On their escape to Hiraizumi, Yoshitsune and his retainers arrive in Kaga, the current southern part of Ishikawa Prefecture. At a woodcutter’s house where they spend a night, Yoshitsune happens to meet Tomoe, who is now the wife of the woodcutter. Tomoe thanks him for having encouraged her to live, and this time, she urges him not to give up. Leaving Tomoe’s house, Yoshitsune and his retainers get to the checkpoint at Ataka. Since Yoritomo’s order to capture Yoshitsune has been reached the checkpoint, the officials investigate them strictly. When they are about to pass the checkpoint, the checkpoint officer shows up and stops them. Trying to escape, Benkei tells the officer that they are monks and on the way to Mount Haguro raising money to rebuild the Buddhist sanctum of Todaiji Temple. However, the officer feels suspicious of them and tells Benkei to show him "kanjincho,
平泉を目指す義経(滝沢秀明)主従は、追捕の目をくぐり加賀国へ。きこりに宿を借りた義経は、その妻・巴(小池栄子)と再会。母となった巴は、生きていてよかったと義経に感謝し、決してあきらめるなと励ます。翌日、安宅の関に向かった一行は、関守の富樫(石橋蓮司)に呼び止められる。先を急ぐ一行を不審に思った富樫は、東大寺大仏殿再建の勧進をしているという弁慶(松平健)に、勧進帳を見せろと迫る。
