a historic first for a massive superhero blockbuster - came out on streaming at the same time as in theatres! Wonder Woman 1984 movie definitely raises some questions. Like why did Steve Trevor return through some random guy? Why are they using this man’s body for anything they like? Why is there a fully-fueled jet lying around at the Smithsonian and how does Steve Trevor know how to fly it? How does Diana know how to make it invisible? How did Wonder Woman get her lasso around Max Lord? How did literally everyone renounce their wishes? How did nobody wish the world to immediately end? What exactly is the message of this movie?!

With 90’s nostalgia being such a big cash cow, it only makes sense that a modern blockbuster reboot was attempted in 2017. The 2017 Power Rangers movie does raise some questions though. Like why does it take an hour and a half to even see the titular Power Rangers? How does Rita Repulsa speak English? How did the Rangers know how to form Megazord? What’s up with all the Krispy Kreme references? Why does Jason keep having car accidents anytime the plot needs to move forward? Did they really just slap the bad guy into space to save the day? Star Trek has been one of the most popular sci-fi franchises in the world for decades, and with the success of the 2009 blockbuster reboot, it was only natural that we got a few follow-ups to the Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto-led movies. Star Trek Beyond, the first movie in the Kelvin timeline, does raise some questions though. Like what happened to Carol Marcus? What happened to the life-saving superblood from Star Trek Into Darkness? What happened to beaming bombs onto people’s ships? Why does Kirk think a desk job will help him in the way of excitement? Did anyone ever care about Spock and Uhura’s relationship? How is Jaylah managing to hide that ship from Krall, who’s literally the one who crashed it there? Why do all these movies have bad guys from a different time?

Their latest movie, Soul, starring Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey, tackles the subject of what happens to the soul after we die. These are still kid’s movies, right? Soul does raise some questions though. Like what kind of injury did Joe sustain when he fell into the manhole? How is his body totally fine when he jumps back into it later? Why aren’t any of the other souls freaking out about their deaths? Is Joe really the first one to freak out and push on the wall a little? What happened to the soul of the doctor he impersonated? Or the cat for that matter? What kind of a message is that ending sending? Why is Marie Antoinette only a floating head?

The first Hunger Games movie was an absolute smash hit and helped (along with X-Men: First Class) skyrocket Jennifer Lawrence to superstardom. So it only made sense that Hollywood would want to adapt the other two Hunger Games books, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, into movies as well. Three of them. That math checks out, right? The Hunger Games sequels do raise some questions though. Like why is Snow flaunting around the victors at the risk of a revolution if silencing them would be more effective? Why is Katniss suddenly obsessed with Peeta? Is Mockingjay Part 1 just about how bad of an actress Katniss Everdeen is? Was President Snow’s big strategy to have an underfed prisoner try to strangle Katniss? How did the Capitol not think of guarding the tunnels that run through the entire underground of the city? Why do the middle two movies just kind of end abruptly?

Step inside the pitch meeting that led to The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl! Before Disney turned it into a massive franchise of blockbuster movies, Pirates of the Caribbean was just a slow-moving boat ride attraction at their Disney parks involving looking around at pirates and ships and whatnot. Somehow, that served as the inspiration for a massive series of adventure movies starring Johnny Depp and the rise of one of the most recognizable movie characters of all time: Captain Jack Sparrow. The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a fantastic adventure movie, but does raise some questions though. Like doesn’t Will hesitate to throw an axe at a pirate’s back when he didn’t throw his sword at Jack just a few minutes earlier? How are all these people’s massive concussions? Was that moonlight really just hitting one spot in the whole town? Why did the entire crew of a ship abandon it completely? Why is there a cowboy here?

The Alien franchise is a beloved horror and sci-fi staple, so naturally Hollywood tries to breathe new life into it every few years. In 2012, Ridley Scott made his return to the universe of Alien with Prometheus-- a not-quite prequel that follows a space crew as they deal with some scary alien threats called Engineers. Prometheus does raise some questions though. Like why haven’t the crew been briefed on their mission until AFTER they’ve been in cryo-sleep for several years? Why does everybody take off their helmets in an alien cave? How did they get lost in the cave with amazing mapping technology? Why did they suddenly want to touch that horrifying alien snake thing? Why did David spike Charlie’s drink? What was the point of Weyland plot twist? Why was that Engineer chasing Elizabeth at the end? The idea of having Michael Bay make a feature-length commercial for them filled with cool cars, military stuff, pretty girls and explosions seemed like a no-brainer! And a no-brainer it definitely was. Transformers does raise some questions though. Like what are the odds that Sam Witwicky would be car-shopping on the very same day a shapeshifting car robot was looking for him? Why did that robot attack the soldiers a second time if they didn’t have any data? Why is Mikaela eating at Burger King? Why does Megatron have the random ability of etching coordinates into tiny pieces of glass? How is Megatron speaking English? Why did the soldiers think it would be a good idea to go hide the Allspark in a densely-populated city?

The 90s was a crazy time not only for action movies in general, but also for Nicholas Cage and John Travolta. With over-the-top action movies were taking over the box office, John Woo’s Face/Off was the epitome of craziness and brought both these over-the-top actors into an over-the-top premise with over-the-top action. The movie is insane. Face/Off raises a whole lot of questions. Like why didn’t Castor Troy just take a second shot at the carousel? What kind of a name is Pollux? How did the FBI leave a dangerous terrorist unguarded in an empty hospital? How did he track down every single person that knew about Sean Archer’s mission? How did that prison escape work, and why did the cops just abandon their chase? Why is John Travolta wiping his fingers on everyone’s faces? WandaVision raises a lot of questions. Like will we ever be able to hear the words “Please Stand By” the same way again? Are viewers too obsessed with fan theories? What was with all the Mephisto hype and the aerospace engineer? Why bring Evan Peters over from the X-Men movies just to make a dirty joke? Did this interesting conceptual show really have to end with a CGI battle and sky beams? Years before Zack Snyder began sculpting the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel and Batman V Superman, he made a name for himself with a Dawn of the Dead remake- but really hit the mainstream with his intensely stylistic Frank Miller graphic novel adaptation 300. 300 is a very cool-looking movie, but definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with that giant hole? If it’s the city’s well, why did King Leonidas just murder a bunch of people in the drinking water? Why are the Spartans obsessed about not kneeling, when they all kneel to Leonidas, who kneels to some guys with weird skin? Could Leonidas really have not found ANY use for Ephialtes even though he couldn’t raise his shield? Why did Dilios decide to tell the troops about a musical goat? How many ABS are in this movie?

