The story of a couple Simon and Emma, who moved to a peaceful town in the east of Scotland, where they received a less than cheery welcome from their neighbours, and soon suspected the animosity they faced had something to do with their 11 children and two huskies. Plus, a feud that erupted after a fuchsia bush threatened to scratch one homeowner's beloved classic car in Portsmouth, and a tit-for-tat dispute over a boundary fence in a Manchester suburb, leading to the erection of an ugly concrete barrier.
Als Simon seine Arbeit verliert, zieht er mit Ehefrau Emma und ihren neun Kindern in ein kleines schottisches Dorf, wo ihnen vom Sozialamt ein frisch renoviertes Reihenhaus zugewiesen wird. Die Familie kann ihr Glück kaum fassen. Doch schon kurz nach dem Einzug sehen Emma und Simon, dass sie unerwünscht sind. Ständig klingeln unfreundliche Nachbarn und beschweren sich über Lärm, auch wenn alles ruhig ist. Die Polizei ist Dauergast in ihrem Haus, weil die Kinder angeblich schreien oder sich prügeln. Simon bleibt gelassen, doch eines Abends klicken die Handschellen und der Familienvater wird festgenommen.
