In this first episode we get to know the Island Strait cast – from boatmen Stan & Emrys, conservationist Frankie, scientist Mike, mussle producer John, outdoor instructors Jamie & Ali and Glyn the award winning landscape photographer who draws inspiration from the beauty of the Menai Strait.
It is spring and the tourists get the tills ringing and the boatmen smiling. Menai, the Olive Ridley turtle washed up outside Frankie's Sea Zoo, is miraculously making good progress - and landscape photographer Glyn hosts his own exhibition.
Summer arrives and the Island Strait gets busy, as Stan, Glyn and the local boatmen have to share their stretch of water with visiting boats and pleasure yachts. Glyn takes to the water with instructors Jamie and Ali for some dramatic photography, and Frankie and her Sea Zoo team are up for a bit of fun and adventure in the Great Strait Raft Race.
In early autumn, the students arrive and for Scientist Mike it's the start of a new academic year. Violent autumn storms hit hard and power cuts at the Sea Zoo cause Frankie concern. Landscape photographer Glyn escapes to the surrounding snowcapped hills. Stan and Emrys hibernate in their man caves as the life cycle of this unique community continues for another year.