Over the years that followed, they worked hard to create a movement online to get Warner Bros to “Release the Snyder Cut” which, after tons of buzz, they finally did. Zack Synder’s cut of Justice League definitely raises some questions though. Like why do three of the Justice League members now have to deal with car and boat accidents? What’s with the ancient lamentation music that plays anytime Wonder Woman does anything? Why did she blow up a guy in front of a bunch of children? Why is this four hours long? Why did that woman sniff Aquaman’s sweater like that? Why does Martian Manhunter keep popping up at weird times?

Godzilla definitely raises some questions though. Like why is Bryan Cranston killed off so early and unceremoniously? Why are we now following his much less interesting army son, who just kind of follows the action? Why is Godzilla kind of teaming up with humans? Why is he in charge of balancing nature? Why aren’t we getting to see the actual fights? Why doesn’t Godzilla use that atomic breath move all the time? How fast in that little whalewatching boat?!

Like how did technology become straight-up magic in the past few years? How did Jia secretly teach sign language to a giant monkey that was under constant supervision? What’s the point of the Millie Bobby Brown storyline? What’s up with that weird wormhole? Why is no one affected by the literal GLOWING radiation around them? Did Godzilla just chuckle?

Alien: Covenant hit theatres in 2017 and was a follow-up to Prometheus, while also being kind of a sequel to Alien and Aliens? It’s a little blurry. Alien: Covenant definitely raises some questions. Like why is James Franco in this? Why are some significant scenes on the internet instead of in the movie? Why isn’t anyone wearing protective gear on an alien planet? How does everyone not see how obviously evil David is? Why did that girl lock her friend in a room with an alien, only to go in a few seconds later after the alien got her? Naturally, as is always the case in situations like this-- Disney decided to make some sequels! A lot of them! The first Pirates sequel came in 2006 with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which was basically a part 1 of 2 without them straight up SAYING it was a part 1 of 2. The movie definitely raises some questions. Like did learning that Aztec gods exist not effect anyone in any way? How does this “morphing into sealife” thing work exactly? Can these bad guys teleport, or is that just for dramatic entrances and exits? Why didn’t Davy Jones protect his key before sleeping, after Will Turner specifically said he wanted it? What did John Walker expect to accomplish with that non-vibranium shield? Why would Disney cast the same actress from Solo: A Star Wars Story for pretty much the exact same role? Like why are we following this made-up Cole Young guy when there are about a hundred existing characters to choose from? How deep does this dragon-mark champion concept go exactly? Why did Cole go back to his family after he specifically left them to keep them safe? How exactly is Lord Raiden allowed to intervene? The movie definitely raises some questions. Like why does Megatron get revived with the Allspark if that’s what killed him in the first film? Why does a sliver of it drive Sam Witwicky insane when he carried the entire thing in the first movie? If Decepticons can take the form of human beings, why do they need to transform into vehicles to blend in? Why does the Jet Decepticon travel by teleportation instead of… by being a jet? Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End definitely raises some questions though. Like why is death so impermanent for the main characters? How did Jack and Barbossa become pirate lords? Is that dog magical? Why are we spending so much time talking about pirate politics and magical mythology? Why doesn’t Will Turner step in a bucket of water to visit Elizabeth as Davy Jones did? Like is everything so blurry? Why did Tanaka plan a fake heist when he could have just hired them for the thing he really wanted? Why are some zombies robots?! Why does everyone let Martin roam around free when they all suspect he’s up to something. Why didn’t Martin leave once he had what he came for and was standing by the exit? More than a decade and a half later, they were still trying to cash in on their swashbuckling pirate adventure franchise. The fifth movie of the Pirates of the Caribbean came out, and with the longest title in the world, it was called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales definitely raises some questions. Like did we really need origin stories for Jack’s hair beads? Why did Salazar make a big deal about “dead men tell no tales” only to tell a long tale later in the movie? Why are their so many random magical items they need to track down? How did Jack have the Black Pearl in a glass bottle on him during all those stunts without crushing it? Why didn’t Elizabeth join on this adventure? How is Will even still alive without the curse that was keeping him alive? Dominic Toretto is back, baby! For the ninth time! He’s in his fifties now! The Fast and Furious franchise, which began as a movie about underground street racing is back with an entry which literally goes to space. And Vin Diesel swings a car from a rope like Tarzan. Also, the title is F9, for some reason! F9: The Fast Saga definitely raises some questions. Like how did Mr Nobody actually make it seem like Han died, specifically? How do none of these thousands of bullets have any impact on any of the main characters? Why does illegal street racing lead to people have such incredible international spy skills? How did Jakob Toretto grow so much in his early twenties? How has Dom the family man never mention the fact that he has a literal brother? Why is Cardi B here?! To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to F9: The Fast Saga ! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Chris Pratt made the leap to action movie star back in 2014 with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and he’s been on that path ever since. After seeing him go to war against deadly aliens with a time-travel plot in Marvel, The Tomorrow War lets audiences see him go to war against deal aliens with a time-travel plot. But like… But different. The Tomorrow War definitely raises some questions. Like why aren’t people in the future sending people back in time to prepare for the war instead of to come fight a losing battle? Why do they mention only recruiting people that are deceased in the future if almost everyone is? Why did Dan dive off a platform to try and save Muri? What was the point of spending the whole movie working on a toxin if they just used explosives in the end? Why didn’t they prepare their soldiers at all for the extremely dangerous mission they sent them on? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to The Tomorrow War! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow has been in the MCU for multiple movies since her debut in Iron Man 2 many years ago. While other characters have had the chance to shine in multiple solo outings, Natasha Romanoff was never given the opportunity to take the reins in a big screen adventure of her own. Until now… Several years after the character’s on-screen death. Better late than never? Black Widow definitely raises some questions. Like why DID it take so long for them to make this? How is Natasha surviving all these explosions, car crashes and falls as a non-superpowered character? How many people died in that avalanche? Why did Natasha and her mom swap faces? How does that weird pheromone thing work? How did only the good guys survive that massive base collapse and fall? How did Natasha get away from Ross?

