Die "Mercury" empfängt einen Notruf von dem Kriegsschiff "Rhesos", das auf dem Planeten Trion die angeblich grausamen Ureinwohner getötet hat, um ihn mit Menschen zu besiedeln. Auf Trion findet sich keine Spur der Crew der "Rhesos". Über Video berichtet deren Kommandant O'Brian von einer rätselhaften Bedrohung. Scheinbar hat eine Art Virus sein Gehirn befallen und ihn in den Wahnsinn getrieben - und dieser Virus befällt auch die Mannschaft der "Mercury" und gelangt zur Erde.
The UFS Mercury is in route to the planet Trion to do scientific tests in preparation to establish a colony when they get a distress call from a battleship, the UFS Rhesos. It was only weeks ago the the Rhesos dropped bombs on Trion, killing the local flora and fauna, making it ready for colonization. When the crew of the Mercury boards the Rhesos, they quickly realize that things are not as they should be.

El UFS Mercury está en camino al planeta Trion para hacer pruebas científicas en preparación para establecer una colonia cuando reciben una llamada de socorro de un acorazado, el UFS Rhesos. Hace solo unas semanas, el Rhesos lanzo bombas sobre Trion, matando la flora y la fauna locales, preparándolas para la colonización. Cuando la tripulación del Mercury sube al Rhesos, se dan cuenta rápidamente de que las cosas no son como deberían ser.
