Ein neues gentechnisches Verfahren ermöglicht es, die DNS von Kindern zu manipulieren. Auch Howard und seine Frau Joanne wollen ihr Kind genetisch verändern lassen. Das Verfahren hat jedoch einen Fehler: Einige der Kinder entwickeln sich zu aggressiven Monstern.
Howard and Joanne Sharp are going to have a baby. Like many people in the near future, they are mulling over the possibility of black-market genetic enhancement. The upside is a perfect baby, able to compete with all those other perfect babies created by the popular, but illegal process. The downside is GRS - Genetic Rejection Syndrome - which turns one in every 10,000 genetically enhanced babies into a monster. The Sharps are willing to take the risk and go ahead with the procedure. Then they learn of the dark secret that their neighbors and best friends, Tony and Fran Blake, keep in the basement.
Howard et Joanne Sharp sont sur le point d'avoir un bébé. Comme la plupart des gens dans un futur proche, ils ont la possibilité d'avoir recours au marché noir de la génétique. Ils ont la possibilité de créer le bébé parfait mais dans l'illégalité totale. Malheureusement, une autre de leur recherche peut conduire à la création d'un bébé monstrueux. Les Sharps prennent tout de même le risque... ils apprennent ensuite que leurs voisins gardent un lourd secret dans leur cave...
Una pareja decide tener un hijo mejorado genéticamente y para ello recurren a una clínica clandestina, ya que no es legal. Sin saberlo, el hijo de sus mejores amigos fue concebido de este modo, y desarrolló el SRG, síndrome que provoca deformidades y vuelve violentos a 1 de cada 10.000 niños modificados. La pareja decide tener el hijo mejorado, pero al descubrir que el de sus vecinos desarrolló el síndrome, dan marcha atrás.