    • July 20, 2021
    • YouTube

Space Jam starring Michael Jordan was one of the definitive kid's movies of the 1990s and became an international hit. Naturally, Hollywood has wanted to make a sequel for a long time, but it’s no easy task. Who is an all-star athlete who is not only popular enough to not only carry a movie but fit it into their busy all-star athlete schedule? The answer is apparently: Lebron James. Space Jam: A New Legacy definitely raises some questions. Like why are there so many Warner Bros properties in this thing? Why doesn’t Lebron try a little harder to recruit non-Looney Tunes characters? How did his son get that incredible scanning technology? How would winning a basketball game change anything for Al G Rhythm if he’s already made history by teleporting thousands of people into a server? Who are these Matrix references for? How did Bugs Bunny survive? Why are the Clockwork Orange guys here?

Since his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe more than a decade ago in 2011’s Thor, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has stood out as a super charismatic villain in a sea of less-than-charismatic Marvel villains. Subsequently appearing in several Marvel movies and surviving multiple on-screen deaths, Loki is now the star of his very own series on Disney Plus. Loki definitely raises some questions though. Like why wasn’t Loki’s time travel allowed by the TVA if it’s exactly what caused the Avengers to time travel, which WAS allowed? How does watching a quick video montage completely change Loki, who was literally just slaughtering thousands of people in New York just a few moments ago? How do Loki’s actions in Pompeii not create a butterfly effect, when he causes people to perish in different positions than intended? Has nobody with enchantment powers ever been pruned before? When will we get to see Owen Wilson on a jet ski?

Walt Disney struck gold in 2001 when their movie Pirates of the Caribbean, based on a Disney theme park ride, became a massive international hit and made them tons of money. Since then, they’ve made five Pirates movies and completely milked the franchise for all it’s worth. At the same time, they attempted to adapt other Disney rides into movies, with little to no success. Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland, Country Bears. Now, 20 years after the first pirates movie - their latest attempt is Jungle Cruise! Jungle Cruise definitely raises some questions. Like why is The Rock always in the jungle? Why does this plot sound exactly like The Mummy and like Pirates of the Caribbean at the same time? What’s up with that guy’s face splitting open and snakes jumping out of it? Why does Frank speak perfect modern American English? Why did Lily intend to sacrifice thousands of lives to save a guy that explicitly said he wanted to die?

2016’s Suicide Squad movie by David Ayer had a massive amount of hype surrounding it before release, but unfortunately once the movie came out-- critics and fans alike expressed their disappointment with the film. However, the film made a good amount of money and had a few breakout characters, so here we are for a sequel! Kind of. The Suicide Squad definitely raises some questions. Like does anyone survive this thing? Why does Bloodsport have the same skills and motivation as Deadshot? Why don’t these people have tattoos on their foreheads? How did Rick Flag not hear all that commotion outside his tent? Is Harley Quinn in her own movie here? What are the odds of Bloodsport falling through a building unharmed into the exact spot he needed to?

After the success of The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan was being called “the next Spielberg.” Now, a few decades into his career and a few movies like “The Last Airbender” and “The Happening” under his belt-- he hasn’t really delivered the same level of classics as Spielberg. But, twenty years later, he’s still making films. And Old is one of them. So here we are. OLD definitely raises some questions. Like how has nobody looked into the resort where hundreds of people disappear? Why did they use a famous rapper as a test subject if they’re trying to lay low? If dead cells aren’t affected by the beach, why did Mid-Sized Sedan’s girlfriend decompose so quicky? Why is there a character named Mid-Sized Sedan? What’s up with that baby thing? Michael Bay’s first Transformers movie was a huge success and moneymaker and shot both Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox to superstardom. Naturally a sequel was rushed into production-- which led to it being pretty terribly-received by fans and critics alike. So there was a lot of pressure to make the third movie in the franchise better. Um… Anyway... Transformers: Dark of the Moon definitely raises some questions. Like why did everyone forget about Sam Witwicky’s fame? Why were the Decepticons shooting at Sentinel if he was working with them? How does Sam keep landing these incredible girlfriends? Why didn’t the bad guys kill Sam when they had the chance? Why is Chicago being destroyed? Why did the Autobots allow thousands of people to be killed just to prove a point? Casino Royale took James Bond in an entirely new direction, transforming the somewhat cheesy spy franchise into a more gritty, hardcore version of 007 played by Daniel Craig. The movie was a huge success and a new direction for Bond was officially underway. Naturally, there was a lot of pressure on a sequel to recapture that same magic. It… didn’t? Quantum of Solace definitely raises some questions. Like are we supposed to remember exactly who the minor character is at the beginning of this movie? Why did that undercover agent blow his eight-year infiltration on shooting some random guy and running away? How did M magically heal? What’s the story of this movie? Why did Bond rescue that girl only to hand her off to a random guy? Is Dominic Greene supposed to be an intimidating villain?

