The first season of When Calls the Heart follows Elizabeth Thatchers' (Erin Krakow) arrival in Coal Valley, a rural mining town devastated by a mine explosion. As the townspeople heal, Elizabeth gets involved in the community and sparks friendships with the widows and a love interest with Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). While Elizabeth and Jack turn to each other for comfort during the hardest of times in Coal Valley, their relationship is tested at every turn, forcing them to make difficult decisions in life and love that will change their paths forever.
