Představte si střet kultur... No spíš si rovnou představte totální bouračku dvou kultur. Danovi a jeho ženě Karině se převrátí život vzhůru nohama, když jejich dcera udělá maturitu, přijmou ji na vysokou školu a taky ji někdo zbouchne! Jenže to není konec příběhu. Ještě víc jsou zděšení, že tatínkem je běloch, kterého budou muset přijmout do své hispánské rodiny. Následuje rychlokurz do obou kultur. Zatímco tatínci (budoucí dědečci) navazují vztah velice obezřetně, tak maminky si díky lásce k dětem padnou do oka rychleji. A i když to vypadá, že se jejich děti opravdu milují a se svým novým životem to myslí vážně, tak se budou muset hodně snažit, aby všechno klapalo...

Die beiden Teenager Miguel Hernandez jr., genannt Junior (Joseph Haro), und Molly Yoder (Ella Rae Peck) stehen vor dem Highschool-Abschluss, was auch ihre Eltern erfreut. Dan (O’Malley) und Caroline Yoder (McCormack) freuen sich darauf, dass ihre Tochter nun studieren wird – und vielleicht auch ein bisschen zu sehr, dass sie dabei wegziehen wird und das Ehepaar sein Leben und das Haus wieder vollkommen für sich hat. Miguel (Chavira) und Lisette Hernandez (Machado) hingegen sind enorm stolz darauf, dass der Sohn Jahrgangsbester geworden ist und auf eine Prestige-Uni gehen kann, nachdem sie selbst wegen ihrer bescheidenen Herkunft nicht die Möglichkeit hatten zu studieren. Das alles implodiert, als Junior und Molly erkennen, dass sie Nachwuchs erwarten. Die beiden lieben einander und beschließen, eine Familie zu gründen. Doch früher oder später müssen sie die Schwangerschaft auch ihren Eltern beichten. So organisieren sie ein Familienessen, für das sie die große Enthüllung planen. Doch die Väter geraten schon im Vorfeld in Streit und tun sich auch später alles andere als leicht damit, einander zu akzeptieren. Nicht zuletzt, weil beide unterschwellig davon überzeugt sind, dass das Kind des anderen die „blendende Zukunft“ des eigenen Kindes ruiniert hat. Insbesondere auf Dan wartet noch eine weitere Überraschung …

Parents Dan Yoder and wife Karina find out their daughter Molly is pregnant on the same day that she is graduating from high school with an acceptance to college. Across town in East L.A., Junior Hernandez, in the middle of his high school valedictorian speech, gets a text from girlfriend Molly that he’s going to be a daddy. Expectedly, Junior’s parents Miguel and Lisette are also upset, as they now have Caucasians in the family. What follows is a crash course in culture blending as Molly and Junior decide they want to get married, thus bringing together two very different families. The dads have the most difficult time reconciling while the moms take a softer approach. When the parents realize their kids are serious about making a life together, they begin to come to terms with this new blended family and understand it will take humor, love and tolerance to make it all work.

Le jour de la cérémonie de remise des diplômes, Molly Yoder annonce à ses parents Dan et Caroline qu'elle est enceinte, ruinant leur plan pour passer un peu de temps seuls après son départ pour l'Arizona State University. Le père de l'enfant est Junior Hernandez, un garçon d'origine latine qui est un motif de fierté pour sa famille parce qu'il est le premier à aller à l'université. En raison de la grossesse et de la décision de Molly et Junior de se marier, les deux familles, très différentes culturellement, sont obligées de se réunir et de s'entendre : les pères ont le plus de difficulté, tandis que les mères commencent une approche plus souple pour se connaître les uns les autres un peu à la fois.

Los padres Dan Yoder y su esposa Karina descubren que su hija Molly está embarazada el mismo día en que se gradúa de la escuela secundaria con una aceptación en la universidad. Al otro lado de la ciudad, en East L.A., Junior Hernández, en medio de su discurso de graduación de la escuela secundaria, recibe un mensaje de texto de su novia Molly que dice que él será un padre. Como era de esperar, los padres de Junior, Miguel y Lisette, también están molestos, ya que ahora tienen caucásicos en la familia. Lo que sigue es un curso intensivo de mezcla de culturas cuando Molly y Junior deciden que quieren casarse, reuniendo así a dos familias muy diferentes. I genitori Dan Yoder e la moglie Karina scoprono che la figlia Molly è incinta lo stesso giorno in cui si sta diplomando con l'accettazione all'università. Dall'altra parte della città a East L.A., Junior Hernandez, nel bel mezzo del suo discorso al liceo, riceve un messaggio dalla fidanzata Molly che sta per diventare papà. Inaspettatamente, anche i genitori di Junior Miguel e Lisette sono sconvolti, dato che ora hanno caucasici in famiglia. Quello che segue è un corso intensivo di fusione culturale, in cui Molly e Junior decidono di volersi sposare, riunendo così due famiglie molto diverse. I papà hanno più difficoltà a riconciliarsi mentre le mamme hanno un approccio più morbido. Quando i genitori si rendono conto che i loro figli sono seriamente intenzionati a farsi una vita insieme, cominciano a fare i conti con questa nuova famiglia mista e capiscono che ci vorranno umorismo, amore e tolleranza per far funzionare tutto.
