Das einst bettelarme, von Kolonialherrschaft, Kriegen und Planwirtschaft gepeinigte Land
ist in den letzten beiden Jahrzehnten aufgeblüht. Die Film-Reise beginnt in der Hauptstadt Hanoi. Mit ihren Seen, französischen Kolonialbauten und der wuseligen Altstadt ist die Millionenmetropole eine der schönsten Städte Asiens. Die Berge des Nordens locken mit Trekkingtouren zu den zahlreichen Bergvölkern und dem lebhaften Städtchen Sa Pa. Auf dem Wasserweg geht es durch die Halong-Bucht mit ihren tausenden Kalkstein-Inseln. In Zentral-Vietnam reihen sich die alte Kaiserstadt Hue, das malerische Hoi An, einst einer der wichtigsten Häfen Asiens, und die Ruinen der Tempelstadt My Son, dem spirituellen Zentrum des Königreichs der Cham, aneinander. Von Nha Trang, dem Nizza des Orients mit seinen Stränden und vorgelagerten Inseln, geht es hinauf nach Da Lat, der einstigen Sommerfrische der französischen Kolonialherren. Das brodelnde Saigon, wirtschaftliches Landeszentrum und eine der boomenden Megastädte Asiens, bietet das ganze Spektrum: Koloniale Pracht und moderne Wolkenkratzer, Tempel und Pagoden, bunte Märkte und schicke Einkaufsmeilen. Das Mekong-Delta prägen Wasserstraßen und schwimmende Märkte. In den Tunneln von Cu Chi werden die Schrecken des Vietnamkrieges lebendig.

With its lakes and the bustling old town the metropolis is one of the most beautiful cities in Asia. The waterway takes you through Halong Bay with its thousands of limestone islands. In central Vietnam, the ancient imperial city of Hue, picturesque Hoi An, once one of the most important ports in Asia, and the ruins of the temple city of My Son are lined up. From Nha Trang, the Nice of the Orient it goes up to Da Lat, the former summer resort of the French colonial masters. Boiling Saigon, the economic center of the country, offers the whole spectrum: colonial splendor and modern skyscrapers, temples and pagodas, colorful markets and chic shopping streets.
