John Raleigh Braling is a computer salesman who receives a cryptic message on his computer screen. Later he receives the same message in a newspaper and on a lunch bill. He tracks down source of the messages and meets a man who offers to sell him a robot replica of himself.

John Raleigh Braling est un vendeur d'ordinateurs qui reçoit un message chiffré sur son écran d'ordinateur. Plus tard, il reçoit le même message dans un journal et sur une facture de déjeuner. Il retrouve la source des messages et rencontre un homme qui lui propose de lui vendre une réplique robot de lui-même.
