The true crime genre has proven to be a rich source of material for filmmakers throughout the decades, and perhaps none more so than the 2000s. That decade brought to life classic unsolved cases such as the murder of Elizabeth Short in The Black Dahlia and the search for the Zodiac Killer in Zodiac. Serial killers were also brought to the big screen such as the story of Aileen Wuornos in Monster and Jeffrey Dahmer in Dahmer, both of which stirred controversy. Although these films may at times stretch the truth, they largely stick to the facts, which are indeed stranger than fiction in most cases. Which are still worth watching decades later, and which are best left forgotten?
