This Fox comedy broke the mold of unbelievably selfless family characters which had become the norm in American sitcoms of the 1980's. Al Bundy, shoe salesman, fears the frequent amorous advances of his ditsy wife Peggy, who henpecks him and frivolously spends all of his money, reliving his 4 touchdowns in a single game at high school. Supporting characters include their two shallow, self-serving teenage children Kelly and Bud, as well as nosy neighbor Marcy and her husband.

Im direkten Vergleich zu den Bundys konnte die Serie zwar bessere Zuschauerzahlen erzielen, für den damaligen Sendeplatz am Donnerstag Abend in der Primetime reichte dies jedoch nicht. Die Serie wurden deshalb nach nur einer Staffel eingestellt.

It was a remake of the American sitcom Married... with Children The Bundys were renamed as the Butlers, Russ Abbot played Ted/Al, Susan Kydd was Pam/Peggy, Lucy Blakely played Nikki/Kelly, and Peter England was Lee/Bud. The D'Arcys were renamed Hollingsworth and the Steve character was recast with Hugh Bonneville and Marcy was renamed Judy and played by Julie Dawn Cole.
