Rodrigo Pimentel

Rodrigo Rodrigues Pimentel, better known as Captain Pimentel, is a former Brazilian military officer. He served as an officer in the Rio de Janeiro Military Police from 1990 to 2004, and as a captain in the BOPE (National Guard) from 1994 to 2000. Pimentel joined the police force at 19 and resigned at 33, currently working as a security consultant. He holds a postgraduate degree in urban sociology from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He was a columnist for Jornal do Brasil and co-producer of the documentary Ônibus 174 (Bus 174). His first exposure to film was during the production of Notícias de uma Guerra Particular (News of a Private War). It was during the filming of the documentary Ônibus 174 (Bus 174), about the hijacking of bus 174 in Rio de Janeiro, that Pimentel expressed his interest in writing a fictional account of the Rio de Janeiro police force, based on accounts from friends and his own experience in the BOPE. The idea for Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad) was born. In 2005, with the film's script already in progress, Pimentel co-wrote the book "Elite da Tropa" with Luiz Eduardo Soares and André Batista. He also worked as a security commentator for Rede Globo and appeared on the first edition of RJTV until his departure in 2015.
