The High Chaparral

Auf der Ranch High Chaparral irgendwo in den Weiten Arizonas leben die Cannons: Big John, seine zweite Ehefrau Victoria, sein Sohn Billy Blue, sein Bruder Buck und sein Schwager Manolito. Gemeinsam mit den Montoyas, Victorias Familie, kämpfen sie gegen Indianer, mexikanische Banditen oder amerikanischen Desperados, die ihnen ihr Land streitig machen wollen.

The show revolved around "Big" John Cannon, a rancher who lived in the Arizona Territory in the 1870s. He ran the ranch with his brother Buck and son Billy Blue. Blue Boy's mother Annalee was killed in the first episode by an Indian arrow, and John Cannon then married Victoria, the daughter of the powerful neighbouring rancher Don Sebastián Montoya, in what is initially a marriage of convenience. His marriage to Victoria Montoya brought her brother Manolito (Henry Darrow) into the picture, and he also came to live with the family. Cameron Mitchell had been offered the part of Buck following an airline flight to Tucson where he had sat next to the series originator and his wife.

En France, la série a été diffusée à partir du 2 août 1970 sur la deuxième chaîne de l'ORTF, puis rediffusée sur TMC1, et au Québec, à partir du 10 septembre 1971 à la Télévision de Radio-Canada2.Cette série met en scène les aventures d'une famille d'éleveurs de bétails, les Cannon, installés à Tucson dans l'Arizona, durant les années 1870. Implanté en territoire Apaches, Le Grand Chaparral est le nom du ranch dirigé par le chef de famille Big John. À ses côtés, son fils (issu d'un premier mariage), Billy Blue, sa seconde épouse Victoria Montoya (fille de Don Sebastian Montoya), son frère Manolito, Buck le frère de Big John et Sam Butler le contremaitre

La familia Cannon estaba liderada por John, un fornido ex oficial del Ejército de la Unión Estadounidense, ahora colono aventurero decidido a luchar contra la naturaleza y los apaches para mantener su rancho en pie, el "High Chaparral", y su refinada esposa mexicana Victoria, hija de otro poderoso ranchero de la región apodado "El León de Sonora", Don Sebastian Montoya.

Lo spettacolo ruotava attorno a "Big" John Cannon, un allevatore che visse nel territorio dell'Arizona negli anni '70 dell'Ottocento. Gestiva il ranch con suo fratello Buck e il figlio Billy Blue. La madre di Blue Boy, Annalee, è stata uccisa nel primo episodio da una freccia indiana, e John Cannon ha poi sposato Victoria, la figlia del potente allevatore vicino Don Sebastián Montoya, in quello che inizialmente è un matrimonio di convenienza. Il suo matrimonio con Victoria Montoya ha portato in scena suo fratello Manolito (Henry Darrow) e anche lui è venuto a vivere con la famiglia. A Cameron Mitchell era stata offerta la parte di Buck dopo un volo aereo per Tucson, dove si era seduto accanto all'ideatore della serie e a sua moglie.
