Dieser Misserfolg und seine fortschreitende Erkrankung nehmen Alvin mehr und mehr den Lebensmut.
Nach dem Desaster bei Fallin & Fallin tritt Nick in die Kanzlei Walter McNeils ein. Schon bei seinem ersten Fall bereiten ihm seine Chefs und Kollegen jedoch so viele Probleme, dass er seinen neuen Arbeitgeber frustriert verlässt. Alvin hat daraufhin die rettende Idee: Er bietet Nick den Posten Lulus an, die wegen ihres Babys nun nur noch Teilzeit arbeiten will ...
Nick takes a job at the law firm of Walter and McNeil. Lulu gives birth to a baby girl. She decides to work part-time at legal services of Pittsburgh to take care of the baby. Burton thinks his son made a mistake by taking the new job.
Alvin tries to stop the execution of Taliek Allen because of new evidence that Alvin's client suffered brain damage when he was attacked. Alvin along with Nick must try and get a trial stating why he should live and not be executed.
Lulu decides to have full custody of the baby and give the baby her last name not Nick's. Alvin is angry because of what Nick told his client regarding his chances for a clemency hearing.
Nick learns that Burton has stepped down from his firm to be a grandfather to the baby. Nick also leaves his job at the firm of Walter and McNeil.
Nick accepte un poste au sein du cabinet Walter et McNeil, mais Burton pense que son fils commet une erreur. Lulu donne naissance à une petite fille. Pour avoir plus de temps à consacrer à son enfant, elle accepte un emploi à mi-temps aux services juridiques de Pittsburgh. Par ailleurs, elle décide de donner son nom de famille à l'enfant et non celui de Nick. Pendant ce temps, Alvin tente d'empêcher l'exécution de Taliek Allen, son client. Il découvre que la victime de Taliek souffrait d'un grave problème au cerveau au moment de l'agression. Cependant, Nick estime que les chances d'obtenir une grâce sont très minces...
Series Finale. Dopo essere stato messo all'angolo da "Fallin & Fallin", Nick accetta di lavorare nello studio di McNeil. Ma il nuovo impiego, e in particolare il caso di un uomo che non intende pagare un'inezia ed è disposto per questo a mandare a monte un affare da milioni di dollari, sembra non soddisfarlo. Lulu dà alla luce una bambina alla quale decide di dare il suo cognome. Alvin cerca di impedire che Taliek Allen venga giustiziato, ma tutti i suoi tentativi falliscono. L'avvocato deve inoltre affrontare l'aggravarsi progressivo della sua malattia. Prende quindi la decisione definitiva di abbandonare il suo lavoro e fare un lungo viaggio che lo condurrà in Antartide. Anche Burton sembra essere intenzionato a lasciare il suo lavoro per dedicarsi a tempo pieno alla sua nuova nipotina. Alla fine, disgustato, Nick lascia lo studio legale di McNeil e finisce con il dedicarsi a tempo pieno ai Servizi Legali di Pittsburgh.
