Fran ist verbittert, weil ihre Oma zum zweiten Mal heiratet, während sie selbst noch Single ist. Ihr Therapeut Dr. Miller empfiehlt ihr, sich auf ein anderes Ziel zu konzentrieren. So beschließt Fran, Wetterfee beim Fernsehen zu werden. Maxwell macht sich über diesen Plan lustig, da er nicht glaubt, dass sie irgendwelche Chancen hat. Yettas Ehemann, Sammy, hat zufällig einen Neffen beim TV: den Moderator Bryant Gumbel. Kurzerhand schickt er Fran zu Bryant. Da es in dessen Show aber leider gar keinen Wetterbericht gibt, lässt er Fran als Gastkommentatorin vorsprechen. Doch weil Fran nicht einmal ihr Stichwort „Gentherapie“ versteht, ist die Sache für sie schnell gelaufen. Ihr einziger Trost ist, dass Maxwell insgeheim sehr wohl Angst hatte, dass sie Erfolg haben könnte. Denn er hatte bereits einen Plan ausgeheckt, wie Grace Fran zum Bleiben bewegen soll.
Upset about Yetta's upcoming wedding, Fran is advised by Dr. Miller to focus her energy on new life projects. She decides to pursue an old dream of becoming a weather girl, and thanks to Sammy, who's Bryant Gumbel uncle, Fran scores an audition for editorial commenter of Public Eye. Mr. Sheffield doesn't like the idea of Fran leaving the house, so he sets up a scheme with Gracie to convince Fran into quitting her new job. But they don't have to do that, Fran ruins her audition by herself (by mistaking gene therapy with therapeutic jeans). Meanwhile, Sylvia has problems accepting her soon-to-be stepfather.

Ella decide seguir adelante con un viejo sueño de convertirse en una chica del tiempo, y gracias a Sammy, que es el tío de Bryant Gumbel, Fran consigue una audición para el comentarista editorial del Public Eye. Al Sr. Sheffield no le gusta la idea de Fran de salir de la casa, así que se establece una estrategia con Gracie para convencer a Fran en renunciar a su nuevo trabajo. Pero ellos no tienen que hacer eso, Fran arruina su audición por sí misma (por confundir la terapia génetica con los pantalones vaqueros terapéuticos). Mientras tanto, Sylvia tiene problemas para aceptar a su futuro padrastro.