Shang-Chi played by Simu Liu is the latest addition to the MCU and it’s therefore time for him to get the traditional superhero origin movie treatment! Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings definitely raises some questions though. Like why did Shang-Chi’s father waste time sending assassins after them? Are those technically rings or bracelets? Why do best friends always insist on saying how long you’ve been friends? Why do they all get put in a cell that’s easy to escape from? How can Trevor Slattery communicate with Morris? The Percy Jackson books are super popular and had Fox played their cards right, they might have had a Harry Potter type franchise on their hands. Unfortunately, after Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief came out in 2011, fans and critics alike didn’t really love what they were doing with the material. But, the movie made enough money to warrant giving the whole thing another shot. Thus, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was born. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters definitely raises some questions. Like why is Poseidon ignoring his son? Why is Tyson here and how can he see with those sunglasses on? How is Luke still alive? Why aren’t more people involved in this quest if annihilation is the possible outcome? Why isn’t Luke using his teleportation device more often? How is Luke surfing off of Percy’s wave? That question is what led to a fourth installment in the Transformers franchise, once again with Michael Bay at the helm. But this time, with a whole new cast of human characters led by Mark Wahlberg… the inventor. Transformers: Age of Extinction definitely raises some questions. Like what happened to Sam Witwicky? Why are the anti-Transformer people working with a Transformer? Why is Cade Yeager such a terrible person? Why are we spending so much time on these creepy Romeo & Juliet laws? Why was there an empty 30-feet deep Transformer-sized hiding spot under Cade’s barn? What happened to the Allspark being the source of the Transformers powers? Like what how did those North Koreans drive through a minefield? How did Bond stop his heart AND fight doctors at the same time? Why can’t that guy get the diamonds out of his face? Why is Jinx swimming with a tactical knife? How is Bond better at fencing than an olympian, after more than a year in prison? What’s up with those special effects?! The 2018 movie starring Tom Hardy was a surprise hit, which naturally led to a sequel. So here we are… Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Venom: Let There Be Carnage definitely raises some questions. Like what’s up with Woody’s wig? Why is Cletus obsessed with Eddie Brock without knowing that he’s Venom? Why are we watching them bicker about doing cool stuff instead of seeing them do the cool stuff? Since when does getting shot give you a contact lens? Did Carnage just hack the Internet?

Like is it dangerous to stand next to exploding graves? Why is that bridge perfectly designed for escapes? Is that De Niro?! How did Blofeld get and use a bionic eyeball and continue to run Spectre with it while in MI6 custody? How do nanobots work? Why did every single member of Spectre get together in one spot? Like how much is 42.6 billion korean won worth in USD? How is this cop so good at infiltrating an organization he knows nothing about? Was there every any doubt as to who would win the tug of war game? Why did Ali have to die? What is going on with those VIPs? Why did nobody try walking on the massive beams in the glass game? So with Craig’s third turn as 007, they had to kick things up a notch from Quantum’s storyline about taking control of… a lake? Skyfall definitely raises some questions though. Like how did James Bond survive that super deadly opening sequence where he definitely should have died? Why would Q plug an expert enemy hacker’s computer directly into the super secret spy computer system? How did Silva know Q would do that? In fact, how did Silva plan that entire escape? And what kind of a survival plan is going to an old house with no weapons and then purposefully luring a supervillain over? Eternals definitely raises some questions. Like should this have been a Disney Plus show? Why do the Eternals only have important conversations at Golden Hour? Why is introducing humans to weapons not considered interfering in their affairs? Wouldn’t the Celestials be interested in stopping Thanos if they need a massive population to birth celestials? But, when Disney acquired the rights a few years ago, they naturally had to give it a shot and see if they could cash in on the popularity of the property. Thus, Home Sweet Home Alone was born. Home Sweet Home Alone definitely raises some questions. Like why did they decide to make the bandits sympathetic? Why did they make the kid so unlikeable? Like was this movie sold on name recognition alone? Why did Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot’s characters even involve Ryan Reynolds in the whole first part of the plan if they just needed the third egg’s location from him? How did they know they’d end up in the same jail cell as him? Why is prison so easy to break out from? How is that 80-year-old vehicle still running, and why is there a waterfall here? The result is Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which sees Jason Reitman (son of the original’s director Ivan Reitman) take the helm and bust some ghosts. Ghostbusters: Afterlife definitely raises some questions though. Like why does everyone go about their lives after witnessing several ghosts fly right by their faces? How was the Statue of Libery walking down the streets of New York not a bigger deal, historically speaking? What’s Finn Wolfhard doing here? Naturally, they had to make some sequels. They had no choice in the matter. John Wick: Chapter 2 definitely raises some questions though. Like why did John think leaving the life in exchange for something that could bring him back at any time was a good move? Why did Santino want to hire the boogeyman, when the job consisted of walking through a secret tunnel? And why hire him of all people if he knew he was going to double-cross him? Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone definitely raises some questions though. Like why is Dumbledore doing such public magic in an effort to not be seen doing magic? Why leave Harry with horrible people and not check in on him? Why send so many letters when Howlers are a thing? Why do they celebrate Christmas? Pretty neat, I guess! John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum definitely raises some questions. Like why did John head directly to one of the most people-dense places on Earth when trying to hide from assassins? How did he get so much done in the 60 minutes before his excommunicado status? Why does everybody insist on talking to John Wick before trying to kill him? Did he just slap a horse? How many favors and symbolic doohickeys does this guy have up his sleeve? Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets definitely raises some questions though. Like why would Hogwarts hire Lockhart and why would he accept, knowing full well that he’s a fraud? Was the Whomping Willow really the best thing they could think of to put on school grounds? Why does the car have a mind of its own? Why did Hagrid send children off to speak to man-eating spiders in the most dangerous forest there is? How did Nearly Headless Nick get unpetrified? Is Fawkes the secret star of this movie?!

The Uncharted movie definitely raises some questions though. Like why were Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg chosen to star as characters they seem nothing like? How has nobody explored the very accessible ancient access points in Barcelona, one of which is literally in a Papa John’s pizza shop? How did Sully and Nathan get into the trunk of that car on the cargo plane? How did Moncado miraculously not lose a single drop of blood? Like why does Batman get shot and play dead SO MANY times? Why is he treating Vicky Vale like that and why is Alfred so into it? Why is Batman sleeping upside down? Like what inspired them to cast Robert Pattinson and Colin Farell? Are these going to get even DARKER? Why doesn’t anyone aim for Batman’s mouth? How freakin’ long is this movie? Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban definitely raises a few questions. Like why was Harry Potter intentionally doing magic outside of Hogwarts? When did the entire layout of Hogwarts and its grounds change so dramatically? How are a bunch of deadly Dementors better than the threat of a single wizard maybe entering the school? Did Fred and George not notice a man named Peter sleeping in their brother’s bed every night on the Marauder’s Map? What exactly were Wormtail and Sirius’s plans here?

Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie starring Micheal Keaton was an absolute worldwide phenomenon, so naturally just a few years later a sequel was made. Not only did Keaton return as Bruce Wayne, but he was joined by Danny Devito as the Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in what would become iconic portrayals of the characters. Batman Returns definitely raises a few questions though. Like if you get rescued by an animal, do you automatically take on its characteristics? Did Max Shreck not clean up after pushing Selina Kyle out of his office window? Why is Batman so thrilled to be killing bad guys, and why did he rip his mask off? How was nobody supsicious of Penguin instantly bringing a baby out of a sewer on a mechanical lift?

Turns out Will Smith was smacking people for saying words he didn’t like long before he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars. In 2008’s Hancock, the once wholesome-seeming superstar took to the big screen as Hancock, the superhero with a drinking and attitude problem. Hancock definitely raises a few questions though. Like did Hancock just kill that train conductor? How did those two prisoners survive that “thing” Hancock did to them? How long was that bank robbery and why did Hancock take his time to get to it? Why does this movie suddenly become a completely different movie half-way through? Why do those bad guys think they stand a chance against the bulletproof superhero? How did Hancock PAINT THE MOON?! Not a whole lot of people enjoyed Jared Leto’s interpretation of The Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad- but Leto was quick to rebound from that and get cast in a Sony Marvel project… which then got delayed several years. Now, in 2022, the world is finally ready to see… Morbius. Morbius definitely raises a few questions. Like why were so many Spider-Man references in the trailers but then not in the movie? Why does bat DNA give him such sculpted abs? Is this the most bloodless vampire movie ever? What happened to that little girl? Why is his assistant/love interest a vampire now? Wasn’t Morbius going to take out Milo AND himself? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Morbius! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

After a rocky start in the public opinion based on some questionable CGI choices, the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie ended up being a surprise hit– and thus, a sequel was ordered almost immediately. This time around, Sonic is joined by other fan favorites from the game– Tails and Knuckles. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 definitely raises a few questions. Like is it okay to travel internationally via portal like that? Why are we spending so much time on this sister-in-law wedding storyline? Does Sonic sometimes forget that he has superspeed? Did Sonic just kill a guy? What was up with that agency’s plan for catching Sonic and how did they think that was a good strategy?! After the Harry Potter film series became one of the most popular of all time, it’s only natural that Warner Bros wanted to keep cashing in on JK Rowling’s magical franchise ones those movies came to a close. Just a few years after Deathly Hallows Part 2, they launched their new “Wizarding World” project with the Fantastic Beasts movie, starring Eddie Redmayne as Nugget Scaffolding– erm- Newt Scamander. Here we are with the third installment of the Beasts movies and… it’s a movie! Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore definitely raises a few questions. Like why is a magical baby deer integral to wizard elections? Why is everyone cool with Grindelwald going from wanted criminal to candidate in a matter of hours? What exactly is everyone doing in this movie? Where’s Tina? Why is this magical world so void of color? Will Producer Guy finally manage to buy Canada?!

His latest movie takes the over-the-topness to a whole new level with Moonfall, the movie where the moon falls. Moonfall definitely raises a few questions. Like why is there so much IBS talk? Why doesn’t anyone seem overly panicked about the massive disasters happening right in frontg of them? Why did they immediately send away all the space experts before exploring their options. Did they helicopter fly INTO that wave? NASA gave up on saving the planet because of budgets? How fast does that Lexus sport mode go?! The early 2000s were the height of Potter-mania, with a brand new movie adaptation of JK Rowling’s bestselling books coming out pretty much every year. The fourth book, Goblet of Fire, is when things got pretty serious and Voldemort made his big return. From being a face on the back of a guy’s head to being a tiny little baby, it really was a big journey for the guy. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire definitely raises a few questions. Like why do wizards insist on making everything deadly and dangerous for their kids? What is everybody even looking at during two of the three Triwizard Tournament challenges? Were the organizers really going to let some kids drown? Why does that ghost keep looking at Harry’s junk? Why is Dumbledore so ANGRY in this movie? And it did exactly that– for a few minutes! Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness definitely raises a few questions. Like what happened to all of Wanda’s character progression from Wandavision? Has she stopped caring about Vision? Did Reed Richards, the smartest man in the universe, really need to tell Wanda exactly how to kill Black Bolt? Are two Stranges throwing music notes at each other? Does believing in yourself really solve everything? Like how much do we actually see Moon Knight in the Moon Knight how? How was it so easy for Harrow to convince the gods that he’s innocent? Why didn’t they just use an iPhone map to check the star map? When is death actually fatal in the MCU? Who knew it was that easy to escape from the afterlife? After Goblet of Fire kicked things up a notch in the Harry Potter Universe with the death of Robert Pattinson’s Cedric Diggory, things got REAL at Hogwarts in Harry’s fifth year. With the Ministry of Magic in full denial mode about Voldemort’s return, Harry and the gang had to train themselves and deal with the crazy authoritarian Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix definitely raises a few questions though. Like how was it okay for them to have Harry do public manage on the way to his hearing for doing public magic? Why didn’t Umbridge break down the wall earlier if they knew where Dumbledore’s Army was practicing? Was that kiss with Cho Chang romantic or creepy? Does the power of friendship really solve everything? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! Disney has been going all-in with their streaming series as a way to really flesh out (and milk) the massive properties in their library. The Mandalorian was the first big streaming hit for Disney Plus and is now paving the way for a TON of other Star Wars projects, as well as serving as a launching pad for some of them. The Mandalorian definitely raises a few questions though. Like how many side quests is Mando trying to complete? Is anything a serious threat when his armor makes him practically invincible? Why did Moff Gideon kill his own men and give up his advantage? Why do the bad guys have a sensitive info terminal that lets you use it if you just have a face? Now, dinosaurs have spread all over the world, which is cool, but also there are some bugs and a kidnapping. And we’re heading back to a dino reserve park. Jurassic World Dominion definitely raises a few questions. Like what are the characters names again? Oh yeah! How strong is Owen Grady, and how FAST is Claire Dearing? At what point did Lewis Dodgson transform into Apple CEO Tim Cook? Do plane crashes ever hurt anyone? What about hypothermia? Did Owen just choke out a dinosaur? How is that hand move so confusing to dinosaurs? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Jurassic World Dominion! After three Toy Story movies wrapped up a touching story started all the way back in 1995, Pixar and Disney decided it was best to leave the franchise alone after such a great accomplishment. Oh, except then they made a fourth one. And now they made a spin-off. But other than that - just a great trilogy left untarnished by corporate greed! Lightyear raises a lot of questions. Like what is this movie exactly? Was this really meant to represent an action movie that came out in the mid 90s? Why did Buzz land the entire colony onto a planet instead of sending a scout to see if it was habitable? Why did we never see a Sox the Cat toy in the Toy Story universe? Didn’t Toy Story 2 establish that Zurg was Buzz’s father and not… himself but from the future? Why is this a completely different version of Buzz than the character people know and love? • S2022E21 Obi-Wan Kenobi

