Willy Brandt , Chancellor of West Germany talks to Lord Chalfont about his life and times. He was born Herbert Frahm in Liibeck in 1913. He worked in the anti-Nazi underground under the assumed name by which he has been known ever since. By the age of 19 he was a man on the run. He spent 12 years in exile in Scandinavia. He became world-famous as governing Mayor of West Berlin at the height of the Cold War. Now he is the first Socialist Chancellor of the West German Federal Republic and indisputably one of the greatest Europeans alive today.
