Akagi: Yami ni Oritatta Tensai (アカギ 〜闇に降り立った天才〜, lit. "Akagi: The Genius Who Descended into Darkness") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nobuyuki Fukumoto. First published in 1991 in Takeshobo's weekly magazine Kindai Mahjong, it is a spin-off prequel of the author's previous work, Ten. It revolves around Shigeru Akagi, a boy who defeats yakuza members well versed in mahjong at 13. He returns to the game six years later, carrying a mythical status and still impresses his opponents.

Shakugan no Shana (Japanese: 灼眼のシャナ, lit. "Burning-Eyed Shana"), also known simply as Shana (シャナ), is a Japanese light novel series written by Yashichiro Takahashi with illustrations by Noizi Ito. The story focuses on Yuji Sakai, a high school boy who becomes involved in an age-old conflict between forces of balance and imbalance in existence; in the process, he befriends a fighter for the balancing force and names her "Shana". The series also incorporates fantasy and slice of life elements.
The action takes place in the fictional Japan of the year 2030, where the members of the special unit "Section 9" are entrusted with solving various cases of crime, espionage and terrorism. This also includes the case of the "Laughing Man", which caused a stir some time ago, but was never cleared up by the responsible police department. In the course of their own investigation, Section 9 members discover that the Laughing Man case is far more complex than it first appears.