Hello there. As they expand their library of streaming content, Disney has been absolutely churning out streaming shows tied to some of those most popular characters and franchises. After series like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the House of Mouse has now released a show about who is arguably one of the most well-known Star Wars characters- Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan Kenobi raises a lot of questions though. Like how did Obi-Wan intend to protect Luke without keeping up his training in any way? How did Reva know that the powerful Bail Organa would reach out to Obi-Wan instead of his network of people? How is killing a bunch of Jedi a good way to get revenge on the guy who killed a bunch of Jedi? What was up with that weird laser fence scene? How did making a fire help Obi-Wan escape from Vader, who had just started a fire of his own? Why would Obi-Wan leave Darth Vader alive? Stranger Things was an absolute phenomenon for Netflix when it hit their streaming service back in 2016. A whole lot has changed since then, but the show is just as popular as ever with their latest fourth season being ALL OVER SOCIAL MEDIA ALL THE TIME, and even sending a 37 year-old song back to the top of the charts. Stranger Things Season 4 raises a lot of questions though. Like is Vecna from the Magical World of Wizarding? How did both Hopper and Brenner survive? Do loveable new characters always need to die? How did everyone manage to do exactly what needed to be done at the exact same time without communicating with each other? What happened during that two day jump?! Thor: Ragnarok in 2017 completely reinvented the God of Thunder, who, after Thor: The Dark World– many thought had become a pretty boring character. Since Ragnarok was such a hit, it seems like Taiki Waititi was given free reign to do whatever he wanted for the sequel 5 years later. Thor: Love and Thunder raises a lot of questions though. Like did Thor Odinson get dumber? How many times are these goats going to scream? Can we see Gorr the God Butcher butcher some gods sometime? Was that Guardians of the Galaxy tease in Endgame really just for the intro of this movie? If Gorr thought all gods only cared about themselves, why did he assume they would rescue children? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth book in JK Rowling’s massively popular book series and dives into the mystery of the Half-Blood Prince, Voldemort’s backstory, the assassination of Dumbledore, and the teenage romance occurring between the characters at Hogwarts. The movie though seems to spend a whoooooooole lot of time on the romance. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince raises a lot of questions. Like why not use the Felix Felicis liquid luck potion immediately? Or why not use the Truth Serum on Slughorn rather than create a super elaborate plan and hire him as a teacher? Can’t the Weasleys stop their house from burning down? Do Harry and Ginny have any chemistry whatsoever? Netflix has been absolutely churning out content over the past few years, and seem to have settled on a formula that works for them. Attract massive names by paying them a ton of money, and then let those big names draw people to the platform. Oh and also make a movie. After the success of movies like Red Notice and Extraction, Netflix is back with another original action movie, this time starring Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, and Ana de Armas. The Gray Man does raise some questions though. Like why don’t any of these people kill each other when given the chance? Why do Sierra Six’s mentors keep blowing themselves up to buy time? How does Six plan to escape with Claire when she has a trackable pacemaker? What’s with the 10,000 drone shots? Marvel has been going full throttle with their content output in Phase 4. With show after show after show hitting Disney Plus in the past year, some people are saying that superhero fatigue may finally be setting in. So putting out a new series about a character people aren’t super familiar with, starring a newcomer actress was always going to be a challenge, no matter how well-reviewed the show was. Ms. Marvel does raise some questions though. Like, does every single teenage boy have a crush on Kamala? Why is this Damage Control department so bad at their jobs? Does everybody just have elaborate exposition presentations ready to go? What’s up with the sudden time travel? How long did those kids have to rig up the entire school Home Alone style? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Ms. Marvel! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

After the success of The Mandalorian, Disney+, and Lucasfilm have been churning out new Star Wars content like crazy, with lots more on the way. So it makes sense that they wanted to make a show about a cool bounty hunter in Mandalorian armor, because, well, that seemed to work well the first time? Thus, everyone’s favorite bounty hunter from the original trilogy is back in The Book of Boba Fett. The Book of Boba Fett does raise some questions though. Like did he or did he not come out of the Sarlac Pit with his armor? Why isn’t this crime lord committing any crimes? Why did that one dude do such a weird spin move in the middle of a battle? Did this just become season 2.5 of The Mandalorian?! To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to The Book of Boba Fett! Their latest star-studded film is “The Day Shift” – a vampire hunting movie starring Jamie Foxx, James Franco, and Snoop Dogg. One thing is for sure… this is one of the movies of all time. Day Shift does raise some questions. Like why are we spending so much time on worldbuilding stuff that never comes up again? Who is buying all these fangs and why? How many peepee poopoo jokes are in this thing? Is the bad guy trying to take over the housing market AND bring back the rule of vampires? How did Snoop survive? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is the beginning of the final adventure for Harry and the gang as they set off to destroy a bunch of Horcruxes and do a WHOLE lot of camping. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 does raise some questions. Like why did all the good guys think that having a massive party at a house that was already destroyed by Death Eaters was a good idea? And where did Harry get that mirror shard? And how thick is this dude’s plot armor? How many wildly different functions do these magical do-hickeys have? Now, as they slowly run out of classics to remake, they’ve finally landed on one of their very first animated films ever… Pinocchio! In the midst of all the chaos, it’s been easy to forget that there’s an actual movie surrounding the drama! Don’t Worry Darling definitely raises some questions. Like what is going on, and will we get any answers for any of it? How does this simulation thing even work? How is Jack’s simulation life any better than his previous life? How does this simulation not have any safeguards against escape? What was the point of the electroshock therapy if it doesn’t even hold for five minutes? Why did Harry name his kid Albus Severus? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2!

