Planting season for America's oldest and richest cash crop, dark fire tobacco, is under way in Adairville. The Gainous farm welcomes home college student Zeke, but will he be up to snuff working the farm after spending so much time away at school? Over on the Law farm, Mark Law does battle with his two best workers -- his daughters -- who just can't seem to get to work on time.
It's the most dangerous time of dark fire tobacco season -- lighting fires inside the barns to smoke cure the tobacco. Everything appears to be going well for the Gainous farm until Scott receives an emergency call. Meanwhile on the Law farm, it's Hope's birthday, and she wants her dad to throw a big bash and pig roast, but they'll have to get creative in order to pay for it.
Halfway through the season, the farms get a brief moment of quiet, so Scott and Nick decide to throw a big party. But when they trek into the woods to secure some moonshine from a secret location, they stumble upon some trouble. Meanwhile Nick's sister Jess attempts to give their father Bud -- a former crop duster who hasn't flown in decades -- the gift of flying, but will it take off?
The Gainous and Law farms take part in a tobacco-cutting contest. Meanwhile, Randy dives into an old well to hunt for abandoned treasures; and the tobacco farmers of Adairville help a struggling neighbor.
