主人公の朋ほう太子だいし由ゆ寿ずは、就職活動中に読んだヨーグルトを題材にした創作小説にハマり、小説内で登場する“ブルガリア菌”の大ファンになる。そんな由寿を見た“吾輩”こと乳酸菌（ブルガリア菌20388株）はパッケージから飛び出し、由寿には見えない存在として彼女にとり憑き、行く末を見守ることに。就活と推し活に勤しむ中、1年後には老舗食品メーカーの「株式会社明和」へ就職し、晴れて社会人としての生活をスタートさせた由寿。同期たちが皆、人事部長からの辞令を受け取る中、由寿の勤務先はまさかの大阪に…。不安を抱えながら、新天地の大阪で社会人としての門出をスタートさせる。