Actually, he’s not really in this movie, but he’s definitely on the posters and in the trailers. So that’s pretty cool! Halloween Ends definitely raises some questions. Like why, in this movie marketed as the epic final showdown between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, are we spending 90% of our time with a new dude named Corey? Why did Michael go from being an unstoppable force of evil in the last movie to being a weak old man living in the sewer? Like why are Atom Smasher and Cyclone even in this movie? What was up with that Eternium stuff that made Black Adam weak? Why was that kid always skateboarding? It seems like every single week in 2022 there has been a new episode of some kind of Marvel property. The latest one to hit the tiny screen is She-Hulk starring Tatiana Maslany. She-Hulk definitely raises some questions. Like, what is this show trying to be? Why is Jennifer so amazing at being a Hulk right away? Does that fourth-wall-breaking stuff feel kinda weird to anyone else in the grand scheme of the MCU? Can She-Hulk solve all problems moving forward by complaining to Marvel? Like will Maverick ever get in trouble? Is this the plot of Star Wars? Do any of these jets have security? Why are they so easy to steal? Do shirtless beach games really lead to such camaraderie? Was that a war crime? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to the Top Gun: Maverick!

And then to make sure it was really good they spent another 750 million on production. So there you have it. One billion dollars! Instant classic, guaranteed! Right? That’s how it works, right? The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power definitely raises some questions. Like why is Galadriel so invincible and powerful? What were the odds of her stumbling upon Sauron in the middle of the ocean? Was she really just planning on swimming across an ocean to get home? Are volcanic eruptions not a huge deal? What was with that weird Rube Goldberg set-up at Mordor? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to the The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power!

Like why didn’t Superman tell Lois he was leaving? How did nobody realize that Clark and Superman left and returned on the very same day five years apart? Why did Lex hook up with an old lady, and why he is obsessed with this weird island idea of his? Does kryptonite take away Superman’s powers or not? Avatar: The Way Of Water definitely raises some questions. Like why spend so much money bringing back Colonel Quarritch to life, the guy who famously failed the last time he attempted something similar to this mission? Why does Jake suddenly decide that it’s suddenly time to run away after literally heading into battle regularly? Where did all the ocean people go in the third act? After the success of 2009’s Avatar, Hollywood was determined to make Sam Worthington the next big leading man. Along with Terminator: Salvation, he was put at the forefront of several huge productions– one of which was a remake of the 1981 film Clash of the Titans. Clash of the Titans definitely raises some questions though. Like why is this called Clash of the Titans when there are zero titans in it? What’s the Kraken doing here in a Greek Mythology story? What was the point of those two guys who show up for a bit and then randomly leave? Why was Perseus so selective about which god gifts to accept? Why didn’t Zeus bring back his family in the end? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Clash of the Titans.

Why does the guy who hates magic use so much magic? Why is Goody Addams named Addams?! To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Wednesday.

HBO Max decided to dive into the adult animation arena with VELMA, the Scooby Doo spinoff from Mindy Kaling. Despite negative reviews from pretty much everyone, the show seems to be the talk of the Internet. Or maybe that’s because of them… Velma definitely raises some questions. Like where’s Scooby Doo in the Scooby Doo show? Why is every single character just a completely different person than the character they’re based on? Why is everyone so mean? Why does everyone love Velma? Why are they trying so hard to be snarky and meta? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Velma.

    • YouTube

The past two decades have been jampacked with multiple movie franchises focused on teens stuck in some kind of game-based dystopia where their lives are at risk and everyone is dressed in gray. Along with The Hunger Games and Divergent, The Maze Runner is definitely on the list of the most well-known within that genre. The Maze Runner definitely raises some questions though. Like did they REALLY try everything to reach the top of those walls? How much time did these people spend naming things? How do they know what grievers are if they only come out in the maze at night, and nobody has survived a night in the maze? Do any questions get answered in this movie? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Maze Runner.

It’s already been eight years since Paul Rudd joined the MCU as Ant-Man, and this third movie in the series sees him kicking off Phase 5. So with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel really had to start this new phase off with a bang. While some may argue that they didn’t succeed in that, one thing is for sure: they kicked it off with some naked MODOK butt. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania definitely raises some questions. Like why did Janet keep such a big secret from everyone for SO LONG into the movie? What’s going on with MODOK’s face? If Kang is the big bad of the next two phases, why did we just watch him get beat up by some bugs? Did anything really change after this movie? The DCEU is about to undergo some major reworking and restructuring under the leadership of James Gunn. But before that kicks into gear, there are still a few projects that need to be released… since they were already made. One of those is Shazam! Fury of the Gods! A movie that exists and that has bombed at the box office (Maybe because James Gunn indirectly told people that it doesn’t really matter? Or maybe because Dwayne Johnson stole away its main antagonist? Who knows!) Shazam! Fury of the Gods definitely raises some questions. Like why isn’t Black Adam in this thing? Why did that 6,000 year old fall in love with a high school kid? How much did Skittles pay for that product placement? Can Wonder Woman resurrect people now? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

The YA-novel-turned-film-series craze was still raging on in the mid 2010’s and the Maze Runner movies definitely rode that wave. Based on the James Dashner series, the movies kind of… did their own thing? Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials definitely raises some questions. Like where are the trials? Why was one of the most suspicious-looking actors cast when someone trustworthy would have helped drive the twist home? Where are the mazes, and why is nobody running in them?! Is Minho trying to get himself kiled?! To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Finally, the multiple decades have seemingly allowed the Nintendo Corporation to cool off and give Mario and Luigi another shot at cashing in in Hollywood. The Super Mario Bros. Movie definitely raises some questions. Like why was there a warp pipe under the streets of Brooklyn? Why did Princess Peach bring up her mysterious past and then not explain any further? What are these power-up boxes and how did they get there? Why didn’t Toad have to do that obstacle course, and why did Mario have to spend so much time doing it only to fail? Since the first season of The Mandalorian in 2019 was well-received by critics and audiences alike, Disney has been going all-in on their streaming series set in the Star Wars universe. With reception getting colder and colder with each passing show, there was some hope that the third season of their hit show would turn the tides a little. It… does not seem to have done that. The Mandalorian Season 3 definitely raises some questions. Like why do these Star Wars shows keep making their main characters into side characters? Why do bad guys keep “somehow returning”? Are we ever going to see Mando’s face again, or is Pedro Pascal just over all of this? Why does the plot meander for so long and then suddenly pick up steam in the last two episodes? Is this show over now? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Mandalorian Season 3!

