John has been transferred to the Mater for spinal surgery after falling 20 feet onto a concrete floor, breaking his back. Without surgery, John’s back would collapse and he would be left paralysed. Eoin O’Gorman arrives to Beaumont Hospital after doctors at Naas General Hospital discovered a bleed on his brain. It has left him barely able to use the right side of his body. Surgeons will have to bore two holes in Eoin’s skull to release the pressure on his brain; a procedure that can have serious risks. Eoin’s wife Margaret informs the head consultant Mr Moshen Javadpour that if Eoin goes into cardiac arrest, he does not want him to be resuscitated. Retired forestry professor Máirtín Mac Siúrtáin is rushed to St. Vincent’s Emergency Department after getting both of his hands caught in his tractor while trying to fell a tree. Soon after arriving in Vincent’s the emergency consultant discovers that Máirtín’s heart rate is unusually high. This could be a sign of an underlying serious heart condition, and one that will need immediate action. In St. Vincent’s 75-year-old Mahon Murphy is rushed in after he fell 15-foot from a ladder in his garden directly onto concrete. Although Mahon’s main concern is his shoulder, the emergency team remain concerned about any possible internal organ damage.