t’s been nearly a decade since James Gunn brought the Guardians of the Galaxy into the MCU, and arguably changed the direction of the entire cinematic universe. The success of that first movie opened the door for Marvel to explore lesser-known comic book characters and also seemingly gave them the green light to go all-in on comedy beats (for better or for worse.) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 definitely raises some questions. Like what's Adam Warlock actually doing in this movie? How did they make High Evolutionary so despicable so quickly? Are kids gonna be okay after all that intense animal stuff? Why didn't Star-Lord have his helmet and boots? With the franchise having gone to space in the last installment, what more is there for the Fast Family to do at this point? Just keep going on, looks like. Fast X definitely raises some questions. Like how did they land on that title? How many people from Dom’s past are out there right now plotting revenge? What’s with the tourism stop after getting on the most wanted list? What was that ENTIRE scene with Pete Davidson?? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Fast X!

Disney has been rampaging through their list of classic animated films and remaking them with a blend of live-action and CGI. The next on the list is The Little Mermaid! Because they WILL do to every animated movie they’ve ever released. They will. The Little Mermaid definitely raises some questions. Like why do all the creatures have to look so real? Why is Flounder scary? If Ursula can just lie and cheat, why even bother with a deal? Did Eric actually fall in love or was he just under the spell of the Siren call? How many of these remakes are left? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Little Mermaid!

Ever since the first Transformers movie became a worldwide phenomenon over fifteen years ago, Paramount has been churning out movies in the franchise every few years. The latest entry into the giant-robots-punching-each other film series is here, starring Anthony Ramos as the latest human-person-down-on-their-luck-who-discovers-a-Transformer. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts definitely raises some questions. Like why are we barely seeing the beasts when the movie title promises that they’ll be rising? Does continuity matter at all, or are we just done with that? What kind of Macguffin is everyone after this time? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Rise of the Beasts!

The DCEU has never had an easy go over the course of its 10-year existence, with most movies getting slammed by critics. But all that is set to change with the release of The Flash. Just kidding. The Flash dove deep into development hell, with a constant change in directors, writers, and some notably erratic and violent behavior from star Ezra Miller. The Flash definitely raises some questions. Like was this entire production cursed? Can people handle two Ezra Millers? How many insane events happened in one day in 2013? Did Barry learn a lesson at the end of this or not? How many cameos can they shove into this thing? What was with that CGI? What if an older Indiana Jones came back for one last big adventure? Wouldn’t that be crazy? But wait, what if an older Indiana Jones came back for one last big adventure AGAIN? Ahhh well if that sounds like a good time, you’re in luck! Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny definitely raises some questions. Like did they copy/paste this premise from The Force Awakens? Why do all older Harrison Ford characters now have terrible lives? How did Zoller survive without a scratch the exact thing that took out Dennis Hopper in Speed? How do these bad guys keep knowing where to pop out? How hard to Helena punch Indy to drag him from Ancient Greece all the way to New York City? Christopher Nolan has made a name for himself making intellectual mind-bendy movies with films like Memento, Inception and Tenet. Let’s just say it, the dude is a little obsessed with time. He’s one of the few filmmakers making truly “epic” movies, and it’s really cool when you can understand them. Interstellar definitely raises some questions though. Like why doesn’t anyone seem to care about Tom? Why did they decide to go down to that time dilation planet first? Why did they try to collect that worthless data? Why was there a Matt Damon jumpscare on the second planet? Why did Tom name his kid Coop Cooper? Why did Cooper send the same “stay” message that he knew did not get him to stay? Disney and Marvel Studios have been absolutely churning out content in the past few years with a ton of shows hitting their streaming service Disney+. Secret Invasion has come out after a deluge of other superhero shows and people seem to be… tired of this? Secret Invasion definitely raises some questions. Like why didn’t the show play more with the mystery of who is a Skrull and who isn’t? Why doesn’t Nick Fury call the Avengers? If this fight is so personal, why doesn’t he actually fight it? How are all the powers in the final fight even being used? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Secret Invasion!

Jason Statham fighting giant prehistoric sharks. That’s maybe the easiest pitch that’s ever been made, and first Meg movie made over half a billion dollars thanks to that awesome sounding premise. And when something makes half a billion dollars, you can bet we’re going to see some more of it. Meg 2: The Trench definitely raises some questions. Like why is this shark movie mostly about humans running around doing sketchy stuff? How did Jason Statham free dive at 25,000 feet? Wait, these movies are based on books? Where did that Kraken come from and why isn’t anyone talking about it? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Meg 2: The Trench!

In the midst of a major reshuffling within the DCU, a few movies are just kind of floating in in-betweenland. Movies like The Flash and Shazam 2 Fury of the Gods basically flopped, at least partially due to the fact that audiences aren’t really sure if they’re supposed to care or not. Blue Beetle is the latest movie in that trend, that’s maybe starting off the James Gunn DC reign? Maybe? But also just kind of doing it’s own thing? Blue Beetle definitely raises some questions. Like why does this movie look so familiar? Why is this the 10,000th evil business person that wants to use a supersuit to sell as weapons? Why does that guy on the Big Belly Burger box look so much like Screenwriter Guy? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Blue Beetle!

Adam Driver fighting dinosaurs with sci-fi weapons sounds like a surefire concept that’s guaranteed to be entertaining. But somehow, when 65 hit theatres, critics weren’t impressed and audiences weren’t present. 65 definitely raises some questions. Like why did they insist on spelling out this concept so much and ridding it of any mystery? Why do these aliens look, sound, move and measure things exactly like us? Why are all these dinosaurs so angry at these humans? What are the odds of them landing on Earth like a day before the asteroid hits? Like why are we spending so much time in a field of dreams? How is there only like one jumpscare in this thing? The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes definitely raises some questions. Like did they set out to make the longest title possible?
